Hello all, I have not been here in quite some time... I believe I had started a sketchbook somewhere, but I have definitely lost track of it (it's been a few years). This is a big endeavor for me, because although I nurtured my talents at a very young age, after I graduated high school I did not actively pursue my talents. Instead for almost 6 years I worked in veterinary/laboratory animal husbandry. I lost my job at the lab about two weeks ago, and I wasn't left with much but my experience in those fields, which I now feel totally unsuited for.
So, I took what I had pretty much abandoned during that period, and I'm picking up the pieces. I am going to school this fall to major in graphic design and printing press, but I will be studying illustration as well. I finally feel whole again, but I've got a long way to be where I want to be. I still love animals as they are a frequent subject matter of mine, and I own about a dozen boas and pythons that I'm itching to draw.
I have some "doodles". I'm calling them doodles although they are fully colored and largely unchangeable, but back around 2005 or so, this is what I was calling finished work. It's not. They look nice and I can sell them pretty cheap but they don't encompass all the facets of art that I haven't quite grasped.
I'm practicing more still life and anatomy, and I'm referencing photos more, and those will be posted as well. I hope to post here often and hear your opinions and much needed advice.
The wolf was the first thing I drew from memory using what colored pencils I had on hand. Some people draw cubes and spheres or other shapes when they are bored or talking on the phone. I've been drawing these wolves in the exact same way as my go-to boredom doodle.
Second is the boa constrictor... This was entirely an experiment, and not meant to be anything more. There are things I like and don't like about it but I will keep it for further reference because I will attempt it again. I attached the photo for reference. The head was what I was really going for. Peruvian red tails are big boas and they have a really blocky, impressive head and I was really trying for that. I own the animal in the photo as well.
See you guys tomorrow, any suggestions on what you want to see?
*EDIT* Looks like I found my old sketchbook in my signature, there. I will be using this one from this point on but will keep it there for posterity's sake!
