    Yinari's (Beginners) Sketchbook

    Hello everyone!
So this is my beginners sketchbook. As you will soon see I still have a very long way to go. However, I hope to be able to improve as much as possible with your help.

Please don't hesitate to comment or post critique on my drawings The more critique the better.

    Thank you for watching!

(Edit: I moved the first post down, so I could write a better introduction here.)

So in an attempt to learn to draw better, I recently picked up 'Drawing on the right side of the brain'. I'm especially having problems with drawing the right anatomy, so I hope that with this book I will get better at that.

Anyway, this is my 'Pre-instruction drawing #1: Your "Self-Portrait"'. Unfortunately my scanner messed things up a bit.

So this is my try at the 'Pre-instruction drawing #2: A person, drawn from memory'. I tried to draw my mom, though with different hair it might as well have been my dad lol, in the drawing she looks more like a man than a woman XD.

Heres my "Pre-instruction drawing #3: Your hand", I left out the shading this time, cos my scanner would just mess it up anyway hehe.

Cool you are still here and you`re doing anatomy, awesome. And as for emotions, these should wait till you study head anatomy, muscles and such.

Now you have one day to double the pages Just keep the momentum going.

    Take care.

Hey, look for the shapes when drawing just about anything, to break flatness you`re dealing right now.
Altho not the best preview its should help you understand.
I will remove it from your SB after you`ve seen it.

good, I see you are studying the books. Just keep doing that and you will improve.
Also try to loosen up a bit with your linework but if you practise a lot it will come automaticly.

    Thank you ^^.

And here are some muscle drawings I did. Left out the hands for now since I can't draw those properly yet and they would've just messed up the rest of the images XD.

Hahah I know, I'm usually using mechanical pencils, but I ran out of the things you have to put in there, so I'll have to work with normal pencils, hence the not so sharp pencil XD.

Did a bunch of posemaniacs 90 sec drawings (exept the first two). I gues I should do this more, 'cos they don't look that good yet...

Hello hello! Great studies Some little tips about 90 sec poses that you could try if you want:

-Try incorporating parts of anatomy you have learnt into them (such as the loomis mannequin figure)
-Try marking the line of movement first, and then the angle of shoulders and hips and then go from there. Here is a little tutorial that explains it in further detail:

    Keep it up!

You might want to try this or this as an alternative to posemaniacs since they use real people. Don't let yourself get caught up in the contours or edges of things when you're doing gestures, instead try to analyze the pose itself. find the tilt and angle of the the shoulders and the hips and try to emphasize the main idea of the pose, whether it's stretching an arm out or a twist of the torso or standing in some interesting way. Don't just draw body parts, draw a person DOING something.

Thank you for the links, they seem very helpful.
Yea I already noticed that the poses didn't look right, so I started looking around and I found a really helpful book from Vilppu. So now I'm gonna try that out, maybe it will improve my gestures.

    Great start!

    You're getting some good advice.
I would recommend focusing on correct proportions of the body-- before getting into difficult poses. The human body is all ratios. You might want to drawing and concentrate on shapes (cubes, circles, ovals, columns) and how you can apply them to your drawings.

Yea if I follow Vilppu's book then I will get to the cubes and the circles etc eventually ^^ So thats what I'm planning to do now.
