    kimozabbi - thanks bro

wasabi89 - haha vlw maaan! vamo lah! cade vc que nao aparece?

Jephyr X - thank you SO MUCH. i cant say how glad i am just for you going trough the whole sb. and then giving me so much encouragement, thank you

    DStraX - thanks!

LtPlissken - haha thanks man, yeah i think we are all here to be helped but first we goota show some love! one of the the main life lessons ive learned is that people are not looking for egocentrical people, and the best thing we could give someone is our intrest in them

    sooooo, today was crazy!
got to take a blood test, i think i almost passed out.
and i improved my schedule, its now completely crazy and gigantic.
i completely failed to do it today, and tomorrow i have a huge test so im not gonna be able to do much.
but those are excuses!!! i should just stop sleeping for once.

anyway, heres what i got for today

    doodles

they are still loking flufy! i couldnt get the lizard looking thing i was trying. ill exercise more on this kinda of stuff

and then this one. at frist something was really weird. than i did the lines and realize her hair line was super wrong. so i fexed it. i still think something is not right.

RAAAAA now that i lok at this i really dont like it. specially her eyes
EDIT: i was thinking now. maybe its because its a piece based of a strong line work so it is laking the line it self.
i had people say to me that you should put color on a drawing, but acctually paint it from start.
but i know when i tried to do that i got placement and proportions even more wrong than usually.
    soooooooo, what now?
i guess the answer is draw some more!

haha i liked this line of thinking

hey dude. great motivation you have and it shows over these pages. the only crit i can offer is on the most recent peice. mainly because its something i coldnt get my head around it for a while. her right eye looks very flat and is just genuinly tricky to get right in perspective, the near side looks ok beause it is slightly flatter with the picture plane. its weird because the eye ball should be treated as a sphere but its quite translucent so a lot of sub-surface-scattering goes on. but i think the problem at the moment is 1. both eyes arnt set back in the eye socket far enough making her look cartoony. and 2... the eye ligs dont wrap around the eyeball as if its a ball. its quite hard to illustrate, id say get some refference for this angle and practive the eyes especially. they are the most intricate part and also grap the most attention.

on another note the hair also adds to the cartooney-ness. as a mass it has some 2d form, but at the moment it looks a bit like a lego wig or something. look up marta dahlig on youtube, she paints hair like nobodies buisiness!

keep on truck'n pal your doing great.

lol i think rendering was sort of like cheating on this one, a sucky drawing doesnt look so bad we you render it

    whaaargh
    alright, this was lame.
its such a big diference the reference drawings from the imagination ones.
i need to close that gap!!

and i went back at looking at algenpfleger stuff. i dont think i does me good
i mean, tons of inspiration and motivation, but my drawings get different whenever i look at his stuff.

Yo dude! You should paint more from black/white ref, it really helps to focus on how to PAINT (not draw, as you can draw pretty good already) volume and form.
Impressed by how much studies you do on anatomy, something I should do too!
But anyways, It's great to see your stuff dude!

Ahhhh yes the eternal quest. I'm slowly starting to see the reason we all do endless studies...they do help train the ole brain, eye and hand. That and then just keep on tryin' and applyin' all that we learn to the schtuff from our imaginations. Wouldn't it be cool if there was an easier way.

All that said I do really like your original characters from #151...especially the skull helmet guy thang and senior drip face thingy below it.

Kewl foreshortening in the first one in #56 (and you know I'm gonna love yer big hipped momma you tried to sneak by me there too).

The hand and portrait study jus' below them are very good...and of course it's so good to see the figure/anatomy work and character studies!~!

    Keep 'em coming!!

