Well mate, with all of these great studies you are more than inspiring. Totally beautiful 3d masses you got there. And really beautiful lines and rendering with the traditional medium.
Congratulation for the job. Keep up the good work mate!!!

Really like the quick poses from this post, seems you're getting the hang of drawing 3D forms, keep at it my friend, just visualize where this hard work and dedication is going to take you (lets look back on this post when you reach page 50 or so)
your figures drawings are really nice and those bridgman studies are 100 times better than mine lol
One crit for you, because this update is looking strong. Oh and 4.00 rating by page 6 - nice work! I've noticed that you generally draw the abdomen/core section a little broader than it should be. This leads me to think that when you're measuring your proportions you are going "around" the form and not linking enough points across and through the limbs. Tak a point (for example the iliac crest at the top of the hip) and measure its distance to another two or three points on the other side. That way you triangulate the distance with your eyes and you get a more accurate assessment. Hope that helps. For more information, go to amazon and buy a book on figure drawing by Tony Ryder.
Hope that helps!

Wow the Bridgman stuff is really well studied, fantastic dedication to learning anatomy in this SB!
Interesting drawings bro =) You got lots of advice already.. would maybe just say take your time for your lines really.. it looks like you have picked up some of Finch's stuff from looking at your studies, but really check out how he gestures his stuff in, really watch how he does that part, it should help you to feel out stuff a lot better maybe.. anyway just suggestion.. =) I don't really deserve stars.. I suck so much =( But thank you muchly.. =)
man you work hard i like the figure drawing of the week you seem to be grasping form pretty well
Keep on rockin it.
Hey-ya,
Just got home frum class. Man you are a drawing machine my friend! Geez-zo!
So the life drawings are PD good. I'm sure all the bridgeman schtuff and studies help with those. The correction on the "too big head" guy seems right to my eyes. Your life drawings all look amazing especially that they're short poses. I pretty much suck at at those so I'm impressed. Very cool post.
So glad to hear you're still on with the Jester too. Looking forward to whatever you come up with!
Ciao for now...er...bro-ingham!![]()

You're a hard worker! Admirable peseverence to get those 3D forms correct![]()
Hey man those sketches are strong. Are you working directly with pen? it will give you a great looseness in the lines, which is already noticed. Good anatomy, and very useful schemes. keep doing great.
mmm.. yes, that's the stuff sage! i swear your structure and approach to the figure is becoming more solid. the life drawings are great mang! anyway, thanks for always providing such informative postskeep on!

Hey! Awesome stuff you got going on here I like your sketches. Thanks for stopping by to my SB to share your thoughts, always appreciated/bow
Wow, that's a lot of practise, great bridgeman, I've learnt lots drawing from him - cool shapes, lines n stuff - keep up the good work!
Your studies are a true inspiration for tenacity, you speak it through your hard work. I think I'm going to cut down my sleep and manage my slacking off more regularly now, eh?
Top notch, Sage! You have improved indeed and i see you have began to block-in the values even more, which is good, very good.Keep up the pace
You're quite the busy bee in here, aren't you, great!
You're always inspiring me to work more with the pencil.
Looking good, what else is there to say?!
Hey bub, all these '3D' masses you've been creating and using for construction are really cool, and your life drawings just get better and better. Also, that sinistar inspired piece is awesome, using those construction skills to their fullest , can't wait to see some colors on it!
Keep it up sir!
Lovely updates ... so inspirational to see all your hard work! thanx for sharing.
"It's nothing really, all in a days work for us bicycle repair men"
as others have said, you are so right about training your mind to "feel" its way around an object. I have only just started to grasp this properly and its great to see you are already doing the same thing. Keep on posting more!

Hey Sage solid update, life drawing is looking good and I can see the progress. I'm glad you've had a break through moment it's always so great when something finally clicks and makes sense so you can understand how to draw it. I really like your fanart piece, looking forward to seeing it coloured.![]()
How do you stub your (pla)teau?![]()
Plateauing. Nothing new. Not much progress this week, but still slogging on.
Did more book learning this week, tho. No Bridgman or related studies; though I have been reading James Gurney and a newly acquired Michael Hampton book. We'll see how that goes.
And I'm becoming re-acquainted with a long lost uncle. Uncle Loomis... you remember Uncle Loomis? The guy who sings about Zip-a-Tone Doo Dah?Well, it seems his book "Successful Drawing" is sliced bread, or better... should work on some of that stuff this week.
-------------------------
Chests continue. Brain troubles this week; kept slipping back into 2D. Gotta keep working harder.
Life drawing this week wasn't as good as it should have been. I tried to change my process further and use even less measuring... bad idea.
Looks like I lost the final on the Nandi drawing from Weds ? Here are process shots
Some quick poses from Thursday... had a headache... have got to get better at these.
Was determined to get a good drawing at least Saturday. Liz filled in for the model this week, so we got her two weeks in a row. She's great. Drawing came out O.K... but went slower than usual. Brain has tar all over it.
Finally a little fun from this morning. Wanted to sculpt out one of the 3D forms I've been trying to conceptualize. Using plastilina (which has quite a peculiar smell)...
Hope it helps to conceptualize. Could also light the little thing and do studies from it. Going to model the pelvis, too.

kingkostas - you, my friend, are amazing. I can only hope to follow in your incredible footsteps and stay within a few miles of you. Good luck to you, and thank you so much for visiting my book!

monstertree Honored to have your thoughtsThank you.
Kungfoowiz ah.... you don't suck dude, you rock! You are a disciple of Obi-Chang.. the force is strong with you.I will check Finch again. Thanks man.
prsnsweeney Thank ya hombre; I can only hope to do it as well as you someday.
Sycra
Jephyr Yah mang the jester is going to be pimp!(sorry, gotta talk street now and again). You should try the short poses if you can get them; very challenging. Requires a ton more concentration... but helps a ton, too.
lohesThank you!
Ricardo Robles Ricardo, I'm very flattered you're here. Thank you for your visit! The drawings I did in pen were directly in pen (must do more of them). Can't wait for your next update!
teapo np, dude. Keep on doing your thing, too. You're starting to take off.
julianR Thank you, I still have a long way to go though.
berniebakari No worries! Cheers for the visit!
AlexTooth Heheh.... yeah, shapes and lines and stuff = boring! Well, not boring... but not as cool as your skulls. Thank you.
Kerah Hehe... manage your slacking off. What a concept you have there. Cheers bra.
obier Flattered! Thank you for the visit. Can't wait to see more of your exquisite pencils.
BlackDelphin You can say "rhinoceros" if you wantTanx Cristina.
AustenFM Sinistar piece got pushed to the back burner; but will cook it up soon (hopefully this week). Thank you for your support. It means a lot, and I know you have very little time with school.
shambok Thank you! So far, your thread looks awesome. Gotta find time to finish it this week. Cheers
ThomasM Yeah, man it's all about dem 3D's ... kostas knows a good thing when he sees it.
Marian I just can't believe how fast you're progressing now. You're really tearing it up. The fanart piece is going to get colored up and pimped out to the max.
Thanks all... hope to have a better update next time; sometimes brain is drain... (that was this week). Remember Uncle Loomis for this week! And eat your beans![]()

Pimp> hahaha I think I need a universal translator on that one!I'm looking forward to yer Jester!
Once I'm though with my degree I'm gonna go to every open session I can and get back to life drawing and those short poses......
I know all those folks yer studying and have most of their books too. Funny thing...I hear you actually have to study and draw from them for it to "work" though. Go figure! :shrugs-shoulders:
Even though you had a headache Thusday (I get migraines so I sympathize) your quick poses then still look good@! And Liz looks fantastic You really got a good feel to the light and the proportions seem right.
Digging the sketchbook schtuff and drawing from that sculpt in various lighting will be a really good exercise.
Ciao fer now

Great idea, it should really help you visualise the ribcage until you don't need the model anymore![]()
Haha Sage I think you are being a little hard on yourself. Life drawings proportions look good and I love what you've done with the quick gestures. Very nice mark making. It's also great to see you doing a little sculpture, now you can draw it from all angles. Good stuff.![]()
Rhinoceros!
I thought that plastilina was bigger, but then again i thought it was a huge kneaded eraser.
Heh, I'm looking forward to see the pelvis, i think it will have more details.
Liz turned out great, you went back to more measuring again?
The quick poses seem to have some proportions problems, usually that head-body proportion.
But you said you'll do some more and some more, so looking forward to the post.
did i miss it, or were there suppose to be a surprise coming?
Nice work bro, looks like you cracked out the plasticine too =) Very useful stuff that =) You can't really go wrong with Hampton, he's another of my favourites too =) No crits really, you done a tonne of drawing and learning from it =) Thank you for sharing your work bro =) Keep up the good drawing =)
mmm tasty sculpts - I'm liking the obsession with form and thinking of things as a volume rather than trying to think of flattened proportions. Exactly the right track to go down
