Some arms, crappy photostudy and chow sketch of Lolth-Demon Queen of Spiders.
Hoping to get it finished this time..
Oh and also I'm not sure anymore how should one post images here without losing their quality to this.. grainy mess?
Or should I just stop using the attach manager..?

Just some photostudies.
Your portraits are coming along nicely! I particularly like the b&w one.![]()
Keep up the hard work!
Thanks syrella!
Two screenshotties, about 30 min each.
I'm so bad at these quickie portraits![]()

MY SKETCHBOOK, COMMENT & CRITIC THE SHIT OUT OF ME
Love the studies and the Lolth wip - my only crit is that the composition could be more interesting. Maybe do a few thumbs and play around with the shapes a bit before you settle on the pose next time. Other than that, keep it up!![]()
Sketchbook * Deviantart * Twitter * Google+
Qikalain: thanks! Hehe it's not as spooky as one would think
ozark: kiitos! Cool to meet more fellow finns!
dierat: thx girl! Hope the new year has started well for you.Uuh I know I really should do more thumbnailing. Usually I just start playing around and just sort of take the first image that I have in my head. Bad way of doing things. I like it how you always try different thumbnailings and plan things so carefully beforehand. Gotta try that myself too.
Soo today's quickies. They're terrible, I know but trying to simplify values as much as possible.
I really, really like the portraits in post 423! So much improvement in the softness and handling edges. The first one in 425 looks solid too!
Thanks a lot smuli! Nice to hear that.
Moar photoreffed faces. ..I'd really like to learn do landscapes better as well but don't know if I should just focus on learning people first..
Or is it okay to learn little bit of this and little bit of that? Have so many things I should study that I don't know in what order to study them![]()
Photo study.. Got inspired by the beautiful landscape while walking home from work.
Sadly my phone's battery went dead so I didn't have time to take many photos..
Life study and photo study (ref by me)

Lookin' better and better as you go!Not too much in the way of feedback right yet, just keep at it! Still lifes and lots of life studies are always a good way to go.
Perhaps it goes without saying, but... tried any works from imagination lately? Sometimes those are helpful as a sort of "check point" to let you know where you're at!
Anyhow, good luck!! Thanks for dropping by my sketchbook too!
syrella: thanks again!I do imagination works every now and a then but should do them more!
Just some crappy life study.. Everything else is just too much of a crap to post here.
Crap from photoos. Another took ages and another one about 15 min.
If it seems like I am overusing mixer brush tool, it's just because I probably am.

whoa! You've been a busy little goblin!![]()
Great stuff, on to colorstudies and everything! Nice.
You seem to have grown quite a bit (in your drawing abilities of course![]()
I like the colors in the last 2 landscapes (mixerbrush tool you say? gotta find that one)
Also a very interesting take on Lolth you've got there, definately different than the usual "woman scorned" thing.
Keep it up!

Harm: thx pal!Yes yes I ..umm my drawing abilities are growing day by day by chewing bone.. umm.. practising artsy stuff so hard.
Gonna be powerful terrifying gobl.. umm artist one day soon.
fersteger2: thank you sir! Glad to hear I nailed the colors.
Soo another poor photostudy. I really need to practise more trees
Ref again by me.
The color image you did in 423, I am so totally digging where the colors went on the bridge of her nose. Great stuff in here so far, I'm liking the landscapes you did too!
Wow, these photo studies are amazing!!!! Love the atomsphere you create with your colors. I can really feel the temperature of the setting!
Linzwinz: Thanks!
Cabbage Caterpillar: Really?Thx!
Just some poor screenshot study.. I hate being sick and I hate being lazy and I hate it when those two are combined.
Also I really really really wanna learn paint and draw humans!
That looks great! Good blending and I see that your simplifying the hair. Looks really good.
Pointer about white of the eyes, and I appologise if this is old news and someone has pointed this out already. White of the eyes tends to be light skin color instead of light grey. It's that damn bouncing light again. If you think about it, eye is just a white ball sitting in and surrounded by fleshy bits. Hence when light hits the skin surrounding the eye and bounces out, there's always some color bleed to the eyeball shifting the color towards skin tone. Also you wan't the highlight to be the brightest value in the eye, so it makes sense to tone that white down a bit. Keep it light, but one or two steps darker than the specular reflection so that the highlight really pops.![]()
Thanks Ville! You really got me thinking about the eyes and really I hadn't even thought of the reflections things like that. Makes a lot sense!
Need to practise moar eyes still.
Here's photostudy. Ref is from here. Nice ref pictures there.
Also found another great nude reference site, here.
Still making the eyes always way too big. :/
Blaaaa. Dis from da screenshot of Inglorious Basterds.
What's wrong with it? Can't figure out myself.
nice progress through your sketchbook !!! one thing is that you should really really paint from life ( selfportraits ) more often to get better ! painting from photo is good from time to time, but is not making you progress a lot on your drawing, because it's already flatten, it's really easy to get good drawing from photo, but when it comes to life painting, things become a lot harder !! Anway, keep it uuup !!!
I really like the photo studies of landscapes, good colors and brush strokes! On the study from Inglorious Bastards, I don't see anything really "wrong" with it but one thing that might take a bit of life out of it is that your light and shadow are both warm (there's the rule that if light is warm, shadows should be cold). The nearer eye looks quite good with slightly cool highlights, if you'd cool them up for the right side as well, it could look more natural.
kikindaface: Thanks! Haha I know that I should draw more from life and yet I'm not doing it. I don't know why. There's something wrong with my brain. Maybe some sort of brain leech? Though drawing from photos is still very hard at me too.
smuli: Thx! I know this too in theory but I cannot seem to use that knowledge in practise. Maybe I think too little when drawing? Also I'm still sometimes very confused about what is cold and what is warm color, sounds stupid I know. Maybe life studies could help in this too.
Soo here's one life study.. It took ages and still doesn't look realistic at all.

Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;

And beats high mountain down."

I'm sorry it took forever to visit your SB... Considering it has some nice priority in my CA life, it means I barely visited CA in the last months. Never a good sign.
The Demon Queen sketch looks very goodI like the snowy enviros too. I wish our lovely scenery inspired me *sigh*.
I wondered about it several times myself. I was quite sure doing multiple things is better for me but human faces are so very interesting
Well it takes forever to master the drawing of humans so you should do other stuff before you get awesome at that
I'm sure enviros are a good choice, it's a nice break from portrait drawing and you can't draw heads and figures without a real background forever anyway. I had some more smart thoughts when I was thinking about it (looking at the great scenery in the back seat of a motorbike... I got so inspired those times... Never when I'm at home...) but I forgot them. But I know I should draw enviros and my humans will benefit from that too.
The paintings in #415 have a nice feel but they seem a bit too monochromatic...? Or it's the values too? I don't know but they aren't as good color wise as regarding other things.
{Oh I added a sentence without putting here a forth 'forever'... How superb...}

Heyy good to see you Shin! Thanks!
Maybe you should try painting the landscape in your head when you see it. That way you could remember it better.
Like not just looking it but thinking of the brushstrokes you would make and think of the colors you would choose when painting it.
Been thinking of doing that kind of exercises someday myself. Now been just doing those on simple objects though.
Lame-ass life study I managed to do before my Samsung Note ran out of battery.
Uugh I promise to become good one day so you don't have to watch this crap anymore![]()
