Really nice sketches. How much time do you usually spend a day painting?

haha hey Reika.. I try to stay away as much as i can from games ; ) i am a geek so what can i do!!!!! The studies are very nice and all! Color is always hard but i think you will get there through more practice and everything! Even though it is color practice still try and make sure you get that depth feeling! It is good when you work on one thing to add all that you need to learn! like ok you need to learn color but read about composition and everything : ) but even so.. they have nice depth in it ; )

Good luck and have fun with deus Ex3 : )

    Camara - Thank you!

Shadow Stalker - Well, I try to spend at least 2 hours each day drawing or painting, but most of the times it's 4 or 5 hours daily. I don't even realize it because time flies when you do what you love :-)

Theo - Oh, well of course you have to be mindful of perspective and depth and all that stuff in environments. What I meant was that my focus wasn't depth in those particular environments, but color.

Mousey - Finally finished the damned game. Back to drawing hahah.

Sooooo I took a little environment studies break because all that information is making my head spin. I will resume doing them daily in a few days. I worked on something fun instead:

Theo - Thanks for reminding me about the contrast, I tend to forget o_o

    Farvus - Thank you kindly!

Warming up with these. I want to do some decent character designs soon enough, and it's always good to start with some fun, loose stuff.

I really like these. The elf on the first image to the right looks really cool. Are you using a square (chalk?) brush on those?

Shadow Stalker - I'm glad you like them! Yes, I used a square-ish brush on them, I find it gives a lot of different and interesting effects, especially in landscape!

Mousey - Hey! Thank you! Yes, I would like to see some updates from you, sir!

A few sketches today. Thinking of coloring the elf girl with the sword. What do you think?

I like these sketches. Your line quality is very clean. I love the elf with the sword, but something's not sitting right with her hips and maybe the right leg (her left)? Could just be me, of course.

Nice lines! The contrast works nice! Color has it s own trick when it comes to contrast. Grayscale has an easyer way of gettin that Contrast! : )

Nice updates missy! I want more! will love to see more characters! : D

Very solid looking work - figures, faces and values look great and on the landscape studies, colors look delicious and brushstrokes effective! On the painting with the dragons and warriors, the dark, snowless mountains on the background kind of pop out and conflict with the figures IMO. I think the picture would have more depth if either the foreground was considerably darker or the mountains in the distance were covered in snow too. I really like the last page of digital sketches, the rendered face looks awesome! Keep up the great work!

Shadow Stalker - You're right about her hips and legs, I will fix them when I decide to take her further And hahahah, I SHALL GIVE YOU MORE, THEN!

Mousey - Aw, how are your kidneys then? Let me know when you get back to drawing

Theo - *gives her more* Thanks for dropping by, darling

smuli - Wow, what great feedback! You're absolutely right about those mountains, and I will hopefully keep that in mind for future environments. I don't feel like returning on it right now, but who knows, maybe I will in the future
Thank you for the lovely words and awesome critique! Your watercolors are really inspiring.

Soooo, studying movie stills. Here's one of more to come:

Thank-you so much for that critique. That's exactly the kind of help I was looking for. It means a lot to me and I assure you it will not go on deaf ears. I almost died laughing at the last caption ("Hmm.. a sword."), especially because it was absolutely true. I think you were right on all counts.

I like the Narnia study. I was actually just looking at Justin Sweet's work on that movie yesterday.

Hey Reika! Thanks for popping by my little sketchbook! I came here to return the favo....

    Holy.....

    The liiiinesss......

This is just beautiful! Incredible sketchbook you have here. Really nice brushwork here on the painted pieces. I've also recently started doing enviro studies, so naturally this sketchbook has inspired me to do more. It is a nice change from the norm of having atmospheric perspective and skylight having such an influence on your subject.

Oh, and to answer that question you posted in my sketchbook, I'm just over a month younger than you!

Anyway, I'll definitely be watching this thread very very closely from now on, I'm very keen on your linework, design and rendering skills (I especially like the combination of tight lines and loose painterly brushwork). Magnificent stuff! Keep up the great work!

Shadow Stalker - You are most welcome and I am glad it helped AND made you laugh.
I LOVE Justin Sweet's work. Did you know that Min Yum(Bumskee) also worked on Narnia?

towy, Aryeh - Thank you! It's from Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian

MacTire - Haha! Oh my, one month younger than me? That's pretty close
I'm happy you like the environment studies, but I have a loooong way to go with those. I'll be watching your thread as well, and nice to have you here! Talk soon!

Sooo, a friend of mine is writing a book and has asked me to start doing some preliminary sketches of her characters. I did a quick one today(And those faces are versions of him, can't decide which look fits him best):

Nice character design! I'm so jealous with how clean it is. If it's not too late, you should show some process shots of the finished one (for those of us drooling at your work).

I think the face in the middle is a little boring. I like the one to the right, but I don't like either hairstyle. It also looks very.... modern?
