Making anatomy cry, learning stuff (=

    Hi ConceptArt. (=

Short: 21 (22 now), working in gamedev as an object artist, training to become a better one.

I've been drawing since the «pre-first grade», although looking on the thing as something to make living on seemed clearly too scary. But after all I've took the decision on applying to the Moscow State Architectural in 2013. So my guess if it's going to be «stick with things that smell fun if you breathe in for some time» then a lot of work is called for — in all areas, styles and formats.

I aim on the desing as a concept — game design, to be specific: levels, items, environments — all the stuff used to connect one's mind to the imaginary world. I like the feeling of responsibility over everything you present to someone and want to impress and tell people stories with my pixels — this is the point.

Looking back at my drawing story, especially regarding the human anatomy, I must say everything below the neck has been a no man's land to me. So the first clue was to grab Loomis and get it off right away, long story short.

I'll post a dæmon-thing as a header since people here tend to like them, heh

Pixels incoming. Firstly, moleskine location design notes; secondly, other various scribblings.

Brb with Loomis studies later today.

Loomis. Proportions, 50 men plus 100 mannequin doodles not worth showing. Going for 100 mannequins \ day + life drawings + some enviros. Need to make 50 female figures as well.

Damn, 100 figures? great devotion dude. The female face looks a little masculine though. Generally the curves of the chin are less angular. The profile looks pretty good though

Ghast, thanks, we can never have enough time.

Falling behind on ~150 mannequins atm, gotta catch it up tomorrow. Putting up some older work.

Frustrated with Loomis mannequins, want to study some form. Sketching in the subway is tricky, since you feel like making omelet without breaking eggs while being launched to the geostationary orbit in a shuttle with no fastened seatbelts.

not to sound offensive but stop the digital stuff i mean the line sketches are good but MAN your real life pencil stuff is SO sexy.

I really would like to see more pencil stuff! how do you hatch like that??? its incredible!

the pencil stuff seriously blows me away.
THESE are just flat out impressive... do more stuff like this please!!!

    this and this

if you could apply your pencil technique to more accurate and complex drawings i think that would be amazing.
the anatomy in one of them isnt so great, but i can see that is an old drawing and youve improved since .....your new anatomy is MUCh better but the gradients in that one are oh so nice

    Dvergur, merci!

Sporus, thanks, I'll do some anatomy studies in pencil, promise. =P

As for today, +200 poses, several enviros and a quasi-female horror.

Hey man, great energy and nice start to your book.

I really liked the sense of light and volume in this one, great job.

I would say... hold off on doing those Loomis "templates" and do his other drawings, instead. There's more to learn from them,IMO... at least that's what I find. Drawing the template will make you better at drawing a stiff template; but drawing figures in real poses will lead your mind around in the same problem-solving ways that Loomis used to devise those drawings. You'll see how he foreshortened something, how he used a lighter line somewhere, where he dissolved a line into the background, feel the volumes of the body, etc.

But by all means, draw 100 mannequins from your mind, if you can do that, per day You'll be killing all of us in a short time with that

Been thinking a lot for last 2 weeks. Kind of disoriented at where to go (to which job) now and what to learn. Focusing on anatomy (skeleton), specifically — shoulders, arms, bum (-8, legs (knees!).

DeviantArt doesn't provide a whole great bunch of people to look at and get skilled, lots of beginners there (well, I'm just mega-idealistic). I want to understand illustration fully, but yet lack lots of conceptions. Although, refuse to follow non-explained points blindly.

your line work is quite stunning!, you still have a lot to work on, like some of your figures still look quite stiff and you still haven't quite caught the face structure though, keeo it coming, you're doing it right!

should really work more. figured out the pelvis and the spine construction, and I really hate the upcoming pose exercises. but I'll make it, ppl good luck in art to all you out there as well!

also, I cut my hand on the moleskine the day before yesterday (this explaining the dried red in it) ))) art demands sacrifice! ))

Great job on those gestures! I see the anatomy in your last posts improving like crazy Posemaniancs is great, tho sometimes the poses are stiff. I find it better to draw from pictures (or sites that host photos of models like quickposes.com), they have different body types and all natural poses.

ps: That helmet/gas mask in post 27 has awesome values, keep it up
