    Talking

Fumble : Thank you dearly friend! I dunno how I solved the personality problem, but my drawings lacked it seriously in the past. I'm glad I hear that often now, means I've improved somewhat

I enjoyed a live stream from n1frit today, it's been really a pleasure seeing him work and listen to him talk (go russian accent!).
If you don't know him, better visit his cool sketchbook.

Enough ads, let's add up something I did during n1frit's live stream and polished a little more after he was done working online -

    Hi Kerah,

Crit for a crit? I think you need to watch out that your grayscales don't get too mid-toney. I get the feeling that everything is shifted towards dark gray, and it could be a bit rebalanced.

Sushy : Thanks! Yeah, she was.

Creusa : Just for you, check the other images

Strato : Should I work on making characters or whatever I draw a mixture of tones? I thought I did it, it doesn't show? Maybe I'm too mid-tone inclined indeed. hmmm

p sage : p sage, thanks. Waiting for you to update

OK, I traveled to Jerusalem. The experience sucked, really. Anyway, here are some sketches and a couple of photographs of my parrot bossing around especially taken for Creusa (she finds the bird sexiiii)-

Hay man, i like your stuff, pen mby more then pencils, cose often you have line drawings with kinda blunt pencil or too scratchy lines, and direction of lines is somewhat strait mostly and of same or similar thickness. And yeah render i like much

p sage: Very excited about the PCG challenge you're going to come up with, let me know what it is asap

Liberty: Took some of your advice into motion. I've been very not careful about smudging parts of my work with my hand as I was sketching other parts - now I'm more careful, as you'll be able to see in this work. Also, been trying to use different breadths of lines and more softer shadows perhaps...

So this is from today. I'll continue working on Loomis's book for the rest of the day, feeling sick so I skipped work-

    Sick? Sick of what? Work?

This pic needs some perspective worked out IMO. Maybe place the horizon line at his knees and throw a quick perspective grid in there. It looks like he's leaning forward a bit too much.

The challenge is Jephyr's idea... check out his thread for his latest practice drawing for the idea. (Psst... it's a jester)

Ztak: It's a pleasure to read those pleasant words friend, thanks
Glad that Loomis still pushes you forward on, I know if I transcend through his whole first book I'm slowly scratching through I'll come out with a much better ability.

Sushy: Hope school is treating you right, glad to see that you're still able to draw even when your most prominent opportunities are early trains
Yeah, the rest of the body is mostly 2B pencil and the head is a combo of 2B and a lot of 4B.

NickyBeats: Hey, thanks for the visit! I appreciate your words

Liberty: Yeah, I work a lot at this boring lab so I come home tired and just want to sketch ideas that I gathered thorough the day. But when I have days off or during weekends, I do longer works because I actually have the time.
BTW, glad you think I'm handsome

blazingdimensions: Thanks for the visit and the kind words, I'll visit your sketchbook friend

sushy: not really. I couldn't work at all when it escalated further on, couldn't concentrate on anything.

p sage: hey, I must have missed a reply to your comment. Sorry about, will keep on working as I always do for the pleasure of divine satisfaction of creating graceful 2D images

Jephyr: Yeah, the challenge isn't going very nicely for me, I did two sketches but then I was sick (and still am but feeling so much better) - don't like the sketches but will post them anyway.

    Kristoff: thanks!

Anyway, my illness topped yesterday when my fever was at 39.2 degrees celsius - I experienced great weakness coupled with an enormous headache and sang quite a few songs that were never composed.

Anyway, feeling so much better today - thanks to antibiotics probably and my immune system (thank you for being with me at all times, why can't you be just a wee bit more efficient?).

Not sure if you guys will like this song, but I really fell in love with this band this week. I don't like israeli music much, and there are probably only 2-3 bands except this one that I like listening to, but give it a try as I did -

I like the way you bring out the form dude! Yeah try using 2H and H on rlly textured paper that might work...before i started using ballpoint pens i used to draw with mechanical pencil and used kneaded eraser...only reason i ditched the method was because it smudges when you carry your sketchbook with you all the time haha but yeah go for it ...use some textured paper it might show you a new way of drawing...'cause on each paper type you kinda draw differently. Show me those cabinet dooooooorss!!!

Your chester reminded me of a character that i did like over 6 years ago ^^ i think i have to make a remake of this guy what do you think?

BlightedArt: Thanks. He's modeled in a fashion after myself.

Ztak: I have pencils that go even harder than 2H, I wonder how rough the paper has to be for me to actually put them to use. That requires marvelous tooth.
That character of yours is really awesome, though it took me a second or two to realize where its mouth actually is! Overall, the technique you apply in creating it is truly a thing I can learn from, maybe I'll study some of your lines and see what I like that can be learned from it
About the remake, I think you should give it a try - 6 years is an awful long time, it'd be a great fun to compare skill levels with such an immense gap.

I've been mostly reading books on various questionable subjects and enjoying them much.

Man I hate rats...unless they're the Disney kind!

I'm diggin' what you've done so far on the Jesters...I know being sick can really zap creative energy though! But I'm finding every study brings me closer to finding it. Your 1st character head is scary cool and the chef is awesome!

I've been listening/watching Haivrit Mesibat while typing...like it best when it hits the "dark" feel at 2:20. (even though I don't understand a word of it : ) BTW that girl is hot!

    Question

Jephyr - Some Israeli girls are hot in that kind of special way, but the majority isn't and that's quite a shame. Or maybe not!
I'm glad you like that song, I knew it's good even if you can't make out the words. it's like listening to rammstein's german and enjoying it without actually knowing what's he singing about (although I generally check out translations for lyrics).
If you want, I'll translate some of the lyrics especially for you - i have plenty of time being sick and all.

Anyway, I won't be posting in a bit, or maybe i will. Illness ensues, though fever is gradually stabilizing. Just posting a photo of me going to see the doc (who gave me two days off of work and prescribed me a medicine with codeine in it).

Your pencil marks are pretty solid, and you're definitely off to a great start so far,
especially with your imaginative work drawings. My advice would be to keep up the
imaginative drawing but also spend equal time daily, if not more, drawing from life
(self portraits, still life, drapery, etc.) and also try to get some master copies,
anatomy study, color studies, etc. in as well. It's overwhelming how much there is to
learn, but just keep it up every day and you'll do awesome. You are definitely on a good
track, and I really like what I see so far. Keep it up : )

The chef is looking nice & clean... like it a lot.

RE: Jesters... how about trying some small (2-3 inch or 7 cm) thumbnails of jesters instead? Use a bigger brush than you're comfortable with, and just go for the mass/deep shadows first, then sculpt. I've been trying that lately and having some good breakthrus.

The advantage there is getting done with an idea quicker; and you can take one of the thumbs, resize it on a bigger canvas, and redraw. Or, if you're traditional, take it to have it enlarged and then lightbox and finish it. Comic book artists work that way.
