    Ryze statuette

    Hi,

So this is my first attempt at sculpting something in "real", I'm used to do some digital sculpting in Zbrush but never tried clay before.
For this first test i used Chavant clay, thinking I will do a cast after ... but now I see how complex it is so I am not completely sure i will do it ^^ (next time I will probaly try Super Sculpey)

This is of course not finished but here is the work in progress.

This statuette is based on a video game character, Ryze from league of Legend.

    Hope you like it.

I tried to simuate the future painting with photoshop, It makes me realize that I have to do again the job on the face, and on the right leg on which the cloth seems no natural at all.

    Hi,

I have completely reworked the face and add some details. I hope this is better! Tell me please

However I think it will be enough for this first try in the sculpture world, I need to move on a new project now I think casting with such a complexe part will be too much for this first time.

Looks pretty good. How have you found the transition to clay from digital?

    Thanks Alaneye.

I found the transition relatively easy in fact; This is globally the same kind of work, except that in digital world we are always bothered with the topology of the mesh, which create big technical issues and less time for artistic work. So for me clay sculpting was a real gain of liberty!

However what I found hard in real sculpture is
1/ of course the lack of Ctrl Z...
2/ the big difficulty to have at the end a clear and nice finish. However on pictures flaws and defects are enhanced, we probably all know that.
3/ the difficulty to add material for small details : what I mean is that it's so easy in Zbrush to create veins on an arm, or to inflat a cheek which seems too skinny; Here it's pretty hard to add clay on a small scale while keeping the surface smooth.

Globally I think that a real clay/sculpey sculptor should try digital sculpting, and that a digital sculptor has to try the opposite. There is a lot of thing to learn on each side

Thats very good, for a first try it blows my first sculp away. The detail on the face i like a lot. Did you read any books or watch any dvd to help you understand how to add details like wrinkles in the face etc?

Thanks Crowv. I learned a lot in the series of DVD from John Brown on Gnomon Workshop (http://www.thegnomonworkshop.com).
This book is also particularly stunning : Pop sculpture (http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/082...SIN=0823095223)
