no love for the utah ceew...![]()
Well, I live in Salt Lake...
I occassionally make it to King's Cottage for their figure study sessions.

I just post this because it is very difficult for somebody like me, who doesn't really participate in the local art scene (is there a local art scene in SLC? I suspect not), to find good places that host these.. and I do think that figure stdies are important.
Maybe I'll meet some of you there..
Level 7 Gladiator: Samnite
i m all over the place right now, but ogden is my home during the winter (snowboarding)... might be out there in the summer for a bit though.
Nice another Ogdonian...
I dont know much about the "Art scene" in Utah..
Level 7 Gladiator: Samnite
hey, i'm in ogden for the next few of weeks and i need to know where a good art supply store is. i went to ogden blue print. that place is 'ok' but they don't sell quality oil paint. if you know any decent art stores in the area, let me know.
Im in Salt Lake city. Downtownish.
Work winters at Solitude ski resort as a lift operator.
There are a few of us that lurk around here living in Ut...
There is actually an art secne though it is sometimes hard to find and tends to be more in a classical bent....
Cheers
Don
Edit: Shh, secrets.
Love to know if anything gets set up, would be cool.
As for an art scene in Utah, its existant but not that existant. A lot of it happens in southern Utah as well (what with Zions national park and all).

it does? I'm in st. george. what goes on in zions?
Edit: Shh!
Zion's National Park is really amazing for landscapes etc.
Anyways man, you should check out this site
http://www.artistsofutah.org/
and check out the 15 bytes tab at the top, its an e-zine but they print it out for some galleries I think.

what's your grandpa's name? There might be a chance that I've heard of him.
Edit: Ha, that's funny, my uncle, Lyman Whitaker, is on that artistsofutah website.![]()
Sweet holy crap! Utah has other artists. I thought I was in some sort of creative desert here. Well now this is a pleasent surprise.
So many questions....
How are you all doing?
What type of art do you do?
How do you make a living in this state?
Please tell me you don't paint barnes all day...if you've been to the state fair you should know what I mean about that.![]()

I paint barns all day mostly, sometimes shacks....
Ed ... it?

LOL sorry for the barnyard crack. You live here so I assume you know the culture. Some people here think that unless your painting landscapes (Barns) or religous work your not doing art.
While I'm sure some people enjoy that, I like to draw things that never existed and never will. It makes me happy.
Just out of curiosity which school are you going too?

Heh, paint, draw etc whatever you feel like. I'll do whatever teaches me something or makes me happy.
Right now I'm taking it semi-easy at SLCC (Salt Lake Community College).
No really, anyone in Utah these days or did you all leave me behind for greener pastures?
(Oh man, over two years have passed in this thread!?)
Greener than Utah!?! Madness, there is nothing greener than Utah's endless hills of brown scrub grass. Of course I don't travel much and when I do it's to Arizona.
I subscribed to this thread two years ago and never thought I'd see it again. Odd.

Ha, no kidding - ancient thread at this point.
Ok, plan of action for getting Don Seegmiller to invite us over for cheese and art discussions? Hehe!
Anyways, I'm in South Jordan; 20minutes south of SLC - yourself?
Sunset about 30 minutes north of SLC.
And anything that involves cheese. I'm there. mmmmm.. delicious cheese.
I've been working to long today, I'm starting to get silly.

Not too bad, let's get some more people and take over Utah, I mean sketch/paint or something.
Somehow I doubt Don is ever around, that post above is probably his last post haha.
I seem to recall Emily G is a Utahn perhaps? William Whittaker, I'm sure he'd love to have us drop in...![]()

Yo.
Utahn signing in. :b I live in Ogden, about 20 minutes away from Weber State Uni if you're familiar with its location.![]()
It's so fetching cold here.
I might as well introduce myself too, seeing as I have only sparsely posted here. My name is Becky, 20 years old, just taking my first art classes at uni (ive only taken 1 art class previous). Self taught, want to get into gaming, blah blah blah, whatever.![]()

Right, we should do something then - the lot of us. Shame it's winter.
You got that right. Winter sucks. :b

Yeah, pffft - I didn't sign up for this. Let's start an anti-winter petition!
Say, you guys been up to the UMFA at the U lately? There's a faculty show going on right now, you can skip that though ... (hehe!) - The do have some really nice stuff on display elsewhere however; a Sargent, a sweet study of Gerome's, some nice J.T. Harwoods - spied a Rubens too. Ok, those are just for name droppings, other nice works too.
I moved out to Utah a little while ago, I'm actually moving into an apartment in Bountiful in the next couple of days. Is anyone else going to the life drawing classes at Kings Gallery over on 2233 s. 700 e. in Salt Lake? I've been thinking about attending the Tuesday one if I can work out my work schedule, just wondering if the classes are set up well.
:/ Nope. I'm in the Ogden area. Life drawing classes frighten me. So much teh nekkid.![]()
I'm going to WSU. Taking my first painting class soon. Le gasp, I'm excited!![]()

I have a friend who lives in Ogden, and I actually lived there for about 6 months five years ago.
You get used to the nekkid folks pretty darn quickly in life drawing, it's not a big deal after your first class.
I looked at WSU but I can go to the University of Utah for almost the same so I'm applying to finish up my degree there...
