    Crimbal: Cheers man! I'll try.

Ismo: Np, just trying to share observations that might or might not be usefull.

Thanks for the video link. Awesome demo but that is to be expected from FZ. So I checked the video and there was some really interesting
insights there that I decided to try out. One layer one brush, and now I think I finally get it. I finally get why it's useful to paint on
one layer. It forces one to think about the progress and think about each brushstroke, and when one has to do that the brush stroke economy improves among other things.
I think I'm one step closer of achieving the sort of painterly style I really wan't to get.

    GoT screenshot study.

*Edit* The pic looked a bit small so I added slightly bigger one. Oh and page 7 . WOOOO!

Beautiful brush use on the latest screenshot study! I actually like its backround more than the actual figure since you can really see the brushstrokes in the background. I also love this and this.

And yeah GoT rules! Since the first season ended My interest started to kind of fade but then I bought the books and started reading like maniac. Hence I'm all over the GoT stuff again.

And another GoT screenshot study. Wanted to do another but my neck started to hurt.

Hello! I thought I'd return the sketchbook-comment sentiment, partly because I know where you're coming from with this:

But mostly because the studies you've been posting and your progress are inspiring. I'm envious of the seemingly effortless way you're capturing light and colour.
    ...which is only my opinion.

The specular looks fantastic. The only thing that feels a little off is maybe the lack of light hitting the underside maybe? I know it's supposed to be reflecting only one light source (right?), but you have some hitting around the bottom edge that's resting on the table. It sort of feels like that would be reflected back up on the underside of the helm to some degree. I could be completely wrong on that though.

Really great sketchbook. I love the screenshot studies. It looks like you're getting a nice range of value in them.

Man, GREAT studies really. You seem to enjoy them and learn in your own way, and there's a special approach to them. I see that you are doing many things alltogether, enviros, lighting, color etc and doing well! Keep up man, inspiring.

    Knut: Thankyou sir.
I do enjoy making thse studies but as of late I can't seem to muster enough will and energy to produce more than one study a day.

Fisrt of all thankyou for your kind words. They are encouraging as always.
Second I think you are right. Good catch! I tried to imply the reflection of the lit bevor rim but now that I look at it I believ that reflection should be higher up.
Thanks for the critique! Point taken and learned.

I thought I wasn't going to be posting anything today. Been spending most of the day reviewing my knowledge of anatomy and proportions...and cursing...lots and lots of cursing. Anyways in the end I just stumbled on interesting photo and thought "oh what the heck"

Man, I love these medieval armor studies. Makes me want to do some too. Maybe I will.

That helmet you drew from head shows you're learning a lot. Classy stuff. You're also getting your textures down pretty nicely allready. "Less is more" often is true with those too, but I think you're actually doing just fine right now. I always try to keep a Joseph Zbukvic (great watercolorist btw) quote "Imply, don't state" in mind when I get the temptation to go crazy with texture. It's so hard to resist.

More anatomy scribbles. The stuff in the left is memory scribbles the rest are drawn from various references.

Oh and the way I'm making these anatomy studies is totally taken from
    Cole Eastburn.

So many great looking studies! I like the gritty brushstrokes on the screenshot studies but I also like the contrasting smooth skin on the Edelfelt-study, which looks very solid anatomy-wise too! In this armor study as well as the one you painted from head, the white highlights give them a bit flat feel, they look half-monochromatic. Try to make out some hues on the brighest spots too (or at least around them), it gives metal a lot more believability IMO.

Impressive bunch of hands too! Keep them coming!

Love Cole Eastburn too. I think the guy is really worth studying, particularly when it comes to value.

Great studies you've got in here, it shows your dedication. I'd love to see some more stuff from your imagination though, because after all that is what all these studies lead up to help in the end

boy am I tired now. I wasn't going to draw anything today but then I browsed some Bridgman and decided that I should atleast try to draw something. So more hands though I have to say I was running on autopilot.

Thanks guys for commenting. I'll reply to you in length once I have slept some.

Smuli: Chers man! Regarding those higlights. I hea ya. I have noticed more and more that pure white or pure black is pure poson to the pic. That's not to say they shouldn't be used but they should be used with care.
Actually I think my biggest mistake in the helm from imagination was the use of sort of sparkly texture on the top. It looks like plastic more than metal.
    Lesson learned...hopefully.

Ismo: Thanks! Just trying my best to finally learn to draw hands.
And yeah Eastburn is the man when it comes to values.

Forrest: Cheers. And yeah I definately need to do more stuff from imagination. too long have I been on this study route. I need to have some fun damnit!

I'm going to have to change my schedule. trying to post something everyday is great as it forces me to draw something every day...but...I'm resuming my univeristy studies next week so that's going to set some limits.
Trying to post every 3 days or so, but more than likely I'll be posting once a week. :/

But hey atleast there will be more stuff to post...atleast more than just 3 damn sketches! And even drawing these was like pulling teeth.

hi there, i really like those armour studies, good way to learn local colour and texture. Anyway i think some posemaniacs could be useful, a series of 30-45 would nicely add to anatomy learning

And thankyou for suggestion. I Know posemaniacs. Great site. Used to visit it regularly though more recently I have found that http://lovecastle.org/draw/ is somewhat more useful for gesture studies,

Anatomy scribbles. Pelvis stuff is from Jeno Barcsay book. The rest is from head.

edit: just added...well I'm not quite sure what it is...some sort of creature thing.