You said that well about the egocentric people.
We cannot let ourselves to be like that, we should
always play friendly and fair. We should care.
About your head proportion struggles; I would go
for more pencil heads if I were you. Draw more
heads and try to rotate them under various angles and try
to put human heads in perspective. A few day of head
training will already show results. I am not sure, are you
using more than one type of graphite pencil? Try to use softer
ones, like 2B or 3B, or even try out the mechanical pencils with
2B leds. You can create miracle with those combinations.
Also if your scanner or camera takes out the contrast and
sharpness of your pencil drawings, try to edit them in photoshop
or in some photo editing software. I usually increase the contrast
and brightness of my scans, and sometimes use a multiply layer
to make the lines more crisp. So, keep on working hard and post
    more of your magic.

wasabi89 - haha faz sentido sim man! ja te respondi no seu sb

r zanchetin - haha valeu man. to sem minha tablet mas quando conseguir do um toque sim!

heix33 - haha thanks man. yeah i use that ook too, really good one. and nirvana is the shit, kurts a genius(one with a lot of problems)

focus_light - thanks man. sorry for that, for me everything is fine

Abee - thanks a LOT man. im gonna do that as soon as i get my tablet back

Jephyr X - hahah thanks a bro. yeah but i think its part of the fun this chase. if it was easy i would value it so much those who achieve it

LtPlissken yeah man pencils! as ou can see, im all but them right now! yeah i use mechanical pencils, i used to put 2b in them and just go with with. but i dont remeber right now whats inside them,(which is a pretty big problem) but i think its HB. i gave up having a whole bunch of pencils. if you want to do good shit you have to know stuff, it doesnt matter your materials!

Vablo - hah yeah thanks. faces, im on it!

    peterwhite - thanks. i will

    http://youtu.be/V31sVRZJr1c

    alright to the update!
    a few things first...

    im so lost!
i got no clue HOW i should draw.
i mean, i love a whole bunch of styles, i want do to them all!!!
    should i do
    like kchen geometric stuff,
more blocky lines where i get better proportions
or a more fluid line sort of hannes or pascenko where the figures are more dinamic and everything has a great flow.

plus i was felling really down. it goes lke this.
my referenced stuff is ok/good(for me)
my memory stuff is ok too.
but when i try to come up with a new pose is completely shiiiiiiittttt
i just cant even imagine it in my head, and them just pooops come out.

    also on the rendering.
im in between doing perpendicular to the form, like bames.
or parallel to it, sort of like wes burt.

    so many doubts.

i wish i could just develop several different styles

anyways. you guys think its valid to study "contemporary master" ?
cuz i think im doing some pascenko stuies soon, i just love his stuff.

    anways...

warm up! landscape "gestures" (i want my tablet baaack!)

    studies

    gestures

    moar
u guys kept telling me i needed better faces
    they were really fun!

    sp, really weird looking. fail

    doodles. fun!

    i just want to state...
i feel like my stuff gets too much influenced, from alex in this example. but its now like im thinking, what would alex do?
its just that i look at his stuff, then everything that comes out of my mind resembles what inside my mind, in that case what i love, alexs drawing
(did that sentence made any sense?)
even when im like, dont draw like that dude. i still do! at least it only takes a couple days to pass

Nice stuff lately... I dig your figures, especially the elaborated sexy gal ones
The portrait in #151 is odd, I don't want to show you my very messy overpaint, it's a quickie and I'm very rusty but I tell you what the major flaws are in my opinion.
    1. The bridge of the nose is deeper into the skull. It's a really impressive dip between the bulging nasal bones and brow ridge, even from this angle. You brought the whole nose a bit out of the face.
    2. The eyes are really flat and the bottom isn't that curvy anyway in real life.
    3. I think the mouth is a little bit too low.

Tenta enxergar onde a luz reflete onde tem sombra e etc q nem nos trampos com cores, you know what im talking about

You're right about "easy/value" of course!

[My 2 cents] I understand your frustrations about what to study. I do think studying modern works is completely valid.

As for what to do: I'd only suggest to draw/paint etc whatever pleases you. Of course balanced with various studies.

But I've found that often deep down we 'know" what we want...but our conscious minds won't allow us to see it. So do whatever pleases you...it will be more fun that way...and keep art from becoming a "job". And along the way it will help you distil where you want to go ultimately.

