I'm a bit of an addict for good construction studies, so your page is kinda like getting a fix for me, ha. Super good shit, sir, I'll be back to check out more updates from you.
nice!
in self portraits like that (or in any type of observation drawing really) it can be VERY helpful if, once the lines are finished, you take a break and then look at it with fresh eyes. then re-do exactly the same picture, but fixing the mistakes. think about it. 2 or 3 iterations and you are likely to have something very very close to being completely accurate, and think how much it'll help when you start doing accurate regularly?(and of course, during these exercises, only do the lines, not the values).
dude do some gesture, really helpful.
good studies,on that self portrait there are defintely measuring issues, find a measuring system that works for you and practice it-seperately from construction and in tandem.
you are working hard,it will pay off.

Yeah man! It's great to have you back in full swing
Awesome how hard you're fighting. Heads / Faces and Skulls are WAY harder than hands in my opinion.
I'm also struggling pretty bad with this kinda stuff.
I think it's just a matter of toughness and repetition.
You're really on a good track there. Not before long, your faces will kick ass!
I really love your free imaginary works, they really show that you're having a lot of fun while drawing.
Hey buddy, Nice to see back and active! Anyway onto a critique!I feel as though you seem to construct things very well and have a good ability to portray form as well combine them. The only issue is that it fails to convince. The thing is nature is random and you need to get a feel of the finer details of things. The best way to do it is through contour exercises, it will teach you to see and notice the more subtle details as well as all those humps and bumps. If you've done an old master study from da vinci or any other one of the old masters you could see that the portraits they had were not full on solid geometrical constructions. In there works they have these natural randomness as well being able to draw what they really see(I guess it was because back then they did not really use any form of constructive method and instead used contours, with time and experience though any really experienced artist can immediately start with contours) so I guess you could try one of those cross contour exercises as well as contour exercises to really get a feel of the objects you draw.

Well, haven't draw much these days..i have been diagnosed with high blood pressure (hypertension)
had to do other stuff.. but, i started to do painting studies..
MrFrenik: Hah, thanks man, glad to hear that.
aks9: Yeah, i will for sure try what you've sad and really thanks for the long word in your sb, really really appreciate it!
Yemi775: They'r everywhere!
GrayPersona: Yep, step by step i'll be there someday
ecki: Yep, repetition is mother of skill, never is enough!![]()
Learn the proportions of the skull, draw some skulls and use the proportions system to make the brain remember something from the proportions, when you feel more confrontable, move forward to proportions of face, it's bit different and myself i had bad times because the propotions were mixing/layering in my head so many times i went to point, where i wasn't anymore sure if the propotion of some point is right because i didnt know if it's from the skull or face, soooo many many times i had to open the book and check them both and refresh what i already known but wasn't sure, this happens mainly when you do propotion study, and next day you do something different and you dont even think about the proportions, third day you come back to propotion study and you ain't sure anymore if you try only from mind. Because of this, i made this <-click template for propotions, download, print it and go, it's similiar to what you sad to me about the photos and retrace the skull over them from mind a so..btw drawing from mind is megapain for me..
kamikazel33t: Right, also i found on cgtalk.com a great thread where is link and similiar stuff for old master drawings and method to study them, etc.. definetely gona do that soon.
Cheers guys!

Damn! Your proportion studies are thorough, reminds me I should be doing more of those too! You are doing a great job and starting to paint is going to make you improve even faster, don't be scared also to try some colour still*life studies, they are a great training!. Going to go do some pencil exercises as yours, because they really look crazy useful!
Herionz: Thanks, naaah, they'r weak in my opinion, as with everythingbut thanks.. and yeaah, print some, refresh your memory by applying proportions from your mind, otherwise you can also make them in illustrator pretty fast, depends on subject you want to train. It's also good to have them anywhere with ya just for fun
Btw i hope so!

Joe777k7: Im busy :/ Have plenty stuff to scan but im keeping it for later (lazzy to scan) I was also learning zbrush, but after some experiments i realized that anatomy is very needed, so i have to first learn the anatomy and then start to sculptdigi update wip, no traditional.

Keep going man, the figures and value studies are looking great. Remember to look for the larger value groups, eg the facehugger's legs are all in shadow (they're getting lots of bounce, or a less intense fill light), you've gone a bit too bright there. If in doubt, squint![]()
wow! such hard work and determination is certainly paying off! great stuff man, keep pushing, and keep going, heaps proud of you!

hey eclip-se!
dang, that sounds terrible about the hypertension. i hope you find a way to get yourself back to health!
I took at look at one of your paintings on live stream, and thought I'd try and give some helpful/encouraging tips based on what i saw
I just want to give a tip on blocking on your paintings that should hopefully be helpfully helpful: try to block in using a solid brush without opacity, and fix yourself on just 3 values. the problem with using opacity brushes is that it can start to get confusing real quick, as it adds tons of values and means that in some sense, the painting is in various stages all the time, and it can be hard to do a proper block in. think about it: with just a solid black and solid white, its possible to do a really neat block in of the main forms. this is real important to start with! and having just 2 or 3 simple solid values makes it much easier to measure angles, alignments, proportions, and get that block in solid and great.
also, interesting idea with printing out that sheet for the skull studies. im curious to know how that goes for you!
i had some difficulty at the beginning with that kind of thing. something thats started helping me recently with remembering proportions is to practice seeing them when looking at photographs or at actual people/life-drawing. seeing it in real time and getting a proper look at what "real" proportions are, and how well they match up with book stuff, is invaluable.
hope that helps, looking forward to an update soon pal
ps. can you post the cgtalk link on master studies?
Don’t worry and relax, breath deep think about naked females, paint more
breasts, and your hypertension should pretty quick go away. Just relax and
don’t let yourself go upset. As everyone can see, you have been working hard,
and your improvements are shining too obvious, I like the way you are mastering
values, and how you are handling curves and outlines in general. You are a
wonder born on this sandy earth of sorrow. You bring us light and eternal
sunshine. Now is the time for you to start doing more paintings and to post
more, cause big happy future is what smiles on us for sure.
