    Talking Appy's Sketchbook

Edited: Since time did what time do, I am now a graduate of FIEA and a working "professional" artist and small business owner and freelancer. I am also game artist (and humble designer) at heart or at least try to be. My more recent work is on the last page. Thanks for all the support and kind works everyone has given and said since I began this sketchbook. I look forward to learning from you all and hearing what you have to say.

Please leave C&C. I want to get better and could use any help you could offer.

    Thanks!

    (Old)
Hey everyone. I am a grad student at FIEA (Florida Interactive Entertainment Academy at UCF). I came in focusing on 2D with the intent on getting better at everything 3D.

As I am new to this forum, I don't really expect anyone to give me the time of day, but if anyone feels compelled to take a look and critique my stuff, I would appreciate it.

This batch here is a pretty wide and random assortment of pieces I've worked on since my time here at school. A lot of these are landscapes, something that I have kind of gotten used to drawing for a while, I do however want to start doing more character stuff, as I am super weak at it. ugh The human form is soooo confusing.

So I will probably start this post out with some of my more refined stuff, and work my way down to more of a sketch book, and try to update rapidly.

Actually my friends have started a "painting a day" facebook group that is forcing us to go back to fundamentals. So hopefully I can keep this sketchbook updated on a pretty regular basis.

    Thanks everyone.

Nothing included as of yet is really NSFW but in the future some sketches might be added that border on it nudity wise.

    Red face Next submission Set

Some of these are a little older, so you will probably be able to see (or at least I hope for my own sake) a decay in abilities

More random stuff for random people.

Cow Speeds n' Sketches n' Bagels

Okie Dokie, few more speeds and sketches and... bagels too obviously ^^

I dont want to spam too many images in one post? Am I doing it wrong? Should I worry about that?

Well, almost done so I wont bug you much more.... for now..........

And a flaming donkey for no reason too!

(EDIT); There is a speed paint of the pandabot mech on youtube here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3JLNMN5Z3Ow - it is my first one though so sorry for not having any weird music or sweet star wars wipe transitions.

    Cow Characters without character??

These were done for a capstone project, but I'm not super happy with the way these character turned out, just too flat and unpolished.

Bishop: Thanks a lot man, I through in the horse at the last second of hte speed, and as with most things a person does without thinking at the last minute, it became the best part

There are a random assortment of character based drawings and sketches.

    Talking Update for the day.

NickyBeats: Thanks man, appreciate the support, come back anytime! Look forward to seeing ya around

The gestures are taking from a sample of my Posemaniacs from the past couple days, the characters were then designed around a few poses for the past few hours.

Going to try to teach myself not to rely on such heavy contrast to do the shading in the future, i do love thick dark outlines though... i dream about them...

hey great set of character designs there! thats a cool idea, using your recent posemaniacs to flesh out some poses for your characters. i may have to borrow that idea from you!

    Gesture bash

Cuz I haven't had time to do much other than gestures for the past few days as I prepare portfolio pieces for Evolve CG in Winterpark Orlando.

    Anyone else attending?

NickyBeats: Hey man thanks for coming back! Yeah getting poses out of gestures has been working awesomely I really reccomend it, unfortunately it doesnt simulate weight too well which is too bad. Nothing beats real life.

jbrown67: thanks man i'll do my best, sanity permitting

    Traditional Works

A lot of my old traditional life drawing and sketchbook photos.

Didn't have more than 40 minutes per study, so sorry for the lack of refined charcoal studies.

Some of the final images are from a long time ago from forgotten sketchbooks.

    Hope you enjoy~

Those traditional figure studies you did are phenomenal! I also very much like the composition in the environmental thumbnails!!!!

    scribbles

A few updates from the past couple days, Nothing great, but that's why I'm doing this sketchbook

SHAMBOK: Thanks! I love doing traditional stuff, but I don't know where they hold life drawing classes anywhere around here. Need to get back into doing it. As for the thumbnails- thank you! I could do them all day, but it feels like I have to go in without any ideas in my head, and just try and pull out different shapes after I cut apart the canvas for a while. Can't wait to be able to draw something that I plan out first

    industrial disgust

some silly industrial design for some wonky vehicles. not used to drawing these, never been a car person but I thought forcing some perspectives on curvy shapes would start refining my ability to see objects in 3d space which is something I obvriousree have a hard time with right now
