    New years artist resolutions.

So, I thought id set an actual tangible goal for myself this year, something ive not done before beyond "i want to get better" as it comes to my skills in drawing.

In the interrest of actually trying to stick to it, I thought id make it public, and what better way than having an artistic new years resolution, and if anyone wants to put up a goal for themselves the more the merrier, right?

So Here's mine: I will study the human form and show marked improvement in my skills in anatomy and form of the human body by the end of 2011.

Always cool to see resolutions! Me, I'm going to work on form, practice it in the 3D realm (sculpting). I haven't done that, save for 6 years ago. I'm also going to flesh out several characters I made, and work more on environments. AND I'm going to try tackling acrylics again. Now I haven't touched any of the paints (except for white) for almost 11 years.

I'm starting all this now, but that's what I'm planning on doing.

Setting goals in years is laudable, setting goals for your entire life is a greater thing by far.
"Everything must serve the idea. The means used to convey the idea should be the simplest and clear. Just what is required. No extra images. To me this is a universal principle of art. Saying as much as possible with a minimum of means."

Regular studies every day, and actually work towards completing projects instead of getting by with studies (in other words: studies with a purpose).

    -TIME MANAGEMENT!!!
-Continue to learn human anatomy but, this time do it with a purpose/goals instead of just jumping everywhere.
-Learn perspective enough to make/create my own environments.
-To be able to get a decent job (or just a job PERIOD!) so that I don't have to depend on parents.
-Learn to not buy anymore sketchbooks until I fill up the ones I have.
-Update SB daily from now on.
-Learn Graphic Design (as I've been out of it for so long) and digital painting.
-Learn how to paint (especially oils).
-Don't be afraid of messing up/making mistakes anymore.

At the end of November I already set one for myself for this December. It's much more concrete when you start doing it immediately, instead of doing something 'somewhere' next year.

I think I was kind of on a roll doing Hogarth studies, but lost a bit of steam towards the end of November, so I decided to do one drawing for every day of December. Missing a day wasn't a big deal, as long as I would compensate for it on another day. I think I'm 2 or 3 drawings behind, so I still need to get something done this night. But tomorrow is my one day off, so I'll probably be able to catch up a bit. Probably won't be able to draw on the 31st either, so it's going to be tight.

    I'd rather not half-ass it.

Earlier this year I've set the goal for myself get my art in a magazine or something by the end of the year. Got into a pinup calender and ImagineFX (with my blog, which I did NOT send in. They found out themselves).

    For 2011, ...
    - I want to get a full time job, or be a succesfull freelancer. Earn my own money, being able to stand on my own 2 feet without depending on my parents.
    - Get better and kick some professional ass at the end of 2011.
    - Focus and manage my time better, so I can do all the stuff I want to do!
    - Go to the Amsterdam event in feb.

    - To build a portfolio and create some of my best work to go into it (I need this anyway for university interviews so it's a must)

    - To sort myself out and anything thats troubling me so I can get my focus back onto art.

I've already started on some of my resolutions NOW before the year has even begun. 2011 will be a time of great change for me...

There's the standard shit that has always been on my resolutions lists (loose weight, get a girlfriend, etc.,) but mostly this year my main goals are to open myself up to as many new experiences as possible, to essentially recreate my identity (which is already in process,) to always find ways of keeping myself occupied (through productive things - Facebook does NOT count,) create goals and plan ways of achieving those goals for each day, and to maintain a positive attitude in general. I also want to be more financially responsible.

As for art, I don't really have any specific goals, though to strive for all As in school is one, I guess.

I never had a new years resolution before (except last year when I told myself to stop eating candy and such unhealthy shit, which worked).

To stop being a lazy fuckin asshole. Draw every day again, even if I only have time for a quick sketch. And most important of all, to understand the fundamentals of art which I DONT do at all.

I'm going to start painting in oils. It's the easiest medium to work on over a long period of time, whenever I need to start and stop at a moment's notice, for the son or whatever.

I think my #1. resolution will be to get back to the community here. Iv been gone for about 5 months due to life and I feel like its about time to return.

    BTW: I missed you guys

Others maybe eat a bit healthier. not too much.
work out 1nc or twice a week just to not feel so sluggish all the time.
and make sure my SB here stays up to date.

Sort-of art goals: Get a better-paying job so I can save up for art school faster.

Art goals: Update my sketchbook thread regularly... even though I'm the only one who looks at it, I think it would be good for me to get into the habit of uploading something on a regular basis, at least.

Also, figure out digital painting. I really hate it compared to real media, but it's something I have to do if I want to stay on top of technology.

2: want to be good at freelancing, i'm tired of stupid mindnumbing jobs that eats away all my time and energy, i never made ANY money out of my illustrations/art, not even a penny.
3: get in a magazine or something
    4: update more in sketchbook

    1. Quit sweating the small stuff. I can remember crying a lot this year, but I don't remember why so it obviously wasn't as important as it seemed then.
    2. Draw from life everyday or if I get sick of the crap on my desk/can't go to a place with people work for an hour on something I know I'm not good at.
    3. Learn how to paint well in traditional media.
    4. Comment on a piece of art everyday, and it has the be a critique/thorough comment, not just 'cool' or something.
    5. GO BIG OR GO HOOOME!!!!
