Things that make you feel old.

Got the idea from the other forum I go to. Things will be different with the age range this site has, so I guess it'll be "make the younger members feel younger thread" for people my age or younger.




Anyway, I'll start.

I saw Pokemon the first movie in theaters.

I remember getting pissed at my brother because he got the cool Mewtwo promo card and I ended up with Electabuzz, who wasn't even in the damn movie.

Nobody knows what I'm talking about when I mention shows like

-the original- V, MASK, the -original- and best battlestar galactica.

People think Alien vs Predator was an entirely new movie series based on a computer game. (Might as well be, it sucks so hard.)

Nobodies heard of Ultima VII, Darklands, Horrorsoft, Elvira...when people talk about old classic RPGs, they talk about Baldurs Gate and Chrono Trigger.

'Best anime ever? Naruto ball z or some shit. What's an Akira?'

Granted, with most of the guys here, people -do- know what I'm talking about...I'm referring more to our local geek scene.

I feel old for having watched Dragonball Z.

Kids these days are into Fullmetal Alchemist and Death Note. Which is fine cause those are pretty cool.

Not so much the crap like Lucky Star or K-On or Code Gease and mess like that.

I was helping my buddy teach some kids at my church one time and he asked them something that put it into a weird perspective for me...

"How many of you were born before the year 2000?"

None of them raised their hand. But really, I don't know if I'll ever "feel" old, considering while all my peers were watching Cow and Chicken and Courage the Cowardly Dog (both of which I actually did watch quite a bit), I was watching M.A.S.H., The Rifleman, and Green Acres.

I loved Ultima VII! Although my favorite game of all time is still The Secret of Monkey Island. I get blank stares all the time when I bring that one up. They really don't make 'em like they used to... (You know you're gettin' old when you use that phrase)

Yep, my first game I ever played was some dodgy star wars knock off on my dads Commodore.

I also played on my buddies Atari's (Pong or Defender or something) as well as the Spectrum (Rampage)

First PC game was Police Quest 1 on an old hercules orange and black mono monitor.

uh that i recognized doom as the fps daddy of all time... Doom 2 was perfect.
doom 3 was messed up, hope doom 4 will do it right.

I still listen to the music from Doom 1. It's my favourite in the series.

Doom 2, the double barrel shotgun? Heaven for me. I loved the animation and sound of reloading it and of course the damage it did. TAKE THAT IMPS!

I really liked Doom 3 myself, the art anyway. Thought the hell stages sucked a bit, but loved the atmosphere and creature design. I know it was a departure from the formula though. -Really- looking forward to Doom 4.

Ultima VII, eh? I'll go even further back - I played Ultima IV - when it came out - on the Apple IIc. I wish I hadn't thrown out the box. Grr.

I don't feel old at all. My body just doesn't work as well as it used to.

Working with people who I could have given birth to makes me feel old. Hearing music on the Classic Rock station that I was listening to in college makes me feel old.

Nobody these days knows how to use a rotary phone. Even a corded phone is a rarity outside of a business.

I'm embracing my geezer factor. All my childhood loves have been recycled and repacked for the kiddos today. We're watching "The Mysterious Cities of Gold" on Netflix and loving it just as much as when it was on Nickelodeon in the late 1980's.

Being old makes me feel old. I have reached the age where exercise doesn't make me stronger, it opens me to the real danger of long-term joint and tendon damage.

I watched Voltron, Spiral Zone, Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on TV. I remember when the N64 was awesome because things were 3D.

Granted I'm not actually that old, but I feel older than I am seeing as Zimbabwean TV in the early 90s was showing TV from about 10 years before. So I suffered a major culture gap with people my age.
