Smile EZpaint's Finished Works Updated *March 29 2013*

I'm pretty much a self taught artist, fresh out of grad school and currently at a 9-5 job in Tokyo. Unfortunately, my job has nothing to do with art - but still chugging along! I'd like to get better, so I will try to post more here!

Two images done in a Showa-era style.
One is from the game Vocaloid, the other is for a milk company.

    Photoshop CS3

I really like these pieces, and was surprised to see the last two were photoshop pieces. Did you add a watercolor paper texture to them, because they look very traditional.

I like the first piece, but, sad to say, while the tigers look very nice and I like the way the tree is painted, the kid looks very flat, like he's a paper doll pasted into the page. I think if we could see his knees it would work a lot better.

    WickedWild'N'Wise: Thank you very much
Benjamin-the-Fox: Thanks for the crit, I can definitely see where your coming from in regard to the Tiger piece. I was trying to blend two styles together and I guess it didn't gel to well in this instance. Will keep those points in mind in the future. As for the last two digital pieces - I overlaid some paper textures onto the digital painting in order to better capture the feel of the era.
Icedearth15876: Thank you, will certainly keep trying!

I love the flying frogs. I would like the watercolors more if they were larger on screen, or if there were close ups of just the characters or more detailed portions.

Mr.Punch: Thanks for the comment, I've been meaning to try things on a more muted palette lately. However, it seems I just love colors a tad too much.

I have really enjoyed looking at your pictures here. I'm amazed at your Bulbasaur, you kept the character of the cartoon critter but it still looks convincing as a real animal. I'm not really qualified to give you painting advice but I think that you could make it stand out a little more from the background. It looks like you could darken the darkest shadows on it.

I also think that the painting of the girl with the roses in the background is to good to leave unfinished. Perhaps you should give her something else to hold in her hand to complete it?

    Hi Frida,
Thanks for your input! I will play around with the background some more to see if I can get a better balance.
For the girl with the roses, no plans at the moment but hopefully an inspired moment will strike me one day!

P.S I think your work is lovely

    Syle,

I really appreciate your comments, it's hard juggling time between watercolors and digital work, but I think these two mediums bring out different sides of my work so I try to split my time between them.

Anyway, thanks for stopping by to comment
