Great stuff!!Clearly , you've got a great understanding on the whole photoshop buziness.I think u should draw some more faces though.Really get into their proportions , draw individual parts of the face ( nose ,lips ,etc).I bet u've done that , but u need them really locked in.Don't paint them though , that tends to be slower , and u lose the point of the exercise , since u accidentally start to learn different stuff.Find books on the matter ( Bridgman , Loomis reaaaaally helps a lot ) , draw from reference , etc...
I bet i'm not saying anything new.
P.S. OH MY GOD GREAT WORK SO FAR!!!

    Hey!hi.

First off your characters are great! Definitely your strongest suit when it comes to both design and rendering. That being said you should expand into and work on environments or robots or creatures or something. It can really add to your ability to create an illustration. (I see that you're doing a bit already, but DO MORE.)

I think your traditional needs some work though in comparison to your digitals. Try to make sure you have a really accurate drawing before you go into using any paint or rendering with pencil. Check the proportions/perspective etc. For example your male figure is really well rendered but the head looks a bit too big compared to the body and it throws the whole drawing off. Another example is your vase painting, make sure all of the ellipses line up with the perspective and "look right" before going into using any paint.

In addition, make sure that next time on your figure drawings you work large and are able to use your whole arm in the drawing. Some of them are looking small/wrist-movements. It looks like that your figure drawings are from photos..?(I think, correct me if I'm wrong!) Try to make it out to an actual life drawing session or have a friend pose, it really is a world of difference.

Sorry if I got a little bit too mean in some parts D:

rastaray: Thank you! And yeah, you're right. I need to draw more features individually to really get the structure down.

skMOP: Thanks! haha you weren't mean at all! I'm trying to work a bit more with creatures and robots and absolutely I have to work more traditionally. Maybe I need to force myself to do studies with paint and such instead of digitally.

Yeah I'm working in a pretty tiny sketchbook so it's tempting to use my wrist instead of my arm. I'll try to work on a bigger canvas like you suggested

Thanks again for the crit! I really appreciate it!

Here is my Bloodsport #5 entry, some figure studies, a movie still study, and a WIP. I scrapped my ice king portrait and jumped into a full-on realistic, slightly dark rendition of the cast.

An acrylic commission WIP. By far the biggest canvas I've worked on (36'' x 48''). He'll be leaning against a walking cane; that's why his body is angled like that.

MeteorCat: You really think so? Thanks! I know my traditional work is not yet comparable to my digital work so I'm glad to hear you say that!

A quick update of the painting as well as a close up on the face so far. I've been working away at it all day. Slowly but surely I will finish this monster of a painting... I'm working on a giant wooden panel -- sorry for the glare!

Hi! Cool sb...I think this is the first time I've seen it.

Great to see you working in traditional mediums...like the guy above...and this one is nicely done!

As others have said you have a good feel for light...and your figure studies...like this one...are quite good.

Bloodsport #6. Started a bit late so I'm not sure if I'll get it done by Friday.

I was going for a North American cowboy look, more like a bounty hunter of demonic creatures.

That looks Awesome!! I would suggest adding wrinckles around his eyes because
    1.He's seen some shit!
2.The conditions there are tuff on the skin.(Hard sun , strong wind etc)
3.Makes him find the more bad-ass-y look , Clint Eastwood-y style

That's about it , great job and keep 'em coming!

I think theres something off with the acrylic painting in the eyes. When you do the closeup it looks like hes looking at you but then when you zoom out they look in a different direction. Try to make them so that they read the same both ways. Big improvement though in terms of traditional painting haha

Also, have you heard of this program? I'm not sure if you're still looking but its free (except for airfare) and apparently pretty prestigious. It's the one I'll be applying to. http://sharpeartfdn.qwestoffice.net/summer1.htm

Sick drawing on the cowboy, real solid proportions. My only real critique is that the values are a bit dark. Something to consider. Keep kicking butt!

~Twig: Yeah, I was working on a different computer, and when I uploaded it to my main computer I realized it was way too dark. I hope it's better now, thank you!

Well, I obviously didn't finish the Bloodsport on time, but I at least finished the initial character concept:

I am as old as you, but you are miles ahead from me.
Your finished pieces just look delicious.
The digital rendering is really nice. Soft blending.

Keep it up and practice anatomy.

Ah, I have a website actually. I guess I've never posted it. Here we go!: Portfolio

DennisH-Art: Thanks! And don't let my age discourage you! I've actually been using Photoshop for several years now so I've had loads of practice.

KONM: haha heck yes! I always need more Adventure Time fans subscribing to my sketchbook. Thanks!

Bloodsport #7. I'm still working on this obviously but this is generally how it will end up. I want to blur everything that isn't Link or Ganon to isolate and stress the conflict between them. Advice on the comp is greatly appreciated!

    Nice stuff you have here.
I suggest to fill whole canvas with a big brush before going into detail in particular part. That should be a big boost for your images.

I really like the update but something on the archer's left arm is bugging me, I'm not sure if its in the hand or the position of the arm. Perhaps her thumb should be a bit less tense, or maybe it is supposed to be like that when someone fires an arrow. I'm no archery expert or anything so I could most definitely be wrong.

    Thanks for the portfolio link!

Verehin: Thank you! Love your work

    Sapphirelullaby: Thank you!

merl1n: Thanks! You mean like a giant textured brush? Why haven't I thought of doing that before haha thank you for the suggestion! I'll definitely keep that in mind.

    Alantyn: Thanks so much!

MeteorCat: Thank you! And yeah, I know what you mean. I relaxed the thumb a little but it still feels off. When I release arrows I keep my hand wide open and tense my fingers, but I'm definitely no expert either haha

I rendered the Big Octo fully and added some splashes for a more chaotic feel. Still need to finish rendering Zelda, some waves, and Ganon's eyes at the top.
