ok i admit i was intimidated my bnoch's piece of awesomeness so i decided to take it to the opposite direction as much as was humanly possible! i had an idea about a Mucha inspired depiction of the 4 horsemen or in this case women.
conquest and death are almost finished. tell me what you think...

dbed - don't forget that they need to have steeds/things to ride.
artfix - would love to see a bigger version
broken lawnmower - the yellow bg is a bit overpowering. also the highlights are kinda all over the place, makes it rather hard to read.
quinn simoes - nice colours. kinda giger meets heavy metal overall

so of course i procrastinated too much and won't be able to do all four on time. instead i'm gonna focus on pestilence. the bow's gonna be back in the final. have to check the horse's anatomy. c&c welcome!

Any colour really - i usually go for a brown or a reddish brown (if i'm painting in oils on canvas i do the same, never on white). Depends what mood you want your painting in - if you want it a cool colour that works too.. blues/greys etc.

Wow time for detox... Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays

Loads of great work on here since I last looked

Quin simoes: Love the look straight out of a nightmare, reminds me of geiger

Broken lawnmower: Love the render. Something about the horses proportions isn't right though I can't figure out why. I'm struggling with it too so if you see issues with mine feel free to return fire

Reginanegra: I think That's a wicked idea an original take on it

Carnifex: Interesting role reversal wit the heads. I think the rear of your horse needs a bit more work the proportions look a little off

    Jager: Looks great!

Urotskidoji: Pretty sweet idea, though it's looking very flat. I think some contrast could help. Remember object close to you tend to have higher contrast than those further away

Ok well It's been a while and got a bit of time today to work up death a bit. Think I may have bitten off more than I can chew with this one, but hey how else do you improve. Crits more than welcome

geb - the shinyness on the horse is abit overwhelming. make the lines thinner maybe. i like the way the wings go into smoke and how he swings the scythe - very classical feel to it. i think it'll be more apparent that the horse is ethereal when/if you add colour to it.
edit: looking at it again, isn't the horse body abit well small? he's kind of a pony centaur. and the front legs are way to small. they're even shorter than his arms.

Is it necessary for the horsemen to have a steed? Nothing in the rules states that. The steed seems more fitting to the Creature of the Week or an Industrial Design of the Week threads. I was under the impression that the character had to portray one (or more) of the horsemen as a theme...

Yeah I see what you mean, It's a tough one. I've decided get involved in the rendering as I was just fussing about too much. Will sort out the proporting issues soon... I hope

Thanks Carnifex and GEB for the crits. I tried toning down the clouds and some of the highlights (so hopefully its a bit easier to read) but there's still something off about it I think. Also, about the horse's anatomy problems: I see it too, but I don't think I'm going to bother changing it, due to lack of time (also laziness)

    I've also started rendering Conquest

Thought I'd get on with conquest. It's very rough at the mo... obviously... But the idea is to keep with the centaur theme but give this one antlers as I reckon a stag is a pretty kingly animal Im thinking golden ones that from into his crown a bit like king Balor in Hellboy 2...

Changed the composition a bit as I wanted to give him the high ground. I figure the hard works been done and he's picking off the stragglers

Some super cool stuff here already. Here's what I have so far...the horse has caused me no end of troubles, and I'm still not sure about it, but it's better than it was.

Jeremy Colwell neat idea, i'm really diggin' your color choices, i kinda wish there was a little more variation in colors within the figures especially war, not alot maybe just some subtle accents

GEB really cool concept with the centaurs, the death one turned out beautifully, amazing colors! i think the torso on conquest is feeling abit to stretched out vertically, but other wise it's looking good, i'd say keep the crown and maybe simplify the horns abit.

daveneale this great, so goofy! i think the horse is looking great, love those buck teeth, keep it up

DBed interesting take, looking pretty good so far, some of the hands look kinda awkward, try finding some good reference for them.

Broken Lawnmower amazing job on war, really nice and bold! i can't wait to see how conquest turns out!

Sivonja pretty neat so far, i think the horse for famine could benefit from a more dynamic pose.

Urötskidoji i like where you're going with it, definitely agree with GEB on the flatness issue, the way the rider is sitting on the horse looks a little off, try finding some ref for the pose.

    Jager beautiful job! just... wow!

Carnifex i like your concept alot, you've done a great job on the rider, the mounts back seems a bit lacking in muscle structure.

reginanegra really nice so far, the tarot card-esque feel is great.

Quinn Simoes really sick! makes me wanna go watch alien

Artfix great concept and really nice execution! i especially like the rendering on the vulture in the back, reminds me of a Frazetta painting. theres a couple spots where i think things start looking a little too soft or blurry, you can probably fix that up with a couple of hard-edged brush strokes.

i'm too lazy to critique back any further right now, cheers everyone!

Sivonja: Makes perfect sense to me mate, thanks fo rthe crit!

Dranyer: Yeah as soon as I looked at it today I could see it wasn't right am amending it now. Can't wait to colour!

Jeremy Colwell: I like it, some crazy ideas. I think Dranyer's right about the colours though maybe some opposing colours in each one will help. Like if War has green eyes or trim on his armour?
