You have an enviable way with environments, which is so nice to see! I'm hopeless at them, for one. The castle looks great,

Whoa, what a great improvement on these first two pages already!
I'm seeing incredible progress on your lines and brushstrokes!
Not to mention colour, especially in this piece, that's awesome!
Keep up the good work and take care!

Great sketchbook - I can definitely already see improvement! (Though, I do particularly like some of the studies in post #14. Really nice line work in some of those!) It's always nice to see a blend of traditional painting as well as digital pieces; so many sketchbooks (including mine, sadly) are solely digital works these days.

Kudos! Keep up the hard work!

Jansi - Thanks, I actually struggle with environments more than characters

Luckers - Thank you. It is kinda surprising actually, I don't feel more skilled but when I look back at my old stuff, they suck a lot more than I thought lol. I am glad I made this SB last year, great way to track progress.

Riley Stark Thanks, I believe my traditional has gotten stronger as a result of digital and vice versa...which makes sense because at the end its all drawing and practice can't hurt.

    Another castle study from ref
    and
A smaller study painting of the bigger one I forgot to upload.

You seem to be way more comfortable with colors and brushstrokes in enviros rather than figures though. Maybe try to paint figures the same way as environments. I would say the recent ones are definitely a huge step up from last page though.

    Greenhouse: Thanks and NP.

Continue: Thanks, its interesting though because I actually do not feel comfortable with environments at all and recently have been practicing almost exclusively enviros lately. I will try to improve figure as well, I do paint them differently though.

Sorry, haven't updated in awhile, busy with Computer Science...so much workk.

1 - Another castle environment, wanted to try the lasso tool, gave me some nice edges, I think i can incorporate this tool more into my future works.

2 - Whimsical Ideas pop into my head all the time, I finally decided to try and do some comical illustration. I am happy with the outcome, the cartoon-style was interesting to grapple for the first time. Much more focus is on line, composition, how the poses interact and such. I hope to do more of this in the future!

This illustration is entitled: Creative Problem Solving.

Great update. The castle looks very good. The lasso tool does bring out a lot of clarity.

One thing though, The cloud to the right of the castle doesn't really feel far away enough, it actually feels like it's next right to the castle. That's in part because you have very similar colors around that corner between the color and the cloud.

The last piece is awesome. The storytelling's clear, and it's funny as hell ;D

Continue: Thanks, I agree with you about that cloud.

    Artminded: Thank you.

Ahhh been so busy with school but now that summer is here I am back!
    Heres some lousy updates XD.

1 - Knight study painting for a scrapped idea.
2 - Head study from photo...I really struggled with this, I think the light/color of photos throw me off.
3 - Poses for practice since I had no life figure drawing all semester.

    I hope diablo 3 doesn't distract me too much though >_> .

Great gesture studies although I'm not really sure about using Posemaniacs as a study tool. The poses are quite unnatural, and a lot of the really beautiful bend and twist that happens with a real figure is lost.

Oh, check out www.quickposes.com . It's made by a fellow CA artist and it's easily the best resource for figure drawing online I've found.

Great colors on the portrait BTW. I think the shape of the skull is needs a bit tweaking though, ie, the side plain of the head might be better defined, even though it might not be very obvious on the reference.

Aaron_ - Thanks I agree with you on the head. Lol, was it that obvious I used posemaniacs? I don't think I mentioned the source but I agree and will check out your link. Cheers.

Really love that bridgman study earlier.
You should work on the plans of the face though, that face painting earlier needs more definition around the cheek bones etc
    good luck!

Hey cool stuff here, the barbarian's really cool, but the lower half is a bit short I think, but maybe that's just the stylization.

The pond sketches are very interesting BTW. Would love to see more of those, and maybe slightly more refined ones(the marks got a bit too rough in the lower right one).
