-Doctor Morgus used to be on the air every Friday night and creeped me out as a kid.
-When CD's were relatively new
-When Disney used to make good movies.
-The only console contenders were Nintendo, Sega, NEC, Atari, and SNK.
-There was more than just Windows and Mac. (Commodore 64 and Amiga were the shit back in the day.)
-Rap music had actual creativity and Pop was actually enjoyable
-Newgrounds was focused on killing celebrities, extreme explicitness, had a five megabyte upload limit, and wasn't following stupid trends/dogmatic mindsets into a death trap.
-When game systems had multi-taps

My parents' first car had a spinny handle! It was a hand-me-down from their parents and they lived in it for a while. (The car, not the handle.) But I don't remember it 'cause I was a baby...

Damn straight man, this post is like a summary of how I feel too. I remember when the arcade machines had ashtrays attached to them.

Power failures as a kid were always fun. I was born in Joburg and anyone from there can tell you about the heavy fork lightning and
electrical storms. Power outages were so common place it was unusual not to have them.

Of course, now when the power goes out, I let out a stream of curse words that does not end until the lights are back.

The only thing I had to change was the keyboard, for the computer, as for the 1571 and 1541 diskette drives they're broken. the C64 joysticks sucked so much that it was better to get third party. Below the manuals, PC manuals. above the computer, an Infocom box thing. Next to it, a lot of games and programs, mostly pirated.

Anyone have an Amiga 500? I think my dad paid like 2 grand for this thing. Played Elite 2, Lemmings, Civ, SC2000, Deluxe Paint 3. Deluxe Paint was so sick. You had to push the disk in just so and lift it a bit otherwise it went into spasm.

Didn't have my own Amiga, but I "volunteered" at a local community TV station so I could play with theirs, and drew a lot of silly animations on it using DPaint3, with a mouse... They also had a Video Toaster, so I played with that too. OH THE GOOD OLD DAYS WHEN IT WAS ALL SO SIMPLE AND CAREFREE... Seriously, computer graphics seemed so cool and exciting then. Now software is just another tool to wrestle with and gripe about.

I still have the discs somewhere. I wonder if they still work.

It kind of blows my mind that DPaint3 had the concept of using z coordinates in a 2D drawing software way back then, and Flash only caught on, what, in CS4 maybe? And z coordinates are STILL way more convoluted in Flash than in DPaint3. Sheesh.

Ever wonder why the BBC Micro computer? Just why? The ones from school with the black and red keyboards and the boring maths games? This is why.

I bought the Neverending Story DVD...but, again, while I could watch it as a kid, I can't watch it now. There's
a scene in there that just makes me so damn depressed. Anyone who knows the film knows what scene I'm
talking about. Funny, it never bothered me as much when I was a kid.

We both love Dark Crystal, don't know how many times I got my folks to hire that for me when I was a kid.

Labyrinth is cool, though some of those musical numbers are grating...and Bowies codpiece comes right out
of your TV without any 3D glasses needed.

-Taito, IREM, Hudson Soft, and various other lesser game studios had actual name recognition.
-Rare used to be an independent company that made quality stuff.
-Growing up when Bill Hanna, Joe Barbera, Chuck Jones, and Friz Freleng were still alive.
-MTV used to have good programming like Beavis & Butt-Head, Daria, Celebrity Deathmatch, Liquid Television, and Aeon Flux.
-Console RPGs weren't pretentious, convoluted, contrived, poorly paced, and boring.
-Old systems lasted longer than one year after the new one was released.
-Miss Dynamite (Newgrounds series) used to have good animation and voice acting.
-Flash was just starting to be used for game making.
-Arcades had actual variety and people still go to them.
-Internet Explorer's only worthwhile competitor was Opera.
-Dubbed anime was far worse than what we have today.
-Atari used to be its own company rather than a part of Infogrames.
-Watching Spicy City and Spawn on HBO.

I used to love Never ending story. Legend was ok. Willow was and still is awesome. I also used to really like Lady Hawk, but it's very hard to watch as an adult (mostly because of the 80's soundtrack).
