Hey, I'm really, really digging your environments. It's amazing how rapidly you're improving, with seemingly a new 'best yet' piece on each page. I love the way you're experimenting with composition using abstract thumbnails but keep everything under control as you progress the picture. If you've got the time I'd really appreciate any advice you can give on studying and developing environments.

Kvetch: Thank you for your compliments! I'm not worthy I'll stop by and see if I can be of any help!

    ----

Working on the eow again. This one is pretty bad composition and perspective wise but I kinda like the colours. They are not what I was going after though. I'll try playing around with this idea for a while longer, still got few days left.

Also some crappy photos of some random sketches from my molesknie. Sorry they're taken with a sucky camera - I don't have a scanner and just wanted to post them.

Pff. You call that advice?! Anyway, these enviro thumbs are great, liking the magazine heads too. I think the physical arrangement of the bell towers is not so pleasing in your eow piece, maybe the way they're offset and rotated relative to each other could seem a bit strange/serve no purpose. This is badass: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...2&d=1360092076

Those bus sketches are bangin' ! How long do you usually ride on the bus ? Plus how do you deal with the constant movement of the bus which affects line quality ? When I tried drawing on the bus all my lines were shaky and unconfident. Not much else to say other than I love your enviros and the EOW piece. Keep rockin' !

    Othrandir: Thank you! I wish I knew what I'm doing x.x;

Kvetch: Haha man. I'll try to give some real advice, I just couldn't think of anything. Some of the thumbs you did had killer compositions, a lot more dynamic than mine. Thanks for the crit on the eow piece! I agree it looks weird. I wanted to make the bells swinging around and in the end didn't really spend enough time on the composition and stuff. I wasn't going to finish it as it was pretty bad but I liked the colours so it ended up as it is.

    kikindaface: Thank you! Will do

    Jordan_: Thanks! Will do!

ozark: Thanks! The amounts of time I spend riding the bus vary but maybe around 20-30 minutes. Most of those are done riding the train though - it says on top of the page where they're done but the texts might be a bit hard to read.

    ----

More messing around with EoW. I don't like where this is going though, too space-y approach and I don't know how to deal with everything. This weeks figures turned out shit but I guess I learned a few things, trying not to make the same mistakes next week.

    The enviros are superb!
Loving the clean edges and cinematic look.
The values are simple but sopisticated and you really get a sense of scale.
The portrait sketches and gestures are solid but one some of the 3/4 views
the anatomy is a little asymmetrical.
    Awesome sketchbook! especially the enviros

Really great work here man. Don't worry about thinking you're not working enough. Every artist whose dedicated to their work thinks that. I think that stuff all the time. It's just the simulation of reality called your mind haha.

Anyways man, love the enviro studies and great handling of color and values. You're doing great!

    Cheers mate

Xelar: Thank you very much! If you mean the ones drawn while in bus or whatnot it might be because of the movements of the vechile (excuses!), otherwise I'm just bad (the truth) Thank you!

Mr.Pryminista: Thank you! Haha yeah. Just have to fill the reality with more practice I guess!

RaphaelLuebke: Thanks man! Glad to see you back Was waiting for your updates.

    ----

Some stuff I haven't uploaded yet. I think it's time to start actually practicing those characters and full blown illustrations, I'm so bad at them and I'm tired of feeling like shit when I step out of my very-small-comfort-zone. So, hopefully I can make this work! The first one is a small sneak peek at something bigger I'm hoping to finish. We'll see!

edit: oh man I gotta fix her eyes, among other things

Shitty sp. I feel like I can kinda hit the colours when drawing from life (except for really saturated images) but the proportions elude me. Gah I need more time to draw.

    Dude, this is great: http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...9&d=1360449691
I think some of the simplicity is lost in the worked up version and it suffers a little in comparison maybe, but it's still awesome. Nice sps too.
