    hit me with crits

    CRITIQUE ME

Hi, I'm RyanRyan. I'm in my mid 20's. I work/study across alot of mediums (animation, graphics, illustration, traditional mediums) but I'm finding myself a jack of all trades, master of none.

I'm pretty much concentrating on anatomy right now, but there should be other stuff thrown in. I'm in this for the long haul.

Your stuff looks good so far, especially for no reference. You seem to have a good balance of studies and imagination pieces. I did notice many of your works were done quick. I'd like to see some studies and/or imagination art that takes you a couple of hours, this will allow us to see your full potential. Keep it up, man, you're doing great!

Great value study up above. Also, your clothing studies are really interesting. Hadn't thought to do those but I just might now.

Hmm...the lighting in #18 is just all over the place really...

You've got backlight rim highlights, and a strong spotlight effect on his face.

Where is the lighting coming from?

If you're interested in that spotlight effect, check out works by Caravaggio or Artemisia (who worked in his style, somewhat differently).

Maybe that will help your imagination.

But for now, work from a reference!

    Good luck

RyanRyan your two desert scapes are great, they have more presence and gesture than your figures, but I think that will come along soon. Good luck, keep up the good work!
It took me like three hours to finish the shading on your upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done.

My sketchbook (it'll get good near the end)

@kiwi there is supposed to be one light coming from slightly below the figure, a secondary/backlight along with some ambient fill light. I'm sure I'll figure it out. In any case I should be doing some master studies any way just because I have never really done any. Thanks!

@Janit cheers! im going to keep plugging away at it

some 90 second figure stuff- going to have to do more of this to get back into the swing of it, it's been about 3 years since I did any life drawing but I can feel it coming back to me
