Touch Ring Difficult to Use

I'm new to the Intuos 4, it's running on Win7Pro with PS CS3. When I try to use it to change the brush size it works but it's hard to get it to work precisely. It seems to go from a small size to a big size and I have trouble getting something in between. I will move my finger along the ring and nothing happens until I move more and than an increase or decrease that is larger than I want occurs.

It is using the the right and left brackets as the keystrokes. That's correct. I tried changing the speed setting and that doesn't fix it.

The ring is not as precise as just using the bracket keys but the whole idea behind all these buttons is to decrease the use of the keyboard. I'd appreciate any ideas.

I had already read here that I should download the latest drivers, which I did. The version number for the control panel and driver is 6.1.6-7.

I'm a dummy for not mentioning that first.

There was a discussion about the recent drivers causing trouble in CS4 but do not know if this may be affecting CS3 http://www.conceptart.org/forums/sho...d.php?t=201668

It can't hurt to roll back to a previous version.
To do so

Uninstall the recent driver.
REBOOT
Then install the new one. (Do it as administrator just to be sure).

I went back to the previous driver and that fixed the problem. I did notice that between brush size 1-10, the size would go up by increments of 1. Above 10, the smallest increments were 5. Is that the way it's supposed to be?

BTW, those latest drivers are a POS. Not only did the ring work badly, it screwed up the behavior of the brush. It would only draw straight lines whether I used the tablet or my mouse (not the wacom mouse). I rebooted and it still did the same thing. Not until I uninstalled the latest drivers and rebooted did I get normal behavior back. Pretty obvious the wacom driver caused the problem.

I hope to be receiving my first Intuos4 in the mail next week or so (yay finally!). Just for future reference in case I get this problem too, what's the driver version that helped you?

6.1.5-3. It is the release just prior to the last.

After the problems I had and considering others have too, I wouldn't even bother with the current release.

Sounds like it. Seems like the latest driver is bad news for not just the intuos3 then. I don't believe I've updated my drivers but I use older programs so I don't see the need at this time.
