    Junk

Todays stuff, i'm about done with two Oil Still lifes i started. Doing some digital tonight and then tomorrow MORE DIGITAL VALUE STUDIES. Grinding that art xp out. I kind of botched up the small 3 colored pot in the oil. For traditional getting the under drawing on point seems to be very important.

Not a lot of people have been able to figure out where its from since i zoomed in on just the menu xD

Two pages of 1 minute Gestures (You really don't want to see the rest). One page of poses from imagination.... other pages are perspective/shadow studies, last one is a digital photo study. I get the feeling lately i've been just going through studies and copying images. Need to work on proper construction, landscaping and vehichles, been avoiding that.

    Hey Ixallus!
Thanks for stopping by my sketchbook.
I think you noticed me because we have both an japanese sketchbook icon

Your stuff is looking good but in my opinion it looks like you're rushing too much. Take your time for drawings and they will be a lot better. Especially focus on the seeing process more so you get the basic proportions down, before you start rendering the stuff out.

But besides for that, keep going. Looks fine!

You are like a true lotus above the freshly sprinkled cactus,
your drawings like jewels amongst mutated ape-wolf kennels.
Raising up, straight to the top, traditionally all the way, you
are a king ace, a sparrow shaped belt buckle, under the pillow.
All the pieces are good and showing improvement and hard
diligence, but my favorite one is that little toy girl sitting on
the floor, beside the wall. Wondering what happened to her
while she was asleep. Deep. Someone dipped his dipper. Real deep.
Nasty erotic wet things were performed
on her beautiful all round hard shaped body. Impossible dreams,
and promises delivered to her on this beautiful day. All she could
do is to sit down and wait. Beautiful approach, you are pure gold.

From your previous page, there are mainly two ways of painting with oils: First get the colour right, lay it down in the right place and don't touch it again, Second is a tight understudy (like I'm doing atm) and glaze over it - but you have to wait weeks for each layer to dry.

Now I used to do the first a lot and that's what it looks like is expected in your class. Thin (with turps) drawing in ultramarine, burnt umber or other colour of your choice. Then small stokes getting every single colour right in each patch. It's no good painting a whole section in the average tone and then expect to paint over it without it getting messy. You can lay down a small section and blend the edges on the canvas, but it has to be thought out first. While oils are quite forgiving, it's easy to make a mess and lay on too much paint (scrape it off). Hold your loaded brush up against the patch you're painting and see if it matches before laying it down. Too many people splat the paint down without checking first. You'll get quicker and not have to check so often with experience. Highlights (those blobs of white paint) can be laid in top, but you have to be bold and correct - you get one chance if you don't want to scrape it off.

If you don't lay it on too thick, blending two sections with your finger is most satisfactory. Have fun making a mess learning.

    Good work so far!

The main 2 things that pop out for me when I look at your posts:
    1. You should more carefully work on your tonal rendering. Be more careful when using different tones, you'd be amazed at how much a difference of 2-3% in tone can affect the form. Experiment with very fine differences of value, see where it takes you.
    2. Master 1 brush first - in your digital paintings you seem to be using many different types of brushes. I would recommend that you pick one brush, I would say the standard, round brush, and stick only to that. You can get an immaculate painting using only that brush, and by the time you really master it, you will know more about when using a different brush is required.
As you are reading this, I am trying to become more awesome:

    Harsh critiques are welcome!
