Hi! I've been wanting to get more involved in this community for a while, instead of just lurking like always, and I think a Sketchbook is a good place to actively start with what time I have. I'm within a year ish of graduating college with a graphic design degree, and also working full time as an artist for a slot machine company, so I'm trying to get back into sketching more with my free time since I can't post anything from work.

So I'll slowly work through what I already have, and get to updating current things and more abundant sketches.
I don't mind if anyone wants to red-line my images as a critique. :]

Yup! I'm involved in all of the game art with 2 other people Concepts and finals for the interface, symbols, bonuses, then all the post-production, all that jazz. I'm still quite new to it but it's fun!

I do indeed like drawing animals, probably because they're the very first thing I started out drawing. I've definitely grown far more attached to drawing people over the past years, but the tiger illustrations happen to be my most recent finished pieces as an elemental series for a class :]

Though I absolutely agree I need to break out those nudie magazines..And SOON!

LtPlissken - Thank you! Ahh I've definitely seen that book, though I can't remember if I have one myself or if I've seen it recently elsewhere... hehe. I have a pretty massive book collection growing at home, and at work everyone's brought in portions of their collections as well.

teapo - It's from a reference, though I tried to leave myself free exaggerate a little and just enjoy the drawing, rather than constrain myself to trying to copy every little detail exactly. My boss recently pointed out that I have a habit of doing that, and I'm noticing it actually does make my drawings look stiffer. So I'm attempting to draw with more gesture and exaggeration/expression now

I drew a ridiculous looking little hawk last night, and I intend to draw some hands soon as well... I get so antsy for only a couple hours of free time to draw in the evenings hahah

About your work; I love the white tiger drawings. hey show that you have a very good imagination. The girl in the post #1 is super cute ! good job there.

Well i got no much crits for now but i think you should do more anatomy studies (both human and animals) because they will help you to do some impressive drawings just from your imagination. so here goes some useful books im already referring.

devastacio - Thank you for visiting! I love trying to study the anatomy of anything, so any more of it is welcome in my book for sure haha. I keep hearing more about Loomis lately, so I'm definitely getting more interested in finding me a book of his!

I've been trying to get in more sketches at work and post-work... we have a little downtime lately so I've been able to draw a little bit on the side :] Not as much as I'd like though, as always.

I still really want to finish up detailing the outfit on one of my girl sketches, using a gigantic fashion reference book I have for way back when. Just haven't had time to sit with my giant book yet

I have this itch lately to go out and buy drawing pencils, after using this red one so often now. I feel like using my mechanical pencils is a negative thing, though I'm not sure why. But good god do they smear...

I have found that mechanical pencils restrict the range of marks you make because of the way their leads are shaped. Not to say that they are 'bad', they can be very useful for detail work, but buying wooden pencils is a good choice.

I have always liked the Staedtler 2B-6B range of blue drawing pencils, if you are planning on getting some. Someone gave me a set of Lyra 'Art Design' pencils. Weren't soft or dark enough for me - the Lyra 3B felt like a Staedtler B, for example.

krysjez - From using them for a while now, I definitely agree. In fact, I think I originally switched to mechanical pencils in part because I tend to go nuts for details and probably figured they would be beneficial. But yes, since the lead is so thin and so dark, smooth shading really doesn't happen easily, and varying weight in each line doesn't happen too naturally. I just have to get my butt to an art store... I'd really like to find just one kind of pencil to use regularly. I don't really like the idea of having to switch between 10 different pencils depending on how dark I want my sketch to be.

Sadly I didn't do as much sketching in the past few days as I expected, and probably should have done. Today would have been an excellent day to, but I spent the morning in a web design class and the better part of the afternoon attempting to design myself a more official website The day is still young though! I'm hoping to get some sketches in tonight still, and most definitely tomorrow.

For the moment I just tried to add some clothes to my earlier lady sketch, and the second will likely be turned into a random poster.
The ropes entirely don't match the image I feel... while disappointing, I guess it's not too surprising since I improvised them.
I only used simple, vague lines because I intend to make them just white lines and outlines on a dark background in Illustrator. Maybe try to establish a little bit of a frosty look somehow, like frost on her eyelashes and lips. All from watching the movie Frozen on Netflix last night haha :] It's given me a new fear of ski lifts...

Attempting to color the one sketch.. I seem to have such a huge issue with colors. They're always so bland.. due to a lot of things, including a weakness at proper contrast and saturation control. I have much studying in my future

The color difference between my monitor and my cintiq is a little annoying as well... the colors are even more saturated than I thought when I was painting. I'll have to have an extra copy open on my normal monitor to compare to

I recommend doing some paintings that are just light and shadow without the lines, since those kinds of studies have been a big help to me so far.

Ultarant - Good idea! I'll try to give it a shot! :] I actually don't know why I haven't before this... I guess I have a fear of my image ending up too unfocused without lines All the more reason! Gotta do some object studies like this that have good lighting.

no!! don't stop there-- finish coloring her and yes, make the investment of buying the drawing pencils u mentioned! though, the red pencil is a bit out of the ordinary so maybe it makes your sketches more unique :3

Ultarant - Thanks! I really want to use lighting more effectively...especially rim lighting. I have a thing for it... but I just can't achieve it the way I want to.

SWeePs - Yup! References used (except for the cartoony, self portrait with the Cintiq sketch haha, but I've been trying more often to exaggerate features and improvise a little stylization, so I suppose that part could be said is from imagination. Specifically in the last few sketches.. not quite a 'free' as a speed paint, but I didn't spend hours upon hours on them haha

teapo - Bahhhhhh I'm so ADD with my digital paintings... it's like I have a time limit before I get bored of it and want to start something new! I did buy some pencils, though I'm still definitely attached to the colored ones :] They feel soooo much smoother...those mastermind Prismacolor people.

I was going to sketch today... but then I went to a life drawing workshop after work, and then sushi, and I must sleep like...now... to start the day all over at 7 am, so sketching didn't quite happen like I wanted hehehe. I suppose I should upload my life drawing sketches.. though I was more frustrated than pleased with the results, I was so rusty. I was so pressure with 1-2 min gestures! Got spoiled with being able to take my time with sketching on my own time...
Just got to find time to take pictures/scan in a few of the sketches for tonight. Alas, we didn't stay long enough for the 12 minute poses.

Bahhh....got a wee bit busy so I haven't been able to do much to add on here other than what I had from the last time I posted hahah. School started kicking into gear...and while it's a pretty easy quarter overall so far, I do have to make 2 websites. Pretty easy task for a lot of people, but I'm in Graphic Design and we're really not expected to ever deal with web design, so I'm a wee bit under-taught and unprepared haha. So I've been spending a lot of time studying a particular site's code to apply it somehow to mine

But hey, I draw every day for 8 hours at work, so I can't feel toooooo guilty for taking time out of art to finish up at this god forsaken school. Such a bummer I can't post anything from work That is, until the games are 100% done and I can put them in my portfolio.

Hi! Such happy, smiley, colourful drawings - absolutely captivating, to my mind! Really
nice that you are taking time to do practices outside of work. One thing I did notice, is
that you draw beautiful faces, but the expressions are a little bit stiff - would be great to
see more your sketches and such of real life models.

I totally agree, I would love to start working on expressions :] I just need to find me some good references! Do you have any suggestions? Deviantart will most likely be my go-to to find some, unless I can find some movie screen caps or perhaps see if I have an animation expression reference book still. I vaguely remember getting one...
It's embarrassing to be so exhausted every day after work.. I really need to push myself harder to sketch in my free time. My final push to graduate from college is coming up as well, so that's going to make it an even bigger challenge!
