Another lame sketch, maybe i'll turn it into something later...
Some people have been requesting pencil sketches from, well I told them that the paper I had was too large. The good news is that I can can do it, the bad news is that the scans are terrible. I had to crop and adjust things. These were done a long time ago and one of the portraits is incomplete. So now when I get a new sketchbook I will upload more. Thanks for everyone's support.
Oh yeah, another crap painting

Thanks for the comment on my sb. I remember seeing this thread before, i really admire how clean and effective all your work is. I'd love to see more figures.
Your still life studies are great! Your faces are coming along nicely too. On the colored portrait on post #33 I feel it's too airbrushy, I'd suggest adding some hard edged shadows.

Nice job. Looks like you're sorting things out with light & shadow, like in this one. Post #34 was really nice too.

Really liking the light and color in your pieces.. however, on the last update, her features seem slightly misplaced (most notably her eyes) perhaps double check construction? keep it up and cheers![]()

Have not posted in a while, was working on my portfolio for art school. Today is my uncle's birthday so he wanted me to draw him a panther. I didn't want to draw it on paper cause i thought it was a waste of graphite so I painted it for him as a present and for myself as practice.
Still loving this sketchbook.
Worked on it some more, hope my uncle will like it any critiques would be nice.
Quick painting of Mordin Solus
Other than Garrus, Mordin was my favorite. Those colours are looking slightly dead though, I'm sure more saturation / brightness can go in thereNew layer > crazy colours you wouldn't expect to fit well > try to blend them in to make them work.
I got a new monitor so I can see stuff better, and here is a pear.
Its crunch time, I need to put together a portfolio if I ever want to get a scholarship for art school. Do you think they'll give me any scholarships or is my work not good enough?
Anyway here is a hand study I gave up on, don't why I would try and paint light this bright but I might go back to it later but I need to move on to more stuff.
Another unfinished study, actually this was focusing on the skin colors
Another still life study, I wish I could update more but I've been trying to get into art school. Can someone please tell me if I'm good enough to get in, I'm working as hard as I can and a little motivation would help.
I will try to scan some stuff but my scanner sucks but i'll try
wI like your studies, especially the marvel stuff!
Another unfinishes hand study
Fantastic studies! I want to see some fantastic finished pieces!
He who has a why to live can bear almost any how.
Nice tonenality.
The vase's ear is a bit out of perspective. really nice rendering and color use on it though.
Keep it up.

It depends on the school, and what type of degree you want. Fine Art and or Illustration is probably the most open-ended of the degree concentrations. If you are going into Animation, Industrial Design, or more specific concentrations, your portfolio will have to contain samples from that specific area.
From what I've seen here, Fine Art/Illustration is probably your best bet. You can always transfer to other degree programs after you build up an appropriate portfolio for that area of study.
Scholarships are pretty unique to each school. It depends on a variety of things, including the how many scholarships are available, and how much money they have that semester for them.
Scholarships are given by a review board (usually faculty and department heads) and are based on technical merit as well as the opinions of the board
members themselves.
That being said, nothing ventured, nothing gained:You'll just have to get out there and do it. Put out those applications...get together a portfolio, and go for it.
Don't get discouraged if you aren't accepted. Try going to a state or community college first. You can take some classes, and build up a stronger portfolio. Plus you'll have the counsel of the instructors there, for such things as, what to include in your portfolio, etc.
Hope that helps!

haven't posted in a while, I got a new phone that takes pretty good pictures so now I think I can upload my pencil sketches. This is my first study with charcoal and it looks terrible. I had to crop some stuff cause it had notes all over it about how bad it was.
and another trying to test things out with the camera
Haven't been posting a lot, been thinking, drawing, and thinking. I've been accepted to SCAD but thats a lot of money just to go there. So... I don't know, I got some small scholarships but that won't really help. Well anyway, I've been using the camera on my phone to transfer my pencil sketches into photoshop to paint them so heres some sketches of the same character. I need to practice hair and other things.![]()
Your studies look really good! I really like your brush strokes too - you give stuff a really nice texture. In that last piece you posted her eyes look slightly out of place - perhaps the irises or the eyes are too small? Love her skin though! Keep on posting - looks like this is gonna be an awesome sketchbook!
Please drop by my sketchbook and help me improve!
Thanks, i'm still trying to practice things, here is a facial study im trying to finish didn't care too much about the skin colors just trying to nail the proportions of her face correctly. Sorry if I don't post a lot I don't just practice on the computer all day. I don't want to just do things super fast I take some time to think about my drawings about paintings to make sure of some things. -__-
