Great work
aaaa you didn't take part in EOW?
looking forward to seeing more work from you![]()
The top scene there with the mountains hits me where I live man. I was doing some painting trying to look at mountains and get the forms right and figure out rendering. There are a few things I notice that make me love this painting.
1. Use of color. Colors are vibrant right on the main focal point, I never noticed that about your stuff before but looking back I can see you used vivid colors where you want the viewer's eye to be drawn. I have no formal art training so if that is something basic I just learned it.
2. Sharpness. The rendering technique you use is to me the thing that makes me frustrated with my own work. I can never seem to get the forms to do what I want, and get the shapes to be sharp like you have. Even when I use solid colors I can't seem to get that effect. Time and practice I guess. Your use of texture and flat color keeps me working to be able to get that definition.
3. Drama. The little details in this painting make me look at my own work and aspire to be better, think differently, etc. The story here, two guys travelling, snowy mountains, ravens, a smoldering campfire, just little stuff all over the painting.
Again I love your work man, it makes me stretch my thinking everytime I see something you post.
Thanks again.
I just wanted to say that I enjoyed watching your sketchbook. It's really beautiful and I think it is really inspiring. I'll be pleased to see more and more of your artwork. Nice job![]()
You're an inspiration! When I slow down, or I'm just not in it, I see your stuff (right now the guardian of the stairway to heaven) and feel the push again. Thanks for your precision and panache.
Man that last enviro is pure magic!
man great work! loving the last enviroment
Thanks for all the comments.
@kingkosatas - you asked on the CHOW side of things about times spent on images (specifically the gate guardian). It depends on the images of course, but usually between 3-6 hours, then I get sick of looking at something. I don't like pixel fucking things too much, I think images lose the life and freshness the more they are tinkered with.
This CA sketchbook has been so nice to reflect upon as I post things from a while back, and see the changes or augmentations to workflow or subject matter approaches that I've gone through. It's hard to get a good idea of all those changes without looking back at a timeline, which this provides.
I think most artists know what they are bad at, but sometimes fail to see what they are good at. I certainly know where my weaknesses lie, and try to work on those particular things (compositional POV variation, draftsmanship, perspective, anatomical accuracy, color transition balance, etc.) However, as long as the personal flavor of the image is conveyed, pushing to be better in other areas becomes the constant challenge rather than the roadblock.
More to come!

Amazing work! Love the lighting and soft/sharp edge variation.

Loose strokes are perfectly fitting detailed parts of the paintings. Can't decide which ones I like the most

Just wanted to tell you that your stuff is what made me take drawing seriously. I've been bouncing from hobby to hobby, looking for something to stick. I almost dropped drawing then, I kid you not, I found your sketchbook and decided that is how I wanted to draw. I'm only at the start, but my goal is to be on-par with your stuff...
Thanks for the inspiration man!
Oh my God you're getting even better... I really like your "Santa" with the rifle !
I'd have a question if you don't mind : when you start sketching a character and you draw the color masses, do you have full opacity and "Transfer" in your brush presets turned on ?

Great stuff man!
I love how you draw all the attention to the face by leaving the body so simplistically rendered. I only wish that I could capture light so simply.
Keep it up.

@ Flame_Unquenchable - you asked about a crowd brush in the EOW environment. It's a brush preset mask that looks like a generic human body, and uses a noise texture to define the different hit of saturation, shape, and value. Regardless of the brush, it still requires I go in and remove the stamping and consistencies... which i didn't in this case because I was tired of making a crowdI made a hybrid out of a couple PS tutorials online. Google search "crowd photoshop brush tutorial" and you'll get a bunch.
@ Vulgar - www.brenoch.blogspot.com and www.brenoch.com is where i post my work.
