@a la bapsi thanks for the pointer, I still find the entire structure of the face a bit of a mystery. Now stop being a dick and post more screenies.

Centurion, 90m. Misplaced eyes, corner of mouth too low, need to separate shadow/light values properly, etc.

Ah, have another one. Beetle Juice, 45m. Head construction came together a bit easier this time. Cheekbones feel very lopsided, but I think that's a value issue.

@varmint- Im quite far behind on all your screencaps haha but your showing improvement i noticed in the Centurion pic your highlights kind of blend in with the rest of the skin like on his neck and head, but i cant really tell if the skins too light or the highlight too dark. Keep it up man dont slow down

@Ismo- Looking good man the colours look right just the construction needs a bit of work try and work out the silhouette before getting into the details which you seem to be great at by the way

@Forrest_I- Great screenie looks really accurate, if i were to nit pick though the angle of the window in the background is off a little and because its like negative space it really throws off the rest of the pic. Good stuff keep it up

Kojot- Very nice technique man, can you post up the reference images next time so we can see how accurate they are quickly and hopefully everyone can give you some awesome crits

Back from the dead, looking good everyone! Dont forget to drop a crit or two when you post, even if its just your thoughts.

I've been focusing on faces and figures but not from movies just for general studies still kept to 1hr 30 minutes.

Been trying to blend hard and soft brushes, still struggling from keeping the values from being blurry, crits welcome of course

Very first attempt at digital painting. Please forgive the general lack of artistic competence. About an hour and a half.

Also, varmint I am loving the brushes you used on the Pandorum one because, dayum, that looks good. Reminds me of Dan Milligan's style.

Messed around with brushes, inspired by varmint's square brush orientated to stroke direction, and lurve it. Not sure on opacity and softness, but overall feels better to paint with.

    About 90 minutes.

EDIT: Added some colour real quick, and think it looks oodles better for it.

Sweeeeeny Todd. Didn't think about the lighting and everything when I chose it, much harder than expected. About 90 minutes again.

    @ Droid, You've certainly got a likeness!
Those edges look really sharp, maybe smooth out the edges a little so that it
looks more like skin, her right eye (on our left) has floated down and too the left
a bit too much. Also watch your values, you've darkened some areas (her left
eye) too much and lightened others too much as well (her forehead).
You've got the edgesreally spot on though, mine always slant off to the side.
In general the face is a little bit darker in the screenie.

Also those examples in the OP are stunning. I hate drawing environments, so I drew one...

    Ok here my first try.
    I am still a newbie
Lots of mistake I admit. At first was i thought about doing a speed painting but as I go in depth I was going in detail :s
Well since the perspective is a big fail I don't want to spent to much time on it that's why it's not finished.

Nice one Hito_O, 300 is a great movie, and the graphic novel is awesome. I'd say the contrast is higher in the original, and you could have stuck in the glowing eyes of the wolf, but other than that it's looking good.

Here's mine for today, was meant to be a speedpaint but I got carried away with it. Well hello beautiful...

EDIT: Made a quick version with colour, but think I prefer it in black and white.
