This is still in it's sketchy stage, but which color study here feels more 'right' to you guys. Neither of them is also an option. Thanks!

I prefer the second colour choices in your first image.It may also be a matter of pushing a few values.

Update on this guy.
The last illustrations look really good! the last one is specially cool.. maybe you could saturate the rays with an overexpose layer? keep showing your stuff!
Another update
Almost done with this drawing for a painting project. Based off the 'Wheel of Time' books. The dude in the center is a sightless creature called a myrddraal, w of beast-men called trollocs. The background will be tavern-like village buildings on fire and what not.
Still tweaking the scale of each individual trolloc. Will be much easier with some background elements and values worked in.
Worked in some rough values. A little too dark on some of the trolloc faces. Mainly just making sure the center figure will hold the focal point once everything is filled in around him.
