    Ville's Sketchbook: C&C greatly apreciated

*Hopefully I'm not double posting. Tried to post this earlier but there was a clitch and apparently the thread wasn't posted for some reason.

*wow! a triple posting. crap. Oh well this is the thread I'm going to use. I just let admin know about the triple posting.

It starts here and now. My very own CA sketchbook. This spawned from
two revelations. the first one " wow! I really can't draw humans at
all!" and the other " Wow! I really don't understand colors!". After
realising those two things I have been furiously trying to paint/draw
the suck out. We shall see here how that works out.

I'll try to post stuff regularly.
Please help me to get better. Leave comments and critiques. they will
    be greatly appreciated!

So here it goes. Few studies I did yesterday and day before that.

Decided to participate to this weeks CHOW, zodiac warrior. Chose Aries and here's my initial idea for it. Quite like it at the moment which means I probably hate it later. :'D

    Ismo: likewise.
WOW! I just checked your sketchbook and was totally blown away! Especially some of those environment pieces! Just fantastic!

Neat studies. One thing I may suggest is working more on material definition. Makes stuff look way better (obviously)! Keep up the good work.

Thanks! And thanks for the comment.
What do you mean by material definition? You mean like defining shapes better or to pay more attention at rendering surfaces of the different materials?

I mean the surfaces of different materials. Not that what you're doing is very off, but a little more attention could make a difference. Just a step towards a more realistic painting.

ah ok, I get what you mean. With these quick studies I actually try to avoid going with detail beacuse I'm a tinkerer. I love details and I'm afraid that if I start to do extra detailed stuff, there will be no end to it, and before I notice the whole day has gone by.

    Exon: thankyou! And I will.

Another ref study. This one is from a absolutely gorgeous photograph I found from national geograpgic website. I just stared at the photo in awe and in the end just had to make quick painting of it. Nature is awesome I tells ya.
It's rough painting but I fell like I learned quite a bit while making it, so I'm happy.

I'm allive! barely. I got some super sculpey and well...kinda went crazy.
So I have not been slacking off, honest! I Just swithched a medium a bit.
Will probably post some photos once I manage to take some.

Comission work in progress. Specific request was to make it look more like an illustration than a simple realistic copy of the photo.

todays warmup. The gentlemen on the top of the page from left to right are Edward drinker Cope and Joseph leidy. Both are famous paleontologists.
Rest are just random scribbles from memory. Drawing human heads is still like pulling teeth while stabbing oneself in the knee with rusty fork.

I like your artwork a lot, especially the reptiles. The mountain studies seem fun, and I think I'm going to do something like that myself soon.

Nice job. Keep working at that anatomy stuff; it'll come soon enough. ^_^

Really nice stuff suomi poika. I know that this is your "human" drawing thread, but you really should also post your dino pics. Especially the Banji speed portrait is mighty cool. Keep working hard mate.

    Placeboast: kiitos!
There will be dinosaurs, don't you worry, I guarantee it.

    Satupeikko: kiitoksia!

More studies. The first one is that old man from the 'name of the rose' movie. this one is the third incarnation of this particular study and I'm going to start over once more. I just can't seem to get it right.

The stuff in the sketchbook page are from imagination.
