So I did a life study again with my Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1.
I'm having huge difficulties in uderstanding it though it seems. I hope there is someone who could help me with it?
Here's the life study and what it looked like after I transferred it from Note to my computer via dropbox:



And this is a photo that I took from Note screen.




So after I transferred the picture to my computer, the colors looked way different than when I painted it with Note. Also contrasts are way off.
The photo distorts the colors too a little bit because of the screen reflections (little too much reddish here and there) but you get the point of how different they look. The colors and contrasts are way different. What am I doing wrong? It really doesn't encourage to do stuff with note if they loose all their colors and contrasts after transfer.

smuli: Thx! I know this too in theory but I cannot seem to use that knowledge in practise. Maybe I think too little when drawing? Also I'm still sometimes very confused about what is cold and what is warm color, sounds stupid I know. Maybe life studies could help in this too.

Unless the light source is white and there's no colorful surfaces or blue sky around, light and shadow usually have different temperature and articulating it adds believability. In the case of that eye study, in the skin surrounding the nearer eye, both the highlights and shadows are different kinds of brown so pretty warm colors when you look at them separately. However, when you look at them together, the highlight color's lack of saturation makes it look colder. Think about the color wheel with black/grey/white in the middle and blue and orange the two extremes if you have trouble seeing which color is warmer.

About the newest study, I don't know much about notes/cell phones but did you run the picture through Photoshop? I've sometimes had weird color problems with PNGs but they looked fine when I opened them in Photoshop and I was able to save them in a different format.

Yeah I ran it through Photoshop and saved it as jpg. Well now I lowered the brightness on my galaxy note so we'll see how goes the next time. Also it helps a little bit when I twist the contrasts of the picture in Photoshop. Still somehow it seems that there is some issue with reds and browns. Reddish browns kind of loose their reddishness when they are transferred. Weird. But maybe I just need to accept that the colors on note are not exactly the same as in my computer screen.

Great studies - I loooove the one in post #460!

For the most recent one, I don't think your problem is textures - it's contrast. Something I do to occasionally double-check my values is to flatten the image and use auto-levels (ctr+shift+L in Photoshop) just to see the difference. That can help snap you out of your current mindset and see the full value range.

Hey man! You're not ruining any screenshots in my opinion. In this latest study you could probably push the depth a bit more. Separating the diffrence between foreground and background. It's readable right now, but could use a tweak. Because now some parts of the painting are competing with my attention. You cleared this issue very well in post #460, the focal point is obvious and the contrast is great!
Really nice progress otherwise mate. Good work!

Going on towards new studies and hoping to figure out the depth issues.

It's a screenshot from Terra Nova. Never actually really watched the show but just thought that it might have some cool landscapes in it.
And since I bought Netflix (where I can watch movies and series), I have nice unlimited source of screenshot references.
