Man, this dude has womanly hips or what...

One piece from imagination and one from a model. Tried to limit myself to only a few hours for each.

I feel like I'm getting a bit faster with these. Now I'll go back and study knee, feet and hands.

Hi matey
I am sorry I havnt been by in a while, and am glad you have been going for it with the life drawing classes they are really good, I think you just need to keep on doing it now you seem to have all the skills in place and just need more and more time to practice.
Great stuff mate, nothing to crit, all I can do is sit back and watch mate, go for it!! all the best.
A great kind hearted lumbering bullock

Some more imagination stuff and life drawing

Havn't been here in a while! Good progress on this latest stuffI love those beetles.
Your tonal studies are coming along, I recommend standing back a bit and squinting at your work. Once you do it will be much more obvious where things are too light or contrasty.
for example the first image in 214 - look at his legs and squint, he original has a lot less contrast, and it makes his legs look smoother.
oh , and fun feet studies btw - I think I'm gonna go draw some beetles
Happy sketching!
Thank you
Here is more stuff, done over the weekend. Mostly feet and a statue study. Also I thought it would be kinda funny to show my stack of sketchbooks at this point and compare it to the stack a few months back (in December) as the last image ) There are also a bunch of digital studies, but anyhow it feels nice to see all this work and know that slowly but surely there is some improvement here.

Here's more stuff done yesterday. More feet and some quick guys from imagination/ memory. Need to do more of those.

Try a softer brush with those black & white studies, it might help you
True, I need to spend more time blending and need to use softer edges. In order to practice that I did this little puppy tonight, inspired by some illustration I found in an old random fantasy folder I have. I tried to not copy the lines, but looked at the original every few minutes, credit goes to whoever made it (I hadn't saved the name of the artist) The shadows are all me though

Should go over this with a soft brush... should make it look better... should sleep now...too tired to live, but I must write down my study plan so I'll remember tomorrow. (I should really use this sb more like a journal anyway)
Work is not treating me well, which means I have less time to practice. Ideally I'd put in 4 hours every day. Today it was more like 2:30, maybe 2. Sadly that's the trend recently as my day job is getting more and more stressful. Anyhow, I really need to improve my understanding of values more and then go back and study the hell out of hands.
Right now the plan is to do about 5 days of studying my David sculpture, focusing on getting proportions down and understanding/ remembering the big muscles as well as developing more of a standard working process (Right now I go loose line drawing, a bit tighter line with some attention to perspective, big brush strokes wrapping the forms and then details a bit zoomed in). Not sure if it's the best, but seems to speed me up a bit.
Once I'm done I'll do a few days of application AKA something like that ogre up there, stuff more based in imagination. Then a few days of photo studies. Then back to Hampton for hands. Afterwards I'm not sure if I want to do more anatomy from books or get into clothing or maybe even color. Will have to see what motivates me.
As a side note so far I only missed one day of work in April, which is a record for me.
Anyhow, here is tonight's David.

Here are the last batch of feet I did. Now onto bigger and better things

Thanks for the encouraging words mate in the meantime...well fuck this is one oiled up dude with no shadow.
And here is the application of this bad boy. God it looks horrible. Hopefully seeing it here will motivate me to work more.

More stuff, doing some Hogarth to improve my memory of the basic anatomy, a lot of memory stuff will come soon.
Hampton gave me a pretty decent understanding of muscles and proportions, but now I need to add action to my poses.

Man, it's been a long time since I last posted. I've been working on three strong black and white illustrations for a contest .Spent about a month and a half working on these but I feel like I learned a ton. Must push more stuff to finish.
Anyhow, two early versions of these are above, but I reworked them quite a bit. Will update them eventually, but I'm waiting for a response from the contest first.
Moving on, here is some more practice for another piece. I decided to spend about half my work time every evening studying and half applying to an illustration. Will see how well this works, but hopefully it will force me to learn more/ tackle weird problems.

Why is it 1 AM already?

Hey dracken,
how are you doing? Hope still up to art and all
I think you are making considerable progress. I especially like the woman's portrait in your last post, the sunshine and shadows work really well!
Hope to see you around!
Thanks for stopping by, yeah I've been ignoring CA recently because of the whole forum update thing and me being busy. I'm still working about 3-4 hours every day though so here are some more recent things.
And a WIP
More will come at some point.
Your work is really developing well especially your illustration skills
Some more updates on the last character dude and some studies and what not
