Great colour/value studies and fantastic improvement over the year! I'd love to see you push a few more of the studies to finer detail. Keep it up

Great studies! As others told you, try to paint with harder edges, the images will benefit a lot from it!

Sajok: heyy thanks a lot! Uuh yeah everyone keeps saying that. I shall try to make more longer stuff for ya.

marcocasalvieri: much thanks! I will try to learn the secrets of edges.

Oh hey look yet another work that I had no idea what I was doing with.
Read some stuff about edges and realized that I understand nothing about them. In the end this just turned out to be some sort of test ground for brushes I guess. Ref.

Moar of the same stuff. I should really be studying values and doing life studies. But I just love doing faces. The more I understand about the structure of the face,
the more I like drawing them. But for some reason I'm scared of getting to values with pencils.

Really like your landscape/screencap/paint studies, it's inspiring to see how little detail/strokes are needed to capture the values and feel of a scene.

Oh hells yes, so many new studies! Loving those head sketches, really nice flowing lines on them too.
Looking at your earlier head sketches, it's amazing to see how far you have come in such a short span of time!

And that Frodo & Gollum screenshot looks wicked. Really nicely done.
Thanks for the link. That website looks like brilliant resource.

Considering I'm sick and don't feel I have any right to criticize others anyway, I will be very short.
Maybe it won't help the slightest but...
You should focus on eyes and mouths more. They are both very important and hard, well I'm sure you know that well enough.
In #389, you did so many things more or less right but the mouth shape has nothing to do with the original. It looks like you didn't paint what you saw but what you thought you saw. The eyes are another problematic area but I can't help at it, it's just damn hard so you need to keep drawing them, I'm rooting for you.

shiN: thanks for the crits! Yeah really should study more of them eyes and lips. Just been so lazy lately, don't know why. Just don't feel like doing anything. Maybe it's because of this depressing darkness? Though I kind of like it also..

Good looking portraits! I really like the values and edges on this one, especially in the eyes, cheeks and nose area! On Frodo's face, the colors, brush strokes and construction also look great! Thanks for the screenshot site link and keep up the good work!

Thanks smuli! I'll try to keep it up although it feels somewhat hard these days.

Been doing some other stuff too but I really don't feel like posting them here since they've all more or less failures anyways.

Caterpillar: Thanks! Yey one can never have too many study buddies! Uh yeah about them muscles.. They seem to be really hard to remember. Even the arm seems to be too much for me lol. Although yesterday I kind of realized that there isn't really that many muscles in your arm so it shouldn't be impossible to learn them. I think.. I gues.. Maybe

Soo here's some moar anatomy and some random reffed stuff. Oh and sucky gestures from life.

Anatomy studies aren't boring, at least not for me Seeing yours give me moderately strong kicks to start doing such ones myself again. (Anatomy is fascinating just my memory resists so I spend a lot of time without feeling I've learned anything. But maybe I still did.)

I couldn't find the words for the newer portraits before but I like the eyes more than usual, they are more lively somehow. In #405, his left eye makes the picture (okay, the other one is weaker). It gives him a confident feel, he's focused and means business with that eye. Something like this, words still aren't my true friends.

Don't underestimate the difficulty of arm anatomy, maybe it doesn't have that many muscles but turning the wrist or bending the elbow or doing both, call for entirely new muscle charts so because of the movements, I think it's one of, if not the hardest part of a human body. You seem to be well on your way already but for more anatomy info, check out George Bridgman's Complete Guide to Drawing from Life, he explains the basic forms of muscles and how they attach very well.

I like the woman's head on the last post, keep them coming!

shiN: Thanks again! Well I think that for me, what makes anatomy studies boring is exactly the fact that I can't seem to remember them Human figure is fascinating and I love drawing it, but muscles are just so hard to figure out. But I can only blame myself for not remembering them because I study them too little.

smuli: Thanks again! Thehe I'm definitely not underestimating it, but I just sort of figured out that if I learn where the muscles attach and how the bones beneath them behave, I should be able to know how they react when you move your arm. Also thanks for reminding me that I have that book also

Uaah I really feel like I don't deserve your comments because I've been such a terrible lazy-ass. Shame on me.
The crappy part about updating so rarely is that you won't necessarily remember what you've done during the week and what you should be updating here.

Aaa trying out my first chow ever. Don't know if it'll become anything..
So it's supposed to be a goblin assassin and a member of a Kings royal court. Feedback welcome, is it even assassin-like? Was thinking of this bishop-kind of assassin that hides all sorts of daggers etc. inside his robe but here showing only glimpse of what's in there.

lionheartGFX: Thanks! Yeah I'll definitely try to sketch more ideas tomorrow if i find the time.
Though probs won't get it finished in time anyways, but good practise nevertheless.

Just one Sargent study for today. I've always been in awe of how he uses colors. Wish to learn that someday too.
