Draw your friends at the beach, at the bowling alley, the park, the pub. Be that guy that is always drawing. Draw on the bus, when your in the bank line, sketch whatever's around you.
Having a sketch partner is even better. Me and a friend hang out at the park or at a coffee shop once a week to sketch and compare notes- it's very motivating.
and when did I say that this means shutting oneself in a basement ? ^^

I guess I'm just projecting some of the other art hermits I know.
Basement apartments are cheaper so you don't need pesky things like roommates.

Thank you guys for the advice, I have taken it on board and am particularly working from reference and photos now, however laziness is still an issue XD

So it's been a while, and I'm starting to work on things for my art foundation portfolio, due in January. I've been trying to come up with ideas but seem to be failing to actually make final pieces. Anyway, here's the stuff:

A speedpaint I started, should finish it for tomorrow. I was inspired by shanty towns, and thought of what they'd be like with towering structures in them.

A piece I've started, don't know what the tower itself will be like yet, gonna have a bunch of chains and obviously render the lava. Also learning how to paint rocks while doing this.

EDIT: This is mad inspiring http://daarken.com/blog/2011/05/23/e...-of-an-artist/

Been a while. I've started a new sketchbook focusing on figures and concepts, starting out with gestures and timed sketches mostly at the moment. I've been using Vilppu's method to construct my figures, it's so awesome. Am I headed in the right direction?

These are some of the things I did in my older sketchbook in January/February. The abstract red lady seems to have a huge head, but that's down to the camera angle, and my laziness to take another photo. You can also see that some of the graphite pencil stuff is smudged a little, anyone have any tips for that?

I should probably also mention that it's in order, from beginning of the sketchbook to the last few pages. The famine and war horses were at the beginning of the same book.

These are from my newer sketchbook that I've started, hoping to get in to Ravensbourne foundation course since I got rejected from Camberwell.

I've been trying to work on getting my stuff more dynamic, so I've been looking at Matteli's "Force Dynamic Life Drawing for Animators".

    Cheers Stpete!

Right, I'm now doing my art foundation course, focusing on animation since they don't have actual Illustration courses. I've been going to life drawing and trying to get back into the swing of drawing every day, and actually updating this thread to keep motivation going.

Dahlium: thanks, gotta get through this shit!

Not been too productive lately, finding it quite difficult to do anything, always comes out like poop. Started out at first with a simple study without a time limit, which I wasn't happy with, then tried to focus purely on line. Went back to doing gestures to try and loosen up, and cause I wasn't happy with my stuff.

Proper update. Figures from life, and I've started a 500 gestures challenge, trying to use an ink pen instead of pencils. Also going to be practising blind contour drawings to try and improve line quality.
