Great sketchbook, I really like your bold use of colors! The female with the rifle is my favorite on this page. Something about the values and simple shapes make it easy for the eyes and the palette looks great. On the purple and blue city environment, I think the horizon should be higher, it looks like there's a huge wall with clouds painted on it in the background. Your characters sometimes have stiff standing poses, like knees locked on this one and this guy lacking some sense of weight.

I really like this older environment piece too! Keep them coming!

I went again through your last pices and I think that your major problem is that many of them are pretty flat. I´m refering for example to the spacesuite designs from post 206. Basically I can´t really give you a great advice because this is a problem I´m working on for my self right now. This whole thing of understanding form in 3d space. As you saw my latest efforts are all regarding figure drawing from mind exactly because of that reason and I can happily say that I get a better feeling for the space so it of course comes again all back to drawing a lot. I think you should just focus on practicing your comprehnshion of objects in space. If you don´t do yet check out the planes of the face and body from the loomis books. They will probably help you with your costumedesigns because the clothes follow the form of the body. I think for you this comprehenshion of form is way more important than working on your values and colours because you need to understand the form before you can light it well. Hope that helps you to go pro

I like it how you made all those lill details around his helmet-area to give him some kind of focal point there. The idea that you had with the presentation is cool. I think you could maybe push the presentational background a bit father in the back. Furthermore I think your pice could use a bit more contrast, particulary around the helmet-area. Besides that his left food is a bit to short and his right food is off perspective. The technique is a bit muddy and think about that those mechanical details should most of the time have very clean and straight edges. Those writings and prints on his armor are actually pretty cool. Keep it up!

Hey man! Lots of great ideas and shiz, the asian matte painting thing came out pretty cool The one thing that I want to say is that for your environment thumbs, in the initial stages working with very strong confident shapes is key, big lasso shapes. Soften and render edges and whatnot after, getting the big read is most important and strong shapes really help. x

Your environments are incredible! Would love to see maybe some bolder/darker lines on a few of your characters, just to see what they're like? Just a suggestion! Keep up the awesome work.

    Kiwizoom, thank you! much appreciated!

Did a make-over on a char concept from late last year, tried to spiff it up for my portfolio, got some good pointers regarding the legs from the awesome Henrik Sahlström. (Check his stuff out, he´s a great artist: http://henriksahlstrom.wordpress.com/ )

I like the standing poses on both characters but on the female, the arms look a bit too short and hands too small. I think you could pay more attention to hands, there's such a huge difference in your rendering of faces and hands. Many of the hand gestures look a bit stiff and unnatural and the forearm behind the hand holding the spear looks too straight. I like the crossbow and spear designs though! I also like the mood and unusual composition in the train environment!

Laaars!! YAY! ... I'm hopping on the Flask-train again.

    Great stuff man!

I agree with sony....practice some hard surface. You've got too much softness going on in some pieces..the lasso and marque tools are your friends. Gotta keep them edges crisp.

Looking forward to see new updates.

    cheers

    Andi

PS.: Hey, are you going to the London workshop?

Dragon sketches and a quiet office hallway in 1point perspective. Everything is handpainted, and i used ref for the stone texture.
Good exercise, but i didn´t nail the materials as much as i wanted. More studies!
Found this little tutorial thing too, some good points to consider when painting enviros:
