Tofa: thanks!
Nickillus: Thanks! I noticed too that my traditional work has helped me digitally.
kasblue: I'm no master. I've a looooot to learn. As for the vertical strokes, they are a short hand to lay down an even value across an area usually of shadow. Bill cone said to lose detail in the shadow and keep detail in the edges.

Hey Jonathan just wanted to say how much I've enjoyed looking through your sketchbook. You have such a good range of style, mediums and subjects it's difficult to choose a favourite. I do really admire your rending skills, I'm only just starting to try to render and I find it quite hard at the moment. I read that you brought Henry Yan's book, i'm a fan of his to and I was lucky enough to attend a workshop of his a few months ago, so if you have any questions about the book I might be able to help, although I'm only a beginner.![]()
Marian Rowling: Thanks for the kind wordsI'm glad you enjoyed Henry's book too and jealous you got to go to a lecture of his >_<. I can see his influence in your own figure drawings. Keep it up!

Here's some ideas for my final for my illustration class. The final will be a forest featuring this tree (tentatively) painted in acrylic.

Looking at your pencil drawings, it reminds me how powerful keeping details out of your shadows can be. You can some beautiful negative shapes and forms in those trees. I think I'd be tentative trying to paint them too!

I have no figure drawing class this semester but I've been doing muuuuuuch more figure drawing then i had been doing when i did have figure drawing classes. I think I've been doing something like 15 hours of this a week.... funny how that is.

Finally moving on to color. these are very rough and abstract. Just laying down colors hoping something I like happens... probably not he best way to work

I had planed on this painting to be a semi refined color pass at my final acrylic illustration but I kind of zone out when I get into rendering mode. It turned out to be much more detailed then I had planned but i solved many problems that I'm not sure I could have figured out with Acrylic.

Man it's turning really cool ! Can't wait to see your final painting !![]()
