10th Annual Drawing Jam Saturday, December 5, 2009 Gage Academy of Art 1501 10th Ave E. Seattle, WA 98102
Speaking of Gage, there's a student show going on there from October 10th to November 10th. Check it out! I have a self portrait on display in the show.
The Drawing Jam sounds fun!
I'm definitely going to that after reading all the articles about it last year. Thanks for the info Peter!
Where do you all go to life drawing at? As far as I can tell, here are the options..
-Gage, looks like a good session, going to check it out tomorrow. They have 6 sessions a week it looks like
-Art Not, Sat morning and Monday night. Was a good session 5 years ago, going to check it out tomorrow as well. Both of these are reasonably priced.
-Daniel Smith, Thurs night. 15 bucks for 2 hours? :|
-Capitol Hill Drawing Session. Weds night. 7 bucks. Haven't checked it out yet, but want to in the very near future..
Any other ones that you guys know about or attend?

Another gem is Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School meeting every 3rd Monday of the month down in Belltown. Haven't been for a while, but plan on getting back to that for some good time burlesque drawing.
I'll be hitting Art Not either on Sat or Mon very soon.
Best,
D

Moai- Saw your self portrait. Super Good. Do you take classes? Belong to the Atelier? Really liked the portrait, the only thing I would say is that the goatee should have been styled like the rest of the hair. It looked so different that it was noticably odd. Other then that it kicked a ton of ass!

Thanks, jetpack! Cool to see that another CAer has seen it.Others have commented about the goatee as well; it definitely is a flaw.
I'm just takin' classes at Gage for now. Portrait painting and figure painting. How about you?
I usually just go to the free sessions at school (AiS). I've been to one up on Capitol Hill which was in some Gypsy clothing store. I liked the setting and mood there quite a bit, it's just too far away to go to now. I've also been to the Art Not Saturday sessions a few times. Those sessions were pretty chill and at a good price, but I'm not a morning person....
How about a meeting next Sat. at the Vermillion? I'm dying for some artist contact and chat time. Anyone?

The 14th? Sounds good to me but I'll have to figure out what time I'm available.
Ahhh, I totally want to come too, but I don't live in downtown Seattle no mo'. I could see what I'm doing that day and take a bus down there if we don't meet too late in the evening.
I know it's late notice, but I can make it around 6PM...
I'll monitor the thread so I can make sure I'm not the only one showing up.
Just saw this note, anyone show up Dave? I was out and about all day on Saturday with other obligations. Wish I could have been there, it's been a while.
No Mike, I didn't end up going I hadn't heard back from anyone soon enough. We still really do need to get together.
...and.. Happy Thanksgiving to all my local artist peeps!!

Happy turkey day to everyone!
I'd like to encourage all of you to participate in the Art Order challenge that Jon Schindehette is running. For those of you that don't know Jon, he's the Sr. Art Director on D&D. If you'd like exposure and want to get into illustration this is a great opportunity to have your work seen by allot of people.

That looks pretty interesting, Mike. I'm not sure what those art tests are like since I'm still in school, but it's nice to see those kinds of things now just so I can get a sense of what it's going to be like in the near future (although they're probably all random like that, lol). Thanks for posting that and good luck with the Bungie gig!
Howdy guys n gals-
First off, GOOD LUCK on your Bungie test Mike.
I haven't checked this forum in many many moons.
Schooling has pretty much ruled my life for the last year or so, which is totally cool by me. Although I have not been doing much drawing or painting I have been focusing on web and graphic design skills. Its creative and scratches the itch.
I will try and check in with the CA heads more often.
Wishing all you guys the best...

Jamesy: This was a really weird art test. Thanks for the well wishes!
Sean: Sup homeslice?Long time no speak, but then again I haven't been active with the community for several months either. I've been burnt out more than anything and had to take a part time job at Best Buy to help pay the bills. So the good news is that everyone's well wishes paid off and I'm officially a finalist for the position and I'm being called in to interview.
Give a ninja a call some time k?

Who's going to the drawing jam saturday? Anyone want to meet up during or after?
I know I plan to be there...
good luck Mike. I will be at the drawing Jam
I'm so glad I popped in here, that drawing jam at Gage sounds like fun! There's another event I need to go to later in the day, but I'll try and catch the first half for sure.
Good luck with the interview Mike! Some really sweet drawings there.
Thanks guys! I wont be able to make the drawing jam. I'm working Saturday and Sunday at my part time job. Have fun!
Ill be there !![]()
So I'm officially working on the Microsoft side of Halo Reach for the next 3 month. I'll be spending some time over at the Bungie offices with material that I can't take off site. Let's just say that I have 100+ pages of illustration to do by end of Feb. That Fat Kid also works in the same offices so that was a pleasant surprise. I'll be seeing you soon Daniel.![]()
OMG, that's so cool Mike! I had been looking at your piece from the test and was wondering, "Shit, if this isn't good enough, then what the fuck are they expecting!?"
That's awesome. Best of luck to you on that!
-Scott
I saw the post while I was on lunch at work (I work at Airtight games right now...but just as a tester). I showed that to a couple of the environment artists who sit next to me and the general consensus was, "Jesus, if that isn't good enough for bungie then i don't even want to meet the sort of people they hire. They'd have to be absolute monsters"
