Hey man, nice work. You have a nice sense of value going on and your overall sense for colors is getting stronger. You might want to bring out some harder brushes and bring out those sharp accents here and there, though. Look up the old masters like Sargent, Velasquez (especially the later Velasquez was known for his incredibly broad vision - both tonally and in how he only left a few sharp accents in his carefully wrought out softnesss - to bring focus where it was essential), Rembrandt and Repin.

I think that getting back to basics a little, will help you in further solidifying your digital work. Spend some more time on your structure drawings and learn how to specify your line work, using straight lines. Opting for stright lines will give your works more specificity, and specificity brings along structure and solidity of form. It'll do you wonders!

it's too good to exist! delete it please. thanks.

lol on a level though the studies are amazing! keep going, I'm mainly liking the many hand studies and grayscale bird sketches!

lionheartGFX: Aha trying not too man, I might have some more freetime coming up, which means more time to update! ^_^ But yeah gotta work on those fundamentals aha...been rocking the pencils lately gotta get around to scanning them. Lot's of fun

Istmin52: Oh yeah they are kinda metal-y, I was really just trying to push the values in them. They are a lot more neutral in the refs. Uhm yeah I agree, about the photos, I mean I set up everything myself on the edge of my desk and take the pictures. It's quite the balancing act...what has it taught me more than anything else. I need a bigger desk

Mepainter: Oh thank you very much! You're too kind ^_^

kevin_: Haha secret updates my friend XD Thanks for the compliments it's super cool to know you're watching...I mean you're a ton better than me, it's a neat feeling ^_^

AndreasM: Thanks a ton man! I'm not really sure what to write back but, I'm taking it all into consideration. So yeah thanks a lot

Anthonycarey: They probably aren't but shhh I'm not good at faces XD It's a secret to everybody!

luthertaylor: Ahhh thanks a ton man! You like the ones with a purpose behind them ^_^ XD

Hey guys or anyone that sees this! I'm back sort of. Here's some stuff I've been working on over the past couple weeks. Schools ending so guess whose hopefully gonna have more time to draw! ^_^

WICKED jealous of your hands mate. I think you can push the values and the contrast in those studies more dude! YEAH!! GO DARK! Where do you get the hands to study from? That seems like a lot more than self-supplied. ^_^
Also I haven't seen you in a while for real. Glad you will be around more!

Some great stuff! Something I would suggest is drawing more diverse people--in age, race, weight, stuff like this. Excited to see more in the future!

The digital one was a little over an hour so at least I'm getting quicker. I probably should have finished it but I had other studies to do. Anyway on to the more important things, I started this sketchbook to help motivate myself...and while it has do to my lovely scanner, if you've read through my comments you know it hates me, a lot of the traditional studies I do don't get posted...which is unfortunate. I'd really like to update this daily, to me daily updates means more crits which translates to more improvement. Anyway what I'm trying to say is I'm going to try and do a lot more digital stuff...so I can get better at that as well as post more here. So yeah, I've got 4 months before school starts again and I'm going to try my best to get as good as I can before I loose a lot of this studying time. Anyway if you read this good for you, it seems like it's going to be really long...I never have any idea how long my posts are going to be...but I digress, on to the art!
Your attention to detail is beautiful

I'm really liking those helmets... It's a neat concept + well executed to boot! I don't have too many suggestions- just, keep working at it. Keep doing some of those still lifes (apples for the win) and practicing your drawing. You'll get to where you wanna be!

    impressive progress, keep it up!
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. Very nice work on those materials! Love the contrast between the hard surfaces and the hair. Rim light is sexy.

Take care of your edges when doing still life, even if that's not the main focus of the exercise - it's a good thing to practice whenever possible!

I wish you a (very belated!) successful 2013!
