    Eightball's Sketchbook (updated May 20)

    update: i'm 20 now!

Hey guys, I’m 18, been digi-painting for about a year and a half now. Still tons of shit to figure out/learn/suck less at…

I used to frequent these boards a while back but I recently graduated high school so I thought it was as good a time as any for a fresh start
and a new sketchbook. I also post under eightball at sijun.

    Here’s some concepts and speedies:

Totally agree, u have a lot of potential. If u continue working ur understanding, u'll turn into a butterfly pretty soon!
U have good sense of value, one thing i could say is maybe work on perspective. Two of ur pieces which have perspective in them seem to be a little shaky.

skMOP: Thanks, glad you like it

    VengePool: Thanks VengePool!

Mussy: Yeah I need to keep working on perspective. I guess too much. I really need sit my ass down and be more precise and accurate when it comes to perspective (plot out correct vps, drawthrough, etc). That's why I'm still a caterpillar . Anyway, thanks for the crit!

Another set of concepts. Inspired by Khang Le and John Park.

    yep, good work. looking solid.
time to play with it; draw things youve seen in your minds eye whilst daydreaming or reading; use whatever reference you need and push yourself hard. youre the director of a movie with infinite budget. what do you do?

It would be good to do some slightly longer paintings. Work on removing the 'looseness' and tighten it up, will help you define a focus too and work out some kinks. Also where your clearly thinking about perspective it looks a lot better, so maybe keep that in mind for every painting you do.
    Keep up the hard work!

Your environments are very well done, I'd love to see more detail go in to those. But you should really work more on your anatomy, most of your characters have a few flaws in them. Keep drawin

PHATandy: Thanks man, yeah I really need to sit my ass down and finish something. As for the perspective I'm trying to check things more, and now that I look at some older paintings I kinda wanna go back and correct the shitty structure. Which goes hand in hand with the sitting my ass down and finishing something ordeal so that's a win-win I think.

Forrest_I: Thanks Forrest! Yeah there's this thing called sucking and I need to do less of it...

Trying my hand at more cinematic compositions.

Metal Fingers: Thanks man! I do photo studies now and then, but they're just quick color studies so I didn't think they were worth posting.

    angriufos: Thanks !

Been playing a lot of Bulletstorm lately so I was inspired by all those destroyed, yet still lush environments:

    Might refine this one further:

    And another "cinematic" speedy:

Hey, you've got a cow boy too! but instead of on a tiny horse, he's just plain tiny XD. Really like your stuff, the pinks and greens on that one cinematic comp really catch my eye. And I definitely think that you should refine that one in the last post

sup eddie, thanks for dropping a comment in my sketchbook. :]
it's a pleasure to see your works on your blog and around here ! I would love to see a much more rendered version of any of your concepts--throw in a few extra hours in one of your paintings and see what happens ! o_o

Hey man, you have some really great stuff going here! As an artist of 16 and a bit myself I think it's safe to say I really admire your work Your environments particularly have a real strength, depth, and often wonder to them! A real skill.
Whilst I don't really feel able to judge, one thing I'd like to suggest is to put some extra time into your characters/anatomy, I feel they just need a bit more "umph" to support their surroundings fully.

But as I say, I don't feel able to judge, all I can really do is hope to be as good as this when I hit 18 I hope I could be of some help. You have a real talent, and a great wod of potential to go with it! I hope to see more from you soon! Keep posting! ^^
I do believe this is my Sketchbook. Take a look, feedback and anything that will help is always appreciated!

GoGoJojo: Thanks, glad you like it. Did some refining, just not that one hehe

    prsnsweeney: Thanks man!

a la bapsi: Aww thanks. And uh...here you go!

Npc Rebellion: Thanks man. Don't ever feel like you shouldn't judge/critique. you don't have to be a director to know a movie sucks, know what I mean? and 2 years is a lot of time to improve. just keep haulin ass!

Refined this one a bit more:

    And some more paintz:

hah and another shit acrylic painting. Kind of had Tom Scholes on the back of my mind. doesn't really compare though:
