Really like the quick poses from this post, seems you're getting the hang of drawing 3D forms, keep at it my friend, just visualize where this hard work and dedication is going to take you (lets look back on this post when you reach page 50 or so)

One crit for you, because this update is looking strong. Oh and 4.00 rating by page 6 - nice work! I've noticed that you generally draw the abdomen/core section a little broader than it should be. This leads me to think that when you're measuring your proportions you are going "around" the form and not linking enough points across and through the limbs. Tak a point (for example the iliac crest at the top of the hip) and measure its distance to another two or three points on the other side. That way you triangulate the distance with your eyes and you get a more accurate assessment. Hope that helps. For more information, go to amazon and buy a book on figure drawing by Tony Ryder.

Interesting drawings bro =) You got lots of advice already.. would maybe just say take your time for your lines really.. it looks like you have picked up some of Finch's stuff from looking at your studies, but really check out how he gestures his stuff in, really watch how he does that part, it should help you to feel out stuff a lot better maybe.. anyway just suggestion.. =) I don't really deserve stars.. I suck so much =( But thank you muchly.. =)

Just got home frum class. Man you are a drawing machine my friend! Geez-zo!

So the life drawings are PD good. I'm sure all the bridgeman schtuff and studies help with those. The correction on the "too big head" guy seems right to my eyes. Your life drawings all look amazing especially that they're short poses. I pretty much suck at at those so I'm impressed. Very cool post.

So glad to hear you're still on with the Jester too. Looking forward to whatever you come up with!

Hey man those sketches are strong. Are you working directly with pen? it will give you a great looseness in the lines, which is already noticed. Good anatomy, and very useful schemes. keep doing great.

Hey Sage solid update, life drawing is looking good and I can see the progress. I'm glad you've had a break through moment it's always so great when something finally clicks and makes sense so you can understand how to draw it. How do you stub your (pla)teau?

Plateauing. Nothing new. Not much progress this week, but still slogging on.

Did more book learning this week, tho. No Bridgman or related studies; though I have been reading James Gurney and a newly acquired Michael Hampton book. We'll see how that goes.

And I'm becoming re-acquainted with a long lost uncle. Uncle Loomis... you remember Uncle Loomis? The guy who sings about Zip-a-Tone Doo Dah? Well, it seems his book "Successful Drawing" is sliced bread, or better... should work on some of that stuff this week.

Chests continue. Brain troubles this week; kept slipping back into 2D. Gotta keep working harder.




Life drawing this week wasn't as good as it should have been. I tried to change my process further and use even less measuring... bad idea.

Some quick poses from Thursday... had a headache... have got to get better at these.








Was determined to get a good drawing at least Saturday. Liz filled in for the model this week, so we got her two weeks in a row. She's great. Drawing came out O.K... but went slower than usual. Brain has tar all over it.



Finally a little fun from this morning. Wanted to sculpt out one of the 3D forms I've been trying to conceptualize. Using plastilina (which has quite a peculiar smell)...







Hope it helps to conceptualize. Could also light the little thing and do studies from it. Going to model the pelvis, too.

Once I'm though with my degree I'm gonna go to every open session I can and get back to life drawing and those short poses......

I know all those folks yer studying and have most of their books too. Funny thing...I hear you actually have to study and draw from them for it to "work" though. Go figure! :shrugs-shoulders:



Even though you had a headache Thusday (I get migraines so I sympathize) your quick poses then still look good@! And Liz looks fantastic You really got a good feel to the light and the proportions seem right.

Digging the sketchbook schtuff and drawing from that sculpt in various lighting will be a really good exercise.

The quick poses seem to have some proportions problems, usually that head-body proportion.
But you said you'll do some more and some more, so looking forward to the post.
