Mixed Media Painting with Jane Radstrom AVAILABLE NOW!

Not only is Jane a gifted artist, but she's also great at articulating her thought process while she works. The result is a 2+ hour demo which is filled to the brim with valuable information.

In this video, up-and-coming artist Jane Radstrom welcomes the viewer to watch her as she uses pastel, gamsol, and oil to create an image of a seated female.

As Jane says in the video, she wants to be a creative participant for the whole process. Rather than copying exactly what s in front of her, a photograph in this case, she uses her subject as a jumping off point. The final image is only reached through a process of problem solving, editing, and modification. Throughout the video, Jane employs artistic principles such as calligraphy, contrast, edges, and composition to help guide her and achieve a good outcome.

Not only is Jane a talented artist, but she also has the gift of being able to understand and articulate all the choices she makes while working. That is the real heart of this video, regardless of which medium you work in.

Jane Radstrom is a freelance painter and designer residing in Austin, TX. In addition to working for clients nationwide, she teaches figure drawing for Academy of Art University Online and The Art Department. Her training includes time studying under Ron Lemen and Jeff Watts at Watts Atelier in Encinitas, CA, The Illustration Academy intensive workshop, mentorship with renowned illustrator Mark English, and a BFA with Honors from Ringling College of Art and Design. Currently represented by MadeBy gallery in Sarasota, FL.

Just finished watching this great download, here are my thoughts on it:

First off, it was a pleasure watching this download from start to finish. Jane R. Really is a delight to watch and listen to.
It was interesting to see how slightly awkward she looked in the very beginning at the introduction, like she wasn´t too comfortable or used to getting filmed. BUT as soon as she started her presentation all her "fears" (so-to-speak) were obliterated and you really noticed how comfortable she was doing what she does best; creating stunning art.

Personally I have never been a big fan of working with pastels, but after this video I really want to get my hands dirty once again, and try out this way of working.

The filming was splendid. it really starts off from afar so that you get a sense of the entire feel and movement of the picture. -like one should in the beginning of any picture. Keep your eye on the entire image to make sure everything is where it should be. Composition.
As soon as this stage was over the camera zoomed in and she started detailing more, but still now and then taking that important step back to look at the entire picture.

it is splendid to hear her talk about what goes on in her mind during her entire presentation. What changes she is making, and why, and how it is helping her piece as a total.

Great download, looking forward to part 2!
On a side note, I really hope that we get a high-rez image-file of the final in part 2, so we can really enjoy all the beautiful details this images really consists of!

I have only seen preview pictures of this video, but it looks like Jane is really getting into the work as she goes along, and I can relate to feeling that way! Hee hee. I love that winning smile from the last picture. The details look great! What I see is a beautiful work! Thank you for sharing your process with us, Jane!

I think every drawing and painting materializes itself through a series of decisions made by the artist. The more informed these decisions are, the better the result. Jane really has a gift to teach, because she is really able to make her thought process transparent to the viewer, therefore this demo is really helpful and insightful. What I also like is how she deals with her not so good decisions and how she is able to work with them. Best quote: "This is my picture!"

Plus you really get appetite to work with pastels.

I hope the second part comes soon. And

On a side note, I really hope that we get a high-rez image-file of the final in part 2, so we can really enjoy all the beautiful details this images really consists of!
