ok, looking at couple of the videos I remembered a few more things - the technique we used was very fine crosshatching, and achieving values by building up a lot of layers.
Although he didn't have us do a lot of CROSS hatching, as in lines at 90°, but they were somewhat close directionally. I remember the teacher said to keep directional variation no more then what you would see when tree logs would float down the river. They seldom go much more then at 45° from one another. and in most cases you would start your strokes from 'dark to light' direction.

Start with light layers and then build up. at the begining your pencil strokes would be very light, then as you go on you can get a bit more heavy handed in darker areas.

Actually I've looked probably through 20-30 videos since starting this post, and most seem to cover the very basics, and in a somewhat crude or rough way...

These looks really good, and 60 hours of shading?! By golly do you have patience! It pays off though, your shading looks so smooth on these.

I know how hard it can be to get a good photoraph of a painting...and that ^^^^^ pic looks pretty good to me! You did a good job with the painting too...from the amount of visible canvas (which I like to see) it looks like you have a nice light touch...and you handled the various surfaces well.

Otherwise it's good to see your recent eye and life studies!

Just for the record for the few nice people who were following my sketchbook, I left this place because there are few regulars on this sites' forums that systematically follow me around, harrass and call me very nasty names.. things like c*** and wh0re and similar crap.... and moderators think that kind of behavior is justified because they are irritated due to some lame disagreement, and expect you to just sit and take it.

There's no disagreement that warrants that level of harassment and nastiness. It's a pretty sad state of affairs, and not the kind of place where I want to hang out.

You're welcome to lock the thread, or ban me or whatever you'd like. I'm out of the cesspool.
