Alrap: Thank you . To be honest I am not using any special brushes but the PS basic ones; a soft round, and the chalk brush. I find that using photo texture at the end of my work is bringing the picture more to life or more realistic. That previous one with the volcanos is quite sloppy. I will try to make a better one very soon. However I am glad you liked it.

Those landscapes are lovely! I'd like to see more completed illustrations from you![]()
Thanks Tempest-Haze> You are right, most of the stuff I posted are mostly unfinished (which is my BIG failure). Only the very first posts are the most completed ones. I really intend to change that soon...I wish I wasn't such a slow coach cause I tend to get bored with my stuff very quickly.

Back with some more environment from imagination and a bit of photo ref when I was stuck. Use of photo texture as usual for the final touches. I am quite satisfy with the end result although it is still mucky on some area. But since I spent my whole day working on it I think I can call it a day without feeling too bad about it and move one to something else. May be some characters. Hope you like it and if you have some crits or advise for my next enviro to come, I would be glad to hear them.

Hey patram! I see you have been workin steady, well done! I like this landscape, the only thing i keep thinking is i want to see more paint strokes and less merged textures. By getting in painting your texture your going to learn more im not saying dont use photo textures im just saying there is a lot of unresolved sections in these paintings like the last one in the centre middle i cant figure out if its flat or an incline because both planes are half painted on top of each other. My advice would be to paint mountains with snow on them. By doing this you are forced to paint the forms of the mountain as the snow collects on the flats and not on the vertical inclines. I hope this made sense.
Thanks Matty for your advice. I get what you said about the middle cente of the picture. I think I kind of messed it up when I added a final touch of unsharp masque. It looked good though on my screen, until i realised that i created my whole picture on 150dpi, which effectively when slightly blown own you are losing on few details. (Oh by the way it was meant to be flat...aha!) I am going to try what you suggested about snowy mountains and also I will take is easy on the photo texture. I guess it is going to be environment study for a little while. May be I should set a routine. Let's say after 10 environment studies I can attempt one design from imagination based on what I've learnt. Ok...snowy mountains here I come!

Well snowy mountains had to wait. After taking a good look at my previous work I felt I had to rectify few bothering bits.

Here is my first snowy mountain study (not so) quick sketch. It took me a god damn whole hour to complete it. I tend to spend a lot time stroking over previous strokes. I need to get the right method so that every strokes count. Any suggestions??

lol an hour for that? Looks pretty good honestly. I'm slow at painting as well. I tend to get caught up making it look exactly like the photograph or the person when I try to do quick studies.
Try bigger brushes and imply detail more?
My observational skills may be great but i said nothing about my drawing skills

Happy new year 2012!!! I am finally back from my Christmas break and for 10 days I have been slacking a lot. Not much work has been done, but it is a brand new year starting and I have definitely as part of my resolutions the strong desire to go up several gears on my artwork... Anyway, today I will post my last study on snowy mountains (8 more left to do).

here is the snowy mountain quick sketch of the day. Not very happy with the end result but I start understanding a bit more about what to do as I keep practicing.

The mountains are really looking great. keep it up
Wicked work, love the fairy guy!
As an absolutely terrible artist I deeply appreciate you sharing your nitty gritty sketches. Great sketchbook, please continue sharing.
KT Samurai: Thanks for the comments, I am really trying my best to post updates everyday. I am sure that after few month of consistancy improvement is bound to show somewhere!
Mike Buktus: Many thanks. Coming from you is quite something. Your work is so expiring.
Eric Slinger: Thank you. I guess I have no other choice to keep at it because It is still a big struggle. When i thought I was getting into the understanding on how to simplify shape, using bigger strokes, focusing on details until the end...it turns out that my good old bad habbits seem to take over. Watching video tutorials does not always help, so if there is anyo good soul out there who can take the time to explain to me the whole process, it will be much appreciated!
Anyhoo, here is my latest. Very disapointed with the mountain in the right middle ground. adding a bit of photo texture made it even worse by flattening it. Well, at least i can notice where it goes wrong or can I?

landscapes are looking awesome!!! inspired me to paint some wooo!![]()
Great work in here mate. The enviros are looking sweet!
Matty: Cheerz Man for taking the time to post despite your little hassle with your internet. I hope that your garnment studies are going well. I have to check those new updates of yours. I have the idea that may be we could study some stuff in common or try to produce a peace based on the same theme and then compare and talk about our different processes/methods...What d'you think?
GEB: Thank you. To be honest I am not too sure about what I am doing but I guess ... as long as I stay consistant some improvement will emerge...so come back from time to time and let me know if you see a positive change.

I'm back online woooo!!!
I like the idea of studying things in common. I think prob the best way to do it is email each other the reference and we will work on it at the same time then post our results then chat about them. Um at the moment I'm trying to get pictures and designs done so I'm slowing down on the studies to focus more on making designs and finished images. But I will still do studies with you.
What do you think?
man you seem to have a really solid base and a great 3d understanding of stuff.
now you just got to imaginate cool stuff!
keep going!

Thanks Matty. I checked out yours and it looks great too. Yours is very close to the original photo ref.
Kimozabi: thank you man. I have to say I am a bit fed up with the snow mountain theme but doing those studies really helped me to improve. I recommend it. Pick a theme, do 1-10 photo ref studies andfinally, try to design one out of imagination.
....So here is my snow mountain out of imagination. I personally think that it would have worked better as an illutration than it does as a landscape painting.
But I had to call it a day and move one to something else.
