Awesome self-portrait. Your blending is so nice and smooth. I think some texture brushes would really finish that off nicely.

And that's a good goal, I'm doing the same. It's so easy to compare oneself to others, but not much good can come out of that [besides a motivation to keep at it]. Good luck!

Wow you have some rendering skills

You seem to handle the skin tones very well (I must learn that too xD)
Only critique I could give is that I am missing the neck of the portrait in post #4

Very nice rendering, really good stuff. Probably would be wise to avoid floating heads, as the neck and sholders can add extra character and interest. Great traditionals!

Haha, you're kinda funny. You also look kind of like that kid from the video game bully. Nevertheless, you're actually pretty good I think. I enjoyed looking through your sketchbook.

And good luck with getting in the Art school. I don't think that you'd have any real trouble getting in though.

Yep, I do look a little (just a little) bit like that guy, though I am not such a cool bad ass like he is.

I don't know if it will be hard or easy. The thing is that some of those "teachers" are close minded. It does strongly depend on who is making the selection procedure.
It could be that they reject a digital artist with some decent skills but accept the hot blonde girl, which is showing crappy traditionals. But if I see something similar like that or get confrontated with such a stupid situation, I will leave and keep learning by myself. I don't want to learn from such people. I don't want to waste time.

Anyways, I have got something that might interest all of you:

I currently began reading it and can't give a rating yet, but it looks like a pearl so far.
You might wanna learn something too and pass it on in your SB, so that everybody can benefit.

I did not expect to see 5 comments here, so thank you all for stopping by.

I do really appreciate any kind word in here. I hope I could help you as well with commenting your books.

syle, my history... well. I drew since I can remember.

Watching jurassic park since the age of 5 nearly every day was my biggest inspiration so far. In elementary school I got myself in trouble with drawing naked women for a class mate. For the last 6 years I attended a technical college, studying engineering. I never liked it and after the first 2 years I wanted to break out of that hell. So I showed my work to some tattoo artists, which said, that I should rather stop to draw than continue, because there is clearly no talent. Beaten down from that, I struggled my way through that school for the next two years, before I decided to quit the whining and take action. That was right before I turned 19. Having no support and a useless surrounding can be a great drive to get better. I just did not want to be a part of the "work for the big money, even if you hate the job" society. I drew every day, every night and was never happy with the results. I did not even know that there are good books, teachers, and universitys. So I was literally teaching myself. And I brought myself in BIG trouble with skipping a HUGE amount of school lessons. In the past 9 months I stumbled over all the great books and artists out there and kept learning from the stuff I discovered. And well, here I am. Still no money, still learning, still no support.
It would be a dream to study, for example at the angel academy of arts in florence. But I can't afford it. I will have to walk on the hard road, unless I have enough money.

It is a hard road, which we all have to go. But I am glad that a community like this exists. Because here we see that we are not alone, and we can help out and support each other.

That's too bad about the Vienna school; however, it's good you've decided to go harder and concentrate more with less distraction. It will be excellent for you. I can't imagine why they turned you away, other than lack of space. You certainly have the chops.