    [/My 2 cents]

Otherwise it's great to see the recent pencil studies. The portrait you call a "fail" above is actually pretty good IMHO.

thank you!!! for checking out my SB, I'm flattered that you like my doodles ..

Don't stop as what you said, only you can stop what you're doing

and I am encouraging you to keep up the studies, if you feel there is something wrong
try not to ignore it and seek for solution by using references ...

rendering is such a pain in the ***, I also have trouble finishing a piece by always keeping
rendering a wrong value or color, and later noticing something wrong with the form, comp etc

it's a constant battle as long as you keep the idea intact which I have also trouble on keeping the idea (concept)
by later not interested anymore, oh well I'm also still struggling ....

Jephyr X - haha yeah man, i guess it makes sense doing what i like right? thats why i draw at least. so why not draw what i like too?

nevermindjoker - hahhahah yes man i have that battle all the timmee! feels like i have adhd or something. thanks for passing by

sooooo i slacked off yesterday. fuuuuuuuuuu

anywas. im having some real problems with doing staind poses. first i cant imagine them, then they are usually pretty boring to do, but i really feel like i need to do them.
second it screws me everytime i look at alexs works, because i unconsiously draw different when i do, and everything comes out as crap
also my imagination feels like a big elephant poop, cant think of anything
anyways, heres some stuff. today sucked. i cant draw shit.

Yeah...it probably seems a bit silly on the surface...OTOH I've visited sketchbooks where people are chasing after styles...because everyone else here is doing them.

Anywho...sounds like you're already there! Good to see the recent schtuffezes...like the original characters, portrait, hands, feet, life/anatomy/gestures, and even a hot babe....not bad!

BTW...I looked for elephant poop but couldn't find it...maybe the attachment manager dropped it.

Nice studies man Yeah you should think about functional things in your design (not that I always do that but I guess it should XD ) What kind of colleges are you applying for?

Thanks for stopping by my SB! I figured that I would do the same. So far so good with your work and you are on the right track with your studies. I can only suggest that you concentrate on less quick studies and more longer studies. I see that you have several hand studies but why not try working out their anatomy or perhaps do a full tonal rendering or even adding a few more planes to help describe the form instead of a linear approach. Don't be so hard on yourself about the portraits. That last one has all the color and light information, it is just lacking the structure underneath to help you nail the likeness. With practice you'll get it. In my thread I have a series of riely method 5 min head sketches which is a great exercise for working on the head. Also you can check out a tutorial on the subject here: http://www.freshdesigner.com/how-to-...de-view-video/

Another great artist for portraiture here is William Whittaker. Just search him and you will find his thread and another one that I really like is John Howard Sande. He employs the premier coup method better that anyone I know.

    Hope this helps Cheers!

anyways, heres some stuff. today sucked. i cant draw shit.
Obviously, you can draw shit. I'm seeing things that are drawn, and they are of recognizable form. If you're looking for a general metric in terms of whether or not you can draw shit, then there is no doubt about whether or not you can. You can. Don't be so hard on yourself.

While I think self-deprecation is a healthy component of any artistic endeavor, there's a limit on, say, the point where it continues to be helpful. It may be that point where you describe your illustrations as excrement that it ceases to be all that helpful. Now, in those cases where your imagination doesn't seem to be of particular use, it's probably time to work from references, or paint/draw from life. In that sense, Wheeljack18 is absolutely correct in stating that you should spend some time on some studies. Really iron out the details, ect. Slow your roll, and enjoy the process. And as a general rule, I would advise against drawing x's through the studies that you don't like. Those mistakes, which, in your mind are failures, are the biggest steps in improving. The fact that you realize those mistakes only means that you posses some fundamental understanding of how that form actually looks or needs to appear. So learn to see your mistakes as blessings, and for the single and emphatic reason that you can detect them in the first place.

Furthermore, getting super-frustrated about your mistakes will subconsciously result in associating drawing with frustration, and then drawing will cease to be enjoyable.
