BETTER THINGS: The Life & Choices of Jeffrey Catherine Jones

Come on guys help get this kickstarted!

    About this project
The documentary features not only comic book artists but other comics industry professionals as well. Jones’s life and work are the highlights, but the effects of art — on an individual, on society, and as a business — are also discussed. How important and influential is art? Can it really save a person’s life, as its practitioners claim? How did it evolve from pure decoration to a commercial commodity? All of these questions will be examined as we explore the world of Jeffrey Jones. The story of art is, in the end, the story of artists, and the whole can also be seen in its parts.

Yeah, but this is more of a legit project, methinks.

"Contrary to the belief of the layman, the essential of art is not to imitate nature, but under the guise of imitation to stir up excitement with pure plastic elements: measurements, directions, ornaments, lights, values, colors, substances, divided and organized according to the injunctions of natural laws. While so occupied, the artist never ceases to be subservient to nature, but instead of imitating the incidents in a paltry way, he imitates the laws."-Andre Lhote

Thanks for posting this up, I have been following this documentary for what seems like a long time now and can't wait to see it finished.

I buy indie videogames that I don't even have time to play to support the cool projects that people are a part of. I will definitely toss a few bucks into this to make sure it can get done, and done right.

The Jeffrey Jones sketchbook with the interview by George Pratt was one of the most honest and enlightening books/interviews I have read to this day. Definitely check it out if you can find it.

It's pretty legit and has quite some big name backers behind it already.

This is certainly a legit project; A film that centers around the individual that Frank Frazetta referred to as "The Greatest Living Painter," with interviews and commentaries by folks like Rick Berry, Mike Kaluta, and Rebecca Guay? Yes, please.

Jeffrey Catherine Jones has been hugely influential to the illustration and art world as a whole, and I have my fingers crossed that this movie, which looks like it dabbles into the things I love and hold dear as an artist, gets made.

I've already thrown in my pledge, and have a movie poster and dvd reserved because of it!

You can't, because he asked that his post be deleted. Which you may end up wanting to do as well.

This is really legit and if it doesn't meet the goals by the time appointed, the pledges are refunded. So it's a win-this isn't as cool but I guess I get to keep my money situation.

There should at least be a explanation for why you would want to close this thread. I'm sorry but I kind of find it hard to believe that there would be such skepticism.

Nobody wants to close this thread. My replywas to CaW, for his jump-the-gun reaction. Unlike the person he was referring to, this is exactly how kickstarter should be used.

My apologies for speaking out of turn folks.

    Hey Kids,

More info on this project can be found here: http://macabfilms.wordpress.com/

There are two extended clips from the film on there. Everyone on this board should see them. The list of people being interviewed for this project is just staggering. Moebius, Gaiman, Mignola, Wrightson and so on.

This film is one of those things that the CA.org community could probably fund in its entirety!

Regardless of her work's similarity to Frazetta's, I'm quite a fan of her artwork.

To all you generous friends and strangers, your support has been awesome and much appreciated.

However, I probably wouldn't meet my funding goal, and so I thought I'd update everyone and thank you in advance.

To those who still want to help, you may go to paypal ([email protected])

I am still working on the movie, will keep on working as hard as I could, and it will be done this year. I promise.

    Thank you for your kindness!

    Sincerely,
    Maria Cabardo

Why exactly do they need $15,000 to create their film? Certainly decent documentaries have been created on a smaller budget.

Hmmm... Lots of footage to edit? It's in post-production. I dunno.

Eh - wut? There's just as much Whistler, NC Wyeth, and Klimt influence in there. But really its long-since been all Jones. And I can verify that, as Jeffrey Jones told me himself, some years ago, that he no longer felt any influence from anybody and he was just making art that reflected his own soul and personality.

More shameless bumping brought to you by your favorite otaku farthead turnip.

The Kickstarter thing has ended. Check your emails. If you pledged, it probably got canceled. Refer to the previous post: "To those who still want to help, you may go to paypal ([email protected])".

Hi guys, just bumping this up to let you know that Better Things is complete!

    http://www.indiegogo.com/BetterThings

The kickstarter didn't go through however, so Maria pulled in a lot of favors to get the film done which she's now trying to repay with another round of funding. The funding will also go towards getting distribution for the film at festivals.

Please help! There's a lot of cool swag available at different tiers, and it's exciting to see the film this close to seeing the light of day.
It's got to be more than a memory, or is life just a fantasy and a piss in the sand?
