Ramalooke Thanks dude, glad you think so. Your right, i get too exited with the soft round. Finding the balance between hard and soft is prity tough =/ I think that muddyness comes from that.
Thanks once again dude, your crits are always helpful and well appreciated.

    some scraps
pencils - been doing alot of these but its mainly from other artists and stuff so i'll leave them.

Don't get me wrong. I use soft round for 90% of the painting. But i think you use to big strokes.

ramalooke Indeed. I probably just need to learn how to paint =p. Be careful about how much you use the soft round, or you could end up with the same mistake as me. Then again, i guess everyone has their own methods and stuff so i could just be chatting out of my ass. Maybe try some paintings without it to see how you get on, learning sometimes comes in unexpected places.

My computer is acting up and photoshop keeps crashing, maybe time for a new PC.

WOW. It's been way too long since I dropped by. It looks like you've improved just over the last month! Your pencils are getting a lot more confident, and your anatomy studies are looking marvelous (were some of those Loomis studies?).

Also, I'm really impressed by your color variation in your paintings--it looks great! Do you start out with a black-and-white underpainting and add color on top of it, or do you just go straight into color?

meps Hey man! Thanks for stopping by again, yeah Loomis stuff never seems to get old. Him and Hampton are my favourite.
Colours are something ive been trying to work on for a while and i do both black and white underpainting and straight to colour. a good tip is to use the rectangle tool and pull it over your painting, set it to black and put the layer mode to colour. This will give you a black and white version while you work to get the best of both worlds. Thanks again for stopping by

kigard Thanks man, glad you like

Photoshop failing so not as much to show =(

Hey man, nice stuff. You have nice form and the colour on your digital is nice too. The main thing I see is that your heads tend to be large on your figures someone has probably already said. Obviously anatomy studies which youre doing will help but I think maybe its happening also because youre wanting to draw a reasonable face which would be difficult in a smaller space so you blow them up, try drawing larger figures and see if it helps this.

The pencil faces are great and improvement is clearly visible.
You are figuring out more and more your digital material
rendering, you just take it easy. I feel proud now.
And throw in a few black and white paintings,
    to reinforce your value understandings.
    Take care and be strong.

Just read through your sketchbook and the amount of output and learning in a bit over year is incredible... Makes me want to beat myself for laziness, which is always very good!

Good portraits and figures! On the color sketches, I agree with Ramalooke that you should take it easy with the soft round brush. Seems like you've already steered away from it on the last updates though. On some of your older sketches, there's some brushwork I really like:
-Don't know what brush settings you used but I like the fluid and efficient feel on some of the really old SPs like 1, 2 and 3
-great values, colors and edges and overall finishing treatment on this one
-love the smooth and effotless looking brushing on this study

This COW entry is another piece that I really like, the mood, composition and fish design work like a charm!

On some of the figures, the arms look a bit short and something about the neck/shoulder area looks weird (like trapezius a tad too prominent and necks too short on some women). Remember that women's necks are thinner and straighter than men's. On this painting, the legs are huge but apart from that, I really like the pose and outfit design. The newest character looks great too.

Your hard work is surely paying off, keep this sketchbook growing!

That environment is blowing me away. Your figure studies are continuing to improve, and your studies of different materials (metals, etc.) are great--I can't wait to see how those progress.

As far as your figures go, I'm finding them increasingly hard to critique XD There are a few places where the size of the head seems too large with regard to the body, but you seem to have recognized when you did that and I don't notice it in any of your most recent posts.

LtPlissken Thanks alot man, your support makes me want to work harder!

smuli wow, thats a really helpful comment, thanks alot dude! I agree with everthing you say, and i'll work to improve on the things you mentioned and to keep the sketchbook going. Thanks again

Meps Hey man! I'm glad you like, i guess i must be doing something right, which is good to know because sometimes it just feels like i'm hitting my head against a wall. ;p I'll keep going, and hopefully improve further, thanks alot for your constant encouragement and support, it means alot.

ramalooke Right again, i'll try to focus on that once i get photoshop back. Colour is just so dam scary, it freaks the shit out of me, so i desaturate everything ;p (thanks again for the crit, there always helpful and appreciated.)

So my computer i paint with finally died, in a manner of speaking, so ive got about 2-3 weeks without photoshop. Sooooo, its time to hit the pencils in the face while i wait, heres some, sorry about the shitty quality, im having problems with the scanning process.

the last things i painted before my computer failed. Ironic that the first and last things to be painted on this computer happened to be self potraits

Guardian G.I. I was working off a laptop which was about 8 years old and wasnt all that powerful. Eventually began to lagg after every 10-15 minutes of working and would crash randomly and force itself to restart. I should have upgraded alot sooner than i did. Cheers for popping by again

    What da fuck? Another update?
Just a character thing i'm calling done, ive been trying to loosen up abit with maeks and rendering and stuff. Need more practice.

Guardian G.I I'm told i'm abit self critical, but i still feel i suck. When i'm able to get work or substain myself from this (if that ever happens) i might have abit more confidence in my ability. Cheers again for stopping by

Well as of next week, i'll be working full time in my crappy job. The moment i complained about has finally arrived, and i'm out of time. So i guess i sort of failed...

I'll probably still update if i have time but i won't be able to do as much stuff or studies. We'll see how it goes, it just kinda sucks to have tried so hard for over a year only to be set back like this.

Wow, amazing. I couldn't have given any better advice about the head sizes towards the top of this page; I was literally thinking the same thing and when I read that comment stating it, I smiled warmly inside
