    Thanks for the links Ilaekae!!

Here is my idea for Lady in the Box:
it's rather graphic novel and there will be a woman in a box office... boxy enough I hope? I think I need to change the whole thing, but I wanted to post my idea.

And here is a wip for Frankenstein.

@ Dilated: The Doll one is pretty trippy, and John Cotton as a mech inventor looks sweet.

@ Zeitwolf: I like the Frankenstein one very much, maybe add some more stitching or a Y incision to sell the whole made up from dead bodies thing.

@ Queen Gwenevere: All those ideas are golden, my favs are the Tattoo thumbs. Joan Cotton is rad also.

All these are looking great, everyone!

Pierce9 said I should post this one, so here it is . I've been traveling for the last month so while I've got thumbnails for the other 4, I'm gonna be in a mad dash to get them done by the 6th. It will be awesome.

@Mordus: thanks for the cool pictures! Always good to have a nice reference

@Jazz: mighty interesting to see your early annotations and loose sketches!

@Dilated: I like your classic approach and the colour scheme, hope you work a bit more on this!

@Pierce9: I wish I was this good with pencil. Your drawings already have such an atmosphere!

@j.s. sebastian: I don't quite get your Lady in the Box. It's good as a single illustration, but I don't see where this is going as a comic cover

@Sidharth Chaturvedi: amazing colours in your John Cotton cover! It really gives me a 1900-feeling!

Personally I have the biggest problems with John Cotton. American history is dealt with only marginally in history in German schools. I've recently seen a lot about the Civil War on TV, but it's hard for me to keep track of all the details when up until now I only had European history on my harddrive...
I want to make "insecurity" the main theme on my cover, not the thing John does after he was freed from the plantation. Not unlike Sidharth's cover intention.

My ideas for the other four covers are set.

Here are loose 1-min sketches for Tattoo.

Polynesian history is maybe very unknown among normal people, but they were the first real globalised nation. I wanted to connect my cover with the great travel of James Cook with the Endeavour. Maybe now I only make a close-up of a polynesia-esque tattooed face.
Style inspiration: Becky Cloonan and L. Wagner (http://toerning.deviantart.com/gallery/)

PS: yes, I am taking this serious.

@zeitwolf did you feel that way about the bible? becuase that cover sucked ass but it's great reading!!!!! typically i draw the female herian....so i thought about the title for a while and it was broad and yet limited at the same time........then i remember there are prostitues in Amsterdam that are displayed in windows.....and that's what i went with.....sorry......but becuase this is a cover challeng i'm not worried about the story line....if you where around for last one yourealize this challenge is about imagery!

@j.s. sebastian: sorry, I was just trying to be helpful, but, uhm, looking back at my post, I'm afraid I haven't been. When I saw the giant woman behind glass I though she was some blowoff display like King Kong. I didn't know about the prostitutes in Holland, thanks for the info! Sorry, if I was offensive or anything. It wasn't my intention.
btw, if you know any good Bible Comic I'm happy to get your commendations

I'd suggest something a little more extreme than a wall...what's seen cannot be unseen.

Man, these have been looking awesome!! I'm afraid I've been kind of wary of my works lately. I slowed down. Hopefully, even though it'll disqualify me, I can at least finish the Frankenstein one.

Dammit, I didn't organise my time well enough. anyway here's how far I've gotten regrettably. I'm going on holidays tomorrow for 6 days, however if I'm not dead when I come back home I'll pull an all nighter to do the last cover.

I've learnt so much from this activity.

edit: Added my last cover, lacks a lot of finish but I wanted to squeeze in the last one

Yurgh, suppose I should post some progress (gah, it's embarrassing how far I haven't gotten yet...) Tattoo: getting somewhere maybe; Frankenstein: still rough colors, argh; Lady in Box: still need inks, color, but tricky bits figured out now; John Cotton: uh, changed mind about stance and face, kept dress; Amy's Doll: penciled, attempting to ink in a style I don't usually do, having technical difficulties...

(Ink. Is NOT. Supposed to have LUMPS. It really isn't.) (Am trying a fresh bottle tomorrow.)

Sidarth, damn you, you're making me want to scrap everything I've done so far and start over. NOT. HELPING. D:<

Guys, there is some awesome work on display on this challenge! As I said earlier, I had a long trip to Cork last week and another to Manchester this week, so I'm not going to get time to finish out the covers. Here's the mock-up for my Frankenstein cover, but even it isn't quite 100%.

Tattoo. And now for the hard one...

j.s. - I'm honored you'd ask! I don't know how much use I'd be as a mentor right now though, I'm trying to hit a lot more of my compositions through intuition now and not so much planning and tweaking (so there are a lot of failed thumbnails that I don't post ). Get that sketchbook up and running again though, I'd be more than happy to drop in periodically and offer whatever advice I can .

I wanted to thank Ilaekae for putting this challenge up, it was fun and gave me a couple of things to take to a small comic convention and get some pro feedback. I'm pissed that I didn't finish, everyone has some great things going.

EDIT: Five covers done now! Woooooo! I can sleep now!

Yeah yeah, late... but done 'em all! Tried some new stuff on a few of them, tried some creative last-minute salvaging on a few others, it's been fun. (But I kind of wish I hadn't waited till the second week to jump into this. I think I really needed that week.)

(Trying not to look at the myriad little things that are bugging me, 'cause ain't no time to fix them now... And I really should go eat...)

Nice job, everyone. Sorry I haven't been here posting, but I HAVE been following the challenge. My DSL has been shit for the last 7 weeks because of the snow and rain--my phone lines go back to 1658 and apparently they're still using the original equipment. Haven't been able to stay online for more than 2 minutes at a time.

Will post new challenge later today, but won't be able to start capturing for poll until tomorrow--hint hint...in case you need a little bit of time to squeeze one more in...

If access holds as it is now, I'll finally be able to get all three polls up between tonight and Wednesday.

Um, GOOD, because I need a few more hours or a time machine... D:>

Well, I mean, not good about your DSL. Bad DSL. But good for us tardy people...

(Got four up now. It's just this last one I'm still wrangling. Rowr.)
