    chimico's sketchbook

i'm Carlo, 18 and i live in rome.
i was 13 when i decided to get good at drawing, i already knew this place, and through these years i’ve made quite a progress.
but now 2011 has just begun and i feel like it’s time for a change. i’ve got to work way harder ‘cause i feel this is no joke: this will be my future.

here is the last stuff i’ve made. they’re from imagination – that is something i suck at.
it seems i can’t make a digital drawing look finished... but the last one is a pencil sketch. 1 hour each, many hours on the colored one
and please crit and be harsh

If you want improve on your digital stuff, consider using hard brushes when the opportunity arises. Of course, your pencilwork is great by the way.

thank you FightingSeraph. it's true, i learn something every time i use a different brush. i'll follow your advice.

30 second drawings. these are way too hard to finish.

    right after them,
the telescope one is something digital, from imagination. i feel comfortable with such a w/b style, but it's useless if your drawing is meant to be colored. not proud of it, he looks nice but somehow wrong and out of proportion.
and then a fail at a random life drawing. the actual green stuff was damn interesting! but i'll practise on something easier next time.

    yeah i'm so late.
watercolour/ecoline, representing piazza navona in rome, from a photography by giancarlo gasponi.
and the other one is from imagination. it still looks pretty unfinished.

    thank you for the encouragement.

my computer has problems, so i've focused on handrawing meanwhile.
they've all been copied: for the first two i've searched for "old photos" on google.
and this morning i've visited random churches and these were some statues. i'd forgot my sketchbook, that's why the paper sucks.

I found that last oil painting great , I also notice that some of your statues drawing haS short legs I Guess you should Draw your construction lines before and make sure that everything lines up (check and recheck) then you move to the details.
keep it up and don't give up

I think the very first sketch of this sb you drew from mind are just great! you understand a lot of important things about anatomy and light.
Yet, I noticed the legs are too short, especially on the last study. remember this: the crotch is half of the whole height

@Twan thanks a lot! you've made me want to do more drawings from mind. with better proportions.
and, since you've asked me, no, i don't go to an art school, i hope this kind of advice will be my school

    from imagination:

your life drawing has really improved over the past few months. Your studies are definitely paying off.
And the colours in your oil work are really good. I think you should try to incorporate those rich colours in your digital work, because you tend to work a little washed out when you work digitally.
    Happy sketching

thank you Rhubix. it feels so good when they recognize your improvement : )

i think i'll remove those faces and bring it back to the 5 characters in the foreground.
the setting is just some temporary doodle.

Dude, I am obsessed with your portrait drawings! your line work is crazy amazing!!
The very last drawing posted on here reminds me of Sara Pichelli who is my favorite line artist so i'm pretty envious of you right now, lol
and those oil painting studies of Domenico Morelli were great too
I really hope you decide to post more

Hi, i'm back after a looong time.
Caleb-Brown, your comment made my day ^ ^
sorry if i noticed it so damn late, it was quite motivational anyway!

    So here's the latest stuff:
The 1st one is quite an improvement in terms of digital painting, i think. The design sucks. Why
would he ever need a gun in his hand since his arm itself is a weapon? ._.
    Then there are prototypes of illustrations for a tale a friend wrote;
some kind of sci-fi man that manages to steal design ideas from like a hundred existing games - i didn't mean it >_>, and pencil sketches from photographs and imagination.
i like the blue chickens in the background, truly.
