Lovely environments here. I like that you are going about the study in a totally different way from myself, but the sense of form and space is developing regardless... makes me think that there are just SO many ways of arriving at understandings of form and value.

Anyway, its all looking great here, I thought I'd stop by to see how the SB is going and I can see that there's a lot of love from the fellow CA members - grats!

I do have one crit actually, which would be to try to watch out for overly saturated colours in the background. Just using ctrl + U once in a while would add a lot of depth, and slightly changing the colours to add a little blue would suggest a lot of atmospheric perspective. Anyway, its looking great so keep on doing what you're doing!

Thanks for your crit man! Deeply appreciated. Not sure how well I did though >.> but I will do my best and work at it!

Some stuff, first a pretty crappy I.O.W. Crappy for different reasons, mainly because I lost track between concept and illustration and kept battling between the two. Didn't feel it at all at the end. Anyhow:

Also, head on over and vote! http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=245785 Preferbly not at me, I do not deserve it.

Today was non-art day. For exactly 53 days i've put around 12-18 hours into my art. I am trying to catch up for lost time. Anyways, decided "not to paint"... SO I thought i'd play some Quake. Got murdered and violently raped 10 games in a row so I decided it was art day again. So around 11.30'ish I started streaming. Now its 7 AM and this is what I did D:

Picked the top right one to work from.

    wip

Thanks to you whom tuned into my stream! Very much appreciated.

    Hiho Dile_

I'll try my best today to crit your stuff.
I wont comment on anatomy cause that would just be nitpicking

    Post #394:
OK I'll crit on anatomy here
the whole head hood area is kind of wrong with a too long neck and the hood being blown up like a bloon being the worst parts
The Mechas are good but I rly had problems identifying the direction they are supposed to face. I think that could have been made clearer by perspective or a design that points towards one side more.

    Post#401:
It's good that you start to integrate persons into your landscapes, which is a very hard thing to do imo. I guess the best way to do it is make the persons interact with their environment and maybe even tell a little story. like a rider racing towards a castle (to deliver a message or something) rather than just a dude on a horse
I rly like the chiniese house because it's so busy. maybe some cable poles with lots of cable would have pushed that even further (like you see in many asian countrys)

    Post #412 and #417:
I rly like it and think that the revisited painting adds a lot of movement and dynamic

    Post #426:
IOW: she looks like she rly enjoyed wrecking that ship which makes her look out of place imo. Someone wounded would or two ppl helping each other would make more senseagain telling a little story.

    that's it for now...

I enjoy seeing your stuff and want to say that all the work pays off!
keep at it, your're geting better everytime I check!

hey man awesome work lately. the latest batch of speed thumbnails is sweet. i like the top left one the most.

my only crit would be is that your enviros, particularly the ones involving architecture, tend to have that same static flat composition. i think it may have to do with the fact that you're using that perspective brush at the start of your painting. while there are instances in real life where things converge in only one point, it is not the most common composition and not usually the most interesting.

did a paintover if you don't mind:

just by cropping the composition and changing the position of the shapes in your painting, it creates a different feel and makes it more dynamic. the characters are bigger so the viewer knows they are important and now the bridges are pointing towards them, kinda emphasizing that fact. at my work, the storyboard artists always say it's not about the pretty picture but about the composition and storytelling--the cinematic elements of the shot. dile it is obvious you know how to paint but i think once you start thinking about what elements go into making a picture cinematic (size differentiation, overlap, angles) your work will jump to a whole new level. something to think about.

also check out fox orian's tutorial on da: http://fox-orian.deviantart.com/#/d50od4e

anyway hope this helps, keep pumping out the good work!

Hey guys, I'm been SUPER-BUSY past few weeks and I haven't been able to reply/update my sb at all. I'm working on a few personal pieces which has been delayed a bit.... anyways, I just wanted to reply quickly and say thanks for the critique I'm getting! It's very very appreciated.

Infinite: You already know this but your crits are spot on for sure! The anatomy stuff is just me being lazy and not using reference. I see learning the figure as my current "long time goal", atm it's being delayed due high priority things such as finding a job and getting my portfolio as good as it can be right now. I don't want to be emberassed and have to say "This is..kinda old." everytime I link someone my work haha. But it's being taken care of! I promise a lot heavier focus on figures on all levels as soon as life is sorted.

Eightball: I definitely agree with you on the "same thing all over". I'm not sure what other architectural paintings you are refering to, but generally I definitely agree with you haha. I even talked about it a bit in my blog sometime ago. Its a "comfortzone" i've tried breaking out of recently, and I try not to place my horizonline in the same spot everytime, which keeps happening haha. The tutorial you linked me might be the most lacking one I've seen on the subject so far, though. I do know my perspective, I don't think thats the issue. The issue is me starting several of my paintings the same way and not exploring shapes/compositions more. D: And to "defend" the perspective and composition a bit, usually a 1pp should reward the viewer in the end of it somewhat, which I didn't do in my painting, its lacking a focal point to begin with, which is also something that *I* definitely need to put more focus on haha.

Oh and btw, checked out your portfolio D: Everything is looking dope man!

To everyone else which I haven't gotten around to reply to: Thanks a lot! I'll try to return the favor asap!

Ahh yes dude!! I know you have tons of other portraits you've done, so I expect you to post those too. And the finished rabbit mech.

Anyways, this portrait is looking very nice. I think a few areas can use a little more attention such as the base of the neck and the clavicles, but really it's a nice painting and a definite step up in your portraiture

How do you start to sense the concept of these environments? Everything I do seems so blobby and weird. Very cool updates! Have you done any experiments with cold colors and warm colours. I think that would be a cool way to give drama to your paintings.
