The Last Two Standing:
This wonderful community of talented creators has come a long way since its humble beginnings. The contest that started them all has finally returned, and this time, we are all going to need a friend.
From the moss covered ruins of the mighty Thunderdome, a talented artist from Rockstar Games rose to the call and defeated all comers in a worldwide ConceptArt.Org contest billed as "The Last Man Standing". “There would only be one”, and it was not, as advertised. Shelly Wan, she of the virtuoso Wacom, won it all, proving herself as a humble and inspirational influence to artists across the international community. The contest evolved on that day and so did this site.
Time passed before a new challenge arose, with a call to talented artists from every country of the world. The ConceptArt.Org’s Beauty and Nightmares Contest begins.
You will find the early announcement below, allowing you to find your partner, begin your brainstorms, win, and claim a share of fame or infamy…as well as some fantastic loot.
Subject Matter: BEAUTY AND NIGHTMARES- A contest of collaboration, talent and skill.
Important Dates: April 8 2008 Start! - Final Deadline Friday May 6, 2011 at 11:59 PM
-Open to any and all interpretations (except Pron) and media (Yes traditional is great too).
-Final must be Full Color
Final Format: 18x24 or 22x28 proportionally (landscape or portrait format dimensions)
Critique: You may request critique from non-participating members of the community. This contest is as much about growth and collaboration with others as it is a battle royal of creative skill.
Judging: Entries will be judged in the following weighted categories.
a. Idea and Imagination Impact - Is it a great idea, and does it communicate to others as you intended? Was it an idea not worth rendering out? 1-15 points are what the judges will score to find out.
b. Technical Achievement– perspective, media handling, structure/rendering: 1-10 points here too.
c. Emotional- Mood, lighting, composition, color, expression, visual emotional feel: 1 – 10 points. Emotion and mood are two major components in art. The judges will be looking at this.
d. Style/Design : 1-15 points - There are two of you working on your images and points are given for those who collaborate in a cohesive and unified visual manner. Does it look like you should have looked at one another’s images before you started? The judges will know. Collaborate, plan together, create together, and pay attention to design and style for better results. Design is can be based in 2d composition, and in also in the objects/characters/architecture or anything else that is created (industrial design/costume design/vehicle design or anything else you design).
-Judges: The outside judging panel includes creative professionals from the biggest projects and most esteemed careers in the field.
-Prizes TBA
-Collaboration Assignment: Contestants will join forces to create two images as an imaginative Diptych. Panel 1 is Beauty. Panel 2 is Nightmares. Your two panels must relate and be designed to go together. If possible, they should look like they were done by the same artist when done.
-Rounds-Two - The all out First Round and then the creative tag team championship.
Who will be the ConceptArt.Org Doubles Champs? The Tag Team Champions? hmmm...We will surely come up with a better title than that. This is going to be a great show.
