    Great update.
    Everything looking ok, the
only thing that I would suggest is that
    you study more anatomy
and try to draw more human figures from
    references.

Loomis head studies... Good job, I doubt I could do them much better without some huge luck (for some reason, those head studies are very hard to me, despite my repeated efforts)

I have great news: on march 28th, 2011 i completely finished my first sketchbook. I have of course used them before this, but this is the first time i've ever had the discipline to stick to a single sketchbook long enough to fill all its pages with stuff. ...Unfortunately i can't upload the last couple drawings in that sketchbook because i forgot it at home... so here's some head/ anatomy (that's right, anatomy!) studies and some drawings from my new sketchbook. Enjoy!

I'm sorry for the bad quality, but the scanner i used is pretty bad.

raminafshari: yeah, i really need to get to work on the anatomy. i've done some but not enough

    DeJakhalz: thanks!

LtPlissken: thanks, i am slowly but surly working anatomy into my studies

Satupeikko : I'm glad you like them, thanks for commenting

shiNIN:...yeah i don't really know what to say about that guy. i drew him (with the screwed up leg) and then decided that he needed to be holding something. I didn't want him to be holding something normal, so I made that random spiky worm thing. thanks for the critique! i thought something was off, but I couldn't put my finger on it

    hi
remember from your head anatomy studies that the back of the head is often bigger and rounder than you think it is...(e.g. the profiles in #68)

Nice studies altho your drawings from imagination seem to ignore all that gud practice, so keep an eye on it. speaking of which watch out for your eyes becoming too wide.

Your style and name remind me of a fellow named Ezeth, who knows it may be you in disguise lol.

    keep up the practice.

Here's the last few pages of my now-finished sketchbook, and finally another digital imagination piece (photoshop CS5 without a wacom tablet)

krysjez: thanks for the crit, that does seem to be a major problem of mine (making the heads too thin/small)

^_^ : i've never heard of Ezeth (do you think he's someone I should look up?), but thanks for the comment!

Hey there! Just wanted to say thanks for popping in my sketchbook. Anyway, I'd say hold off on Photoshop and color, focus on value and line. If you're going to keep doing it anyway, I'd suggest just doing it in B&W, and avoid super soft edges, you want to have a variety of hard, soft, and lost edges. And do these value studies from life, of really basic, matte surface type, white/gray monochrome objects. Photos really mess up what you see when working in value, your darks go pure black, your whites go pure white, and it limits your value range. Other than that, keep up the work and fight the good fight.

Looks like your anatomy's coming along - great head studies! In your drawing from imagination, it seems to me like you're focusing a lot on the smaller details of anatomy rather than the overall form. It might help to try and block in a drawing first, then detail the anatomy.

On holding off on Photoshop - I found that I have to separate my art into "fun" and "study" - so I do anatomy and then mess around in Photoshop. If I didn't do both my head would pop. It's still all learning, there. I would recommend trying to limit your palette when doing stuff in Photoshop, though. I've found working in grayscale then coloring can help there, as well as picking a palette from an old masters painting.

I would suggest that you leave the colors alone for now,
as digital painting is concerned. Do studies only in grayscale to
get more understanding about values, volume, shadows and light.
You can easily turn up to colors after you get the basic training.
Also try to use more elemental shapes, like a ball or box for reference,
and observe how does the light react on them. Try to digital paint that
first and then you should try with more complicated things, like a human
head for example. Rendering a human head is not a simple task.
You are doing good with your graphite pencils. Keep on working
    and success is guaranteed.

Really long time to see, man...
The full body figure in the last pic looks good, it has some flow and the gesture is there... I don't say it's flawless (his lefdt thigh is too short, for example) but it's not bad at all
The only one that jumped at me as a really flawy one is the big hunching-walking guy. His head position is seriously wrong. If you think about where his spine is, you can see it. (I considered the possibility him being hunchbacked, I don't think it alone could explain what I consider a flaw.) I guess you drew it without thinking about its basic structure, spine/ribcage/whatever. I'm a fan of drawing a simplified skeleton thing first because it's very hard to get proportions and positions right without it if someone isn't highly skilled.

...and more sketches. Now we're getting kind of caught up, but I still have like 40 more sketches to upload, and that's not counting my studies...so this will take a while. I am so tempted to simply skip all of the crap I haven't uploaded and go straight to my most current work, but I also think seeing the process of someone grow and develop as an artist is very important. So I will make you all slog through these mediocre sketches until I can finally get to the good stuff! >=D

Keep it up, man. You're gonna be a badass in a few years.

If I could critique one thing, it'd be your line quality. It feels really short and sketchy; try elongating your strokes and really putting some fluidity into your lines. I feel sort of bad giving this critique, because I do the same thing! Haha...

    Take care, and good luck.
